Chapter 23 ' Mujhe saajan ke ghar jaana hain
"Aap kahaan jaa rahi hain, Kasturi bhabhi? Ab toh sawaal karne ka waqt hain," declared Preet, bounding in front of Kasturi and pulling her towards the group of friends.
"Mujhe koi sawaal nahi karna."
"Woh toh hum jaanta hain. Mera matlab, ab hum sab tumhe aur Robbie sir ko quiz karenga."
"Tum log bhi na. Kya yeh..?" groaned Robbie.
"Nahi nahi. Koi bahaana nahi. Hamare bhi haq banta hain, kuch toh mazaa karne ki," decided Milind.
"Chup chap maanle Robbie," advised Shabd. "Hum sab ki bhi aisi poochtaaj hui thi."
"Theek hain baba. Kya poochna chahte ho?"
"Pehla sawal mera. Tumhari aur Kasturi ki favourite cake kaun si hain?" inquired Milind.
"Jee mera favourite chocolate hain. Aur Kasturi ko sabse zyaada fruitcake pasand hain."
"Right answer, Kasturi bhabhi?"
"Jee bilkool," confirmed Kasturi.
"Theek hain. Toh jab tumhari pehli anniversary hogi, tum kaunsi cake kareedonge?"
"Agar mein kareedoonga, toh ek bhari cake, dehr saari fruit ke saath," answered Robbie.
"Oho very good Robbie jeeju. Correct answer," approved Meher.
"Jee nahi, sir, aapko chocolate cake kareedna chahiye," protested Kasturi.
"Nahi Kasturi, kyun ki tumhari muskaraat ke liye me ek nahi, hazar fruitcake kaasakta hoon."
"Aur tumhari khushi ke liye mein fruitcake khaana bilkool chorsakti hoon."
"Waah! Kya Jodi hain!" praised Gauri.
"Wahi toh. Par iska sahi jawab mein doonghi. Aada cake chocolate, aur adaa fruit ki," divulged Prachi.
"Waah bhabhi perfect solution. Aapne yeh kaise sochliya?"
"Isliye kyun ki mein aur Milind ki har saal yahi ladaayi hoti hain," explained Prachi, giggling.
"Acchha, agla sawal mein poochoongi, Kasturi ko. Robbie ka sabse favourite gaana kaun sa hain?" demanded Meher.
"Chura liya hai tumne, Yaadon Ki Baarat se." Robbie inclined his head, wondering how she had known. "Toh tumhe yeh gaana Robbie ke liye gaana hoga."
"Mein? Sab ke saamne? Nahi, nahi, mein nahi karsakti."
"Kyun Kasturi? Tumhari awaaz bahut hi khoobsurat hain," remarked Robbie.
"Not fair bhabhi. Robbie ke liye gaasakti ho, par hum sab ke liye nahi? Yeh theek baat nahi hain. Chalo, chalo, ab koi bahaana nahi," ordered Preet.
"Please Kasturi bhabhi. Gaaye na," implored Meher.
"Theek hain." She took a deep breath and began to sing, her manner diffident but her voice clear and sweet, her intense eyes fixed upon Robbie's.

Kahin badal na jaana sanam

She came out of her reverie with a start as the others applauded. Robbie's expression was a mixture of enchantment and delight.

"Bahut hi pyaara gaana tha, Kasturi," commended Meher.
"Jee bilkool. Par ab humhe maaf karo, humhe ghar jaana hain, Sumonto ke paas."
"Nahi, nahi, Milind bhaiyya. Koi problem nahi hain. Par Robbie sir se kehdijye."
"Jee zaroor. Ek minute, Prachi."
"Jaldi karo. Acchha Kasturi, chalti hoon. Kal sangeet aur mehndi ki rasam mein milte hain."
"Theek hain. Bye, Prachi."

Devika smiled, observing her son and daughter-in-law. Both were dressed simply but beautifully, Kasturi in a white lengha, Robbie in a plain kurta-pajama of the same colour. Robbie was chatting with a group of close friends, while Kasturi had her palms outstretched as Prachi applied the mehndi.
"Bhoolna mat, Prachi, sabse pehle Robbie ka naam likhdo."
"Jaanti hoon, Devika aunty. Dekho, likhdiya. Khush, Kasturi?"
"Shukriya, Prachi. Bahut khoobsurat hain."
"Abhi toh khatam nahi hua. Dulhan banegi, haath, pedh, mehndi se rangna hain. Aur jitna gehra mehndi ka rang, utna gehra rishta tum dono ke sang."
Each of the women took turns to decorate Kasturi's hands and feet with intricate designs.
"Acchha, sab rasme hogaya? Ab kuch masti hojaaye?" requested Preet.

"Tere maate jhumar tanke
Tere kaanon baali chamke
Hai re, maahi ve
Tere haaton kangna kanke
Tere pairon payal chanke
Hai re, maahi ve
Nainon se bole rabba rabba

Preet and Milind cheered, dragging everyone onto the dance floor. Kasturi danced with Robbie, a mix of improvised bhangra and waltz, both singing along animatedly and laughing in delight. "

A tear materialized in the corner of her eye. "Tumhare liye mein kuch bhi karsakti hoon, Robbie. Kuch bhi."
He wiped away her tear and hugged her. "Mein jaanta hoon, mom."
She smiled, then became businesslike. "Acchha, acchha, bahut hogaya. Aaj tumhari shaadi hain. Tayaar hona hain. Mera beta dulha banega!"

"We know that. I meant, now all of us will quiz you and Robbie."
"You guys..what are you..?" groaned Robbie.
"No, no. No excuses. We have a right to also have some fun," decided Milind.
"Just quietly accept it Robbie," advised Shabd. "All of us had to go through the same interrogation.."
"OK mate. What do you want to ask?"
"First question's mine. What's yours and Kasturi's favourite cake?" inquired Milind.
"Well my favourite is chocolate. And Kasturi likes fruitcake the most."
"Right answer, Kasturi bhabhi?"
"Yes absolutely," confirmed Kasturi.
"Fine. So for your first anniversary, which cake will you buy?"
"I would buy a big cake heaped with fruit," answered Robbie.
"Oho very good Robbie jeeju. Correct answer," approved Meher.
"But no, Robbie sir, you should buy a chocolate cake," protested Kasturi.
"No Kasturi, because for your smile, I can eat not one, but a thousand fruitcakes."
"And for your happiness I would never eat another fruitcake again."
"Waah! What a couple!" praised Gauri.
"So true. But I'll tell you the correct solution to this problem. Half of the cake chocolate, half fruit," divulged Prachi.
"Waah bhabhi perfect solution. How did you think of that?"
"Because every year me and Milind fight over this exact same issue," explained Prachi, giggling.
"OK, I'll ask the next question to Kasturi. What's Robbie's favourite song?" demanded Meher.
"Chura liya hai tumne, from Yaadon Ki Baarat." Robbie inclined his head, wondering how she had known. "So you have to sing this song for Robbie."
"Me? Now? In front of everyone? No, no, I can't do that."
"Why Kasturi? You have such a beautiful voice," remarked Robbie.
"Not fair bhabhi. You can sing for Robbie, but not for us? That's not right. Come, come, no excuses," ordered Preet.
"Please Kasturi bhabhi. Gaaye na," implored Meher.

"Hurry up. OK, Kasturi, I'll leave. See you at the sangeet and mehndi ceremony tomorrow."

i could picture all of it....this part seemed so realistic (all of yur parts do jus this one i felt was sumin more...had sum sort of spark ⭐️) i could imagine all of it happening!!
