"Kya, Kasturi? Meine tumse jhoot kab kahaan?" answered Robbie, confused. He rapidly got up from his desk and embraced her, shocked at her tear-streaked and breathless appearance.

"Raunak," she murmured into his shoulder, and suddenly he understood.

"Tumhe kaise bata chala," he asked, shocked.

She showed him the police report which she had found earlier. "Tumne mujhse kahaan kyun nahi, ke Raunak jail se baagh gaya hain."

"Kyun ki mein nahi chahta tha ke tum chinta karo."

"Par ab toh mein zyaada parayshaan hogayi hoon. Robbie..agar woh humse badla le-"

"Bas Kasturi. Aisa sochna bhi mat. Inspector saab ne mujhse kahaan hain ke Raunak ko jaldi pakadh lehnge. Bas zara hoshiar rehna hain. Par tum chinta mat karo. Woh ghar aane ki himmat nahi karenga. Mujhe pura yakeen hain, woh jaldi salaakhon ke peechay honge," he reassured her, holing her tight and gently wiping each new tear.

"Robbie, mujhe dhar lagraha hain..agar phir se.."

"Kasturi, jab mein tumhaare saath hoon, tumhe darne ki bilkool zaroorat nahi hain. Mein tumhaari ifaazat hamesha karoonga. I promise." He clutched her in a gentle embrace; she slowly stopped shaking.

The phone rung, and Kasturi quickly picked it up.

"Hello?"

"Hello, Kasturi, kaisi ho?"

"Robbie, mein sirf ek ghante pehle hi toh gayi thi. Itna zyaada mujhe miss kar rahe the?"

"Mein tumhe har pal miss karta hoon."

"Robbie, kuch kaam nahi hain, kya?"

"Haan .. do minute mein rehearsal karoonga. Socha ke pehle tumhe phone kardu"

"Kaash mein bhi wahaan thi," mused Kasturi. "Bahut waqt se maine tumhare kisis bhi concert ya rehearsals mein nahi

"Acchha, mere paas idea hain. Tum phone par raho, mera gaana suno. Aur phir kaho, kaisa tha."

"Theek hain." Robbie smiled, jogged to the recording studio and gave his phone to Shaina to hold. He picked up the mic, tested it, then began to sing. Kasturi, listening through the phone, smiled as his mellow voice filled her ears.

"Waise tum aaj bahut hi gorgeous lagrahi ho. Priyanka Chopra se bhi zyaada."

Kasturi, dressed in a lemon yellow sari, with a baby pink beaded pallu and a simple diamond set, blushed and smiled.

"Robbie, tum toh John Abraham se bhi zyaada sexy lagrahe ho," she retorted, enjoying teasing him for once, but also slightly embarrassed.

"Oy hoy, meri biwi se itni tareef! Yakeen hi nahi hota."

He glanced out the window and called out to the driver: "Acchha, bhaisaab, yahaan ruko. Chalo, Kasturi."

They got out and Robbie paid the driver.

"Mujhe yahaan kuch nahi nazar aaraha hain. Hum kahaan jaarahe hain?"

He gently placed his hand over her eyes.

"Robbie, yeh tum kya kar rahe ho? Mein kaise chalungi?"

"Mera haath pakad kar." They walked a little way along the pavement, Robbie clutching Kasturi's hand in his right hand, and shielding her eyes with the other.

"Mein aankhen kolsakti hoon? Ajeeb lagraha hain."

"Kasturi, tumhe mujh par bharosa hain?"

"Jee, bilkool."

"Toh phir chinta mat karo .. aur chalo. Tumhe yeh surprise bahut achhaa lagenga. Aankhen mat kolna .. acchha yahaan ruko. Ab tum aankhen kolsakti ho."

Kasturi beamed as she recognised the small "dhaba" wher they had first ate together.

"Tumhe yaad hain, Kasturi, hum pehli baar yahaan khaane aaye the?" inquired Robbie.

"Mujhe sabkuch yaad hain, Robbie. Aur tumhaare aise waise sawaal bhi yaad hain. Uska jawab de de kar mein toh takhgayi thi," replied Kasturi.

"Dil tumpe aagaya tha, isliye mein tumhaare baare mein sab jaana chahte tha. Tumhari saare pasand, naapasand..sabkuch..par sach kahon, tumhe thoda toh acchha laga hota. Tumhaara mann mein mujhe lehkar thoda sa curiosity toh hua hoga, na?"

