“We aren’t that different prerna, at the end of the day, we were both idiots trying to do right for the people we call our own”

^ Loved this concluding line.

The OS is fantastic.

Family

In the three weeks that she had been back from Switzerland, her life had settled into a routine that was, unfamiliar but not unpleasant her days so far had been filled with enjoying the first feeling of motherhood, reading every article on mutism and child care on the internet, avoiding Anurag’s restless pursuit of her, trying to balance being a mother and a student and observing the enigma her husband was.

Observing mind you because understanding was impossible.

She had been shocked to the core on finding her entire family at Bajaj Mansion a week after her return, her mother had hugged her and there had been no judgement in anyone’s eyes she had been so relieved that day and had sobbed for hours in the quiet of night, They had lunch together and Mr Bajaj had played the part of a dutiful son in law extremely well.

No one had told her how this had happened and her husband had refused to tell her what he had done to make them forgive her so quickly. She replayed the conversation in her mind tiredly.

“How” she had questioned him for the tenth time.

“That is for me to know and you to wonder” he had answered in that irritatingly calm voice, that made her feel like a problematic sixteen year old.

“Do I really need to get kidnapped, every time I want to get an answer out of you.”

He had simply rolled his eyes and began talking about kukki’s appointment that had been enough to distract her for the time being.

She had spent an unhealthy amount of time studying her husband, trying to decode him, make sense of his cryptic phrases and after doing it for weeks she had somehow understood Mr Bajaj a little and now looking at him getting ready she knew something was wrong, there was no change in his indifferent and cool aura, but something had gone wrong yesterday and he had spent most of the night fixing it, had only returned home in the early hours of morning and she was sure his jaw hadn’t relaxed in all the time he had been home.

.

“Sneha is going to spend to weekend with your mother right?”

“Yes,something is wrong right?” she had quietly asked as he had sipped his coffee.

“Is it obvious” he asked surprised.

“Only to me,what’s going on”

“You’ll find out soon enough, just find a way to keep kukki distracted for a few days” he looked at before gently adding “trust me on this” please.

“There are piano classes we can enroll her into, would that be a distraction enough.”

“Yes….I suppose.”

****************************************** She signed, this was the third cigar he had lit in the past hour and she couldn’t blame him not after the “wonderful”please note the sarcasm evening it had been, she was grateful her husband thought of everything and made sure kukki wasn’t home because this was mess, a royally f***ed up mess.

She had been on the edge the entire day, the house help had been given a half day on her husband’s orders and since kukki, massi and tanvi weren’t home the silence of the huge mansion had only made her uneasiness worse but she would have preferred the deadly silence to the storm that had taken place afterword.

Her husband was home far earlier than she was used too, he had barely spoke a word to her,and locked himself in his study for a few hours. He had only come out when Massi had entered the house screaming with tanvi walking behind her looking extremely disturbed and angry.

He had looked lethal then, like he had been waiting for this, bidding time to unleash hell. And if Prerna had been worried before she was terrified now. What was going on?

She had soon found out, she had seen her husband attack with the precision of a predator, the composure not slipping even for a second as he cornered the vile women and trapped her in the web of lies she herself had weaved, he had not let a single emotion pass through his face as he had heard her confess how her love and affection had been a lie, how everything she had done was for money and when she felt threatened because of his new marriage she had tried to sell his secrets to his rivals.

She had been rendered immobile as Mr Mehra had come with police to get the mother daughter duo arrested. The woman she had met a few weeks ago and respected had turned out to be a snake she felt cheated and couldn’t really fathom how terrible Mr Bajaj must have felt to be cheated by someone he had put so much trust in.

She signed, looking at the drink in his hand as he stood in their rooms balcony even if it was him, she wasn’t going to let a human suffer alone in the depths of despair his own family had put into, but she had no idea how to comfort him and if she understood him even a little he would misunderstand any form for compassion for pity.

The taste of treachery was far too fresh on his tongue and the fire in the pit of his stomach showed no sign of subsiding “Mr Bajaj” her voice had broken his revive but he hadn’t turned around, he had absolutely no need or desire for her pity.

“Yes”

“Do you want to play chess?” she asked and he had been surprised but agreed anyway, four games of chess later which he had obviously won, he was too exhausted to think about treacheous relatives and he had ignored the small smile on her face before going to bed.

It hadn’t escaped his notice that she had spent the next few weeks trying to keep him as distracted as possible and he was grateful for the small bit of kindness.

On one such night while she had been trying to get him to explain a topic he knew she had by heart he let her, he let her ramble about things both of them had no interest in.

She had been too close while playing chess and he would blame it on the alcohol in his system tomorrow but now he wished for a tiny second that this marriage wasn’t just a sham, an arrangement that suited convenience, he wished she was actually his wife even if for just a moment, it would be so easy to lean in and kiss her to seek comfort without any fear, god he wanted to kiss her once just once instead he had simply traced her jawline with his thumb, relished the quickening of her pulse under his touch before muttering a barely audible but sincere “Thank you”.

“No need, we are family after all” she said, with no hesitation and he believed her.

****************************************** Hope you liked it, make sure to tell me our opinion.

The truth she so desperately wanted to hide is out in open.

I really liked Prerna's outburst on both the men. She needed it and they also should understand her situation.

She is not pregnant. What a brilliant idea to stop the wedding, it would have worked if it is not Bajaj.

Hee told her about Sneha and I like how she wanted to know more about Sneha.

The ending👌

Indeed, they both are the same in their own way.