"Haan .. hua tha. Aakhir tum mere saath itne acchhe the. Aur mere dil ko bhi kuch hua tha. Par.."

"Nahi, Kasturi. Hum koi bhi bhuri baat ka zikar nahi karenge. Aaj raat mein sirf tum aur mein hain, sirf hum dono, aur koi nahi."

"Sir, madam, would you like to order?"

They glanced at each other for a second.

"Gobi ke parathe, bhel puri, chole bature, masala chaat, ek aloo bhajia'aur do lassi!" they chimed simultaneously.

"Theek hain," answered the waiter with a smile.

"Lagta hain sab sogaye," observed Robbie as they crept upstairs.

"Haan, baaton hi baaton mein, chaar genthe kaise guzargaye, bata hi nahi chala," agreed Kasturi.

They quickly changed into their nightclothes. Robbie was still hanging up his clothes when Kasturi got into the bed.

"Aaaaagh!" screamed Kasturi, leaping out of the bed and into Robbie's arms.

"Kya hua," asked Robbie in consternation.

"Woh .. cockroach.." explained Kasturi.

"Kasturi, tumne mujhe dara hi diya," complained Robbie, surprised but relieved.

"Gaya hain?"

"Nahi, abhi tak vahaan hain," lied Robbie, enjoying their tight embrace.

She nestled closer into his arms. "Robbie, mujhe cockroaches se bahut darr lagta hain. Mujhe chor ke mat jaana."

"Theek hain. Hum puri raat aise hi rahenge."

Chapter 42 ~ Bas Tum (english)

"Robbie, why did you lie to me?"

"What, Kasturi? When did I lie to you?" responded Robbie, confused. He rapidly got up from his desk and embraced her, shocked at her tear-streaked and breathless appearance.

"Raunak," she murmured into his shoulder, and suddenly he understood.

"How did you find out?" he asked, shocked.

She showed him the police report which she had found earlier. "Why didn't you tell me that Raunak had escaped from jail."

"Because I din't want you to worry."

"But now I'm even more worried. Robbie..what if he wants revenge fr-"

"Enough, Kasturi. Don't even think like that. The inspector has promised me that Raunak will soon be cuagh. We just have to remain alert. But you don't need to fret. He won't dare to come near you. I am completely certain that he will be behind bars again very soon," he reassured her, holding her tight and gently wiping each new tear.

"Robbie, I'm scared..if again he.."

"Kasturi, when I'm with you, you have no need to fear at all. I will always protect you. I promise." He clutched her in a gentle embrace; she slowly stopped shaking.

"Robbie, I left only an hour ago. Were you missing me that much?"

"Yes .. I have a rehearsl in 2 minutes. I thought I'd phone you before it."

"I wish I was there too," mused Kasturi. "I haven't come to any of your rehearsals for such a long time."

"Ok, I have an idea. You stay on the phone and listen to my song that way. Then you can tell me how it was."

"Then stop worrying .. and come on. You're going to really like the surprise. Don't open your eyes .. alright stop here. Now you can open your eyes."

Kasturi beamed as she recognised the small "dhaba" wher they had first ate together.

"Do you remember, Kasturi, we came to eat here the very first time?" inquired Robbie.

"I remember everything, Robbie. And your topsy-turvy questions too. I got tired answering question after question." replied Kasturi.

"My heart was smitten by you, so I wanted to know everything. All your likes, dislikes .. everything .. but tell me the truth .. it must have felt at least a little bit flattering .. in your heart there must have been at least a little bit of curiosity about me, no?"

"Yes .. there was. After all you were so nice to me. And even my hear felt something. But.."

"No, Kasturi. We won't mention any bad things. Tonight is just about me and you, just us two, and no-one else."

"Sir, madam, would you like to order?"

They glanced at each other for a second.

"Seems like everyone's gone to sleep," observed Robbie as they crept upstairs.

"Yes, chatting away, we didn't even notice how 4 hours flew by," agreed Kasturi.

They quickly changed into their nightclothes. Robbie was still hanging up his clothes when Kasturi got into the bed.

"Aaaaagh!" screamed Kasturi, leaping out of the bed and into Robbie's arms.

"What happened?" asked Robbie in consternation.

"That .. cockroach.." explained Kasturi.

"Kasturi, you scared the life out of me," complained Robbie, surprised but relieved.

"Has it gone?"

"No, it's still there," lied Robbie, enjoying their tight embrace.

She nestled closer into his arms. "Robbie, I'm really scared of cockroaches. Don't leave me and go."

"OK. We'll stay like this all night."
