Part 7
*Three months later*
Prerna stood in front of the large mirror in their room and gently caressed her slightly swollen belly, she was in the second trimester of her pregnancy. She smiled looking at her reflection in the mirror. She felt like laughing as she recalled the initial days of her fourth month when Kukki had asked them through gestures about Prerna’s baby bump.
*Flashback*
Kukki was playing with her toys in Rishabh and Prerna’s room when she suddenly noticed the baby bump, Rishabh was seated on the couch sipping his coffee and checking a few documents of his project when Kukki walked to Prerna and asked her about the bump. Prerna looked at Rishabh who smirked at her, he knew that she would always get uncomfortable when Kukki asked questions about her pregnancy, she gave him a tight smile and answered her daughter
‘Baccha aapke Papa aapko batayenge…’
Rishabh looked at her in horror
‘Arey… Lekin kukki ne question toh aapko pucha hai. You should answer her na!!’
It was now Prerna’s turn to smirk
‘Kyun?? The Rishabh Bajaj, can’t answer this small question that his daughter has asked??’
Rishabh just glared at her, he knew she was trying to mess with him.
‘Don’t mess with me Prerna!!’
He warned her but she just shrugged her shoulders
‘I am not messing with you.. I am just asking you to answer Kukki’s question! That’s it!!’
‘Fine.. I’ll answer her..’
He placed his cup on the coffee table and walked to the mother daughter duo. He guided them to the bed and made Prerna lie first, he then took Kukki on his lap and gestured her to place her ear on Prerna’s belly.
‘Aapko kuch sunai de raha hai??’
He asked her softly, kukki nodded her head negatively, even Prerna was confused, Rishabh imitated the same action and then looked at Kukki with knotted eyebrows!
‘Lekin mujhe toh sunai diya…’
Kukki frowned at him and gestured him impatiently to explain it to her properly.
‘Accha… place your ear on Mamma’s tummy again…’
She did exactly what he said and then he continued
‘That’s your Baby Brother there!! In your Mamma’s tummy and he is saying that he loves you!!’
Kukki looked at her parents with horrified expressions, she asked in gestures
‘How and why was he in Mamma’s tummy, did she eat him??
Prerna’s eyes popped out at Kukki’s question while Rishabh was having a hard time controlling his laughter! He really enjoyed how Prerna reacted to Kukki’s question. He controlled himself after his wife shot daggers at him with her eyes and explained to their daughter
‘Kukki… you remember I told you that Ganapti Bappa has magically placed your brother in Mamma’s tummy. So that she can protect him till he feels comfortable to come home!’
Kukki nodded her head and Rishabh continued explaining her
‘Toh Abhi your baby brother had started feeling comfortable with us, because he knows that we all love him and we are waiting for him to come home… and because of our love he has started growing in your Mamma’s tummy! Soon he’ll also come home!’
Her father’s words had made Kukki really happy and excited, her baby brother was going to come home soon. Prerna looked at Rishabh in awe, he always knew how to answer Kukki’s questions and explain everything to her with such ease. Rishabh caught her eye and grinned, he winked at her making her blush.
Prerna and Rishabh’s relationship had changed drastically for the last five months, they had become each other’s companion, they would spend hours talking about anything and everything. Also it was not just their relationship that was changing, they were changing themselves too, Prerna was back to that bubbly girl she used to be before all the drama happened in her life whereas Rishabh too started acting his age! He had become more playful and happy. He would tease Prerna or annoy her, and sometimes even flirt with her, seeing this side of her husband would shock Prerna but she also felt happy that he was coming out of the shell in which he had spent majority of his life. She knew that he deserved to smile and be happy, even if it was at the expense of him making fun of her!
Rishabh discussed his business matters with her and Prerna would ask his suggestions while shopping for their Baby! They had decided that they would move out of Basu Bari after Prerna’s delivery to their New Mansion. Rishabh had already booked one and his architect and interior designer were already working on their new House. They had decided that their children would be in the room right next to theirs and there would be a door connecting their rooms. In fact, Prerna wanted their beds to be in the master bedroom itself but Rishabh rejected her idea saying that she wouldn’t get proper rest if the kids were around all the time.

Prerna’s chain of thoughts broke when she felt two arms locked around her waist, she immediately knew that her husband was standing behind her
‘Hmm… kin khayalon main khoi hui hain?’
Rishabh asked softly as he rested his head on her shoulder
‘Kuch nahi… bas aapke kaam finish aane ka intezaar kar rahi thi …’
She said and slowly turned in his arms, Rishabh moved back to create a little space between them. Now that Prerna’s baby bump was developing, he didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable by pulling her in his embrace too tightly. Prerna started fidgeting with his shirts buttons and looked at him innocently. Rishabh immediately knew that his wife was upto something
‘Rishabh…’
She called him out in extra sweet voice, he was now sure she wanted something from him.
‘Aap mere saath shopping pe chalenge??’
Prerna asked him softly, he frowned in response, he hated shopping and she knew it too well.
‘Prerna… you know I hate to go for shopping… and aapko bhi kya zaroorat hai iss halat main shopping pe jane ki..’
‘Iss halat main hun tabhi toh shopping ke liye jana hai… I don’t feel comfortable in sarees anymore, my salwars don’t fit me! My night gowns have started becoming tight…I want to buy new clothes..’
She pouted at him and looked at him expectantly but when he still looked at her disapprovingly, she played her last card
‘Fine.. if you don’t want to come then don’t come.. I’ll go alone only..’
She removed his hands from her waist and took a step ahead, she grinned when he caught her hand and stopped her
‘There’s no chance that I am letting you leave the house alone in such condition..’
Rishabh said sternly but his wife had a smile plastered on her face that made him roll his eyes!!
‘You seriously have to stop blackmailing me like this Prerna... you do this everytime!!’
Prerna’s smile got wider and she went closer to him, she pulled his cheeks really hard
‘That’s because I know you.. aap hamesha meri baaton mein phas jate hain…’
Rishabh frowned at her and shook his head at her antics!

They were roaming in the mall since the last one hour and Prerna had hardly liked anything that was there in the stores. She wasn’t happy with the collection at all. The dresses they saw were either too loud or their colours didn’t appeal to her. There were certain dresses which according to her were ‘overpriced’ Rishabh was losing his patience with all this but he still tried to remain calm for her sake
Finally, there was a shop, almost at the end of the mall where Prerna found some dresses which were comfortable and appealing to her and Rishabh sighed in relief!! He didn’t bother about the bill that he had to pay after his wife’s shopping but when he saw the number of bags that were to be carried back home, his eyes popped out.
‘Prerna.. did you buy the entire store??!’
‘No Rishabh, why would I do that?? I just got dresses that I liked and were comfortable for me!’
‘Really? Just how many dresses did you buy??’
‘Umm.. around 15-20!!’
Rishabh rubbed his forehead with his fingers and muttered under his breath, 15-20 dresses!!!
‘Seems like her pregnancy is driving her crazy!!’
Prerna narrowed her eyes asking him silently what he just said but he shook his head negatively and grabbed the bags, Prerna smiled at him and locked her arms above his left elbow and they walked out of the store. Suddenly Prerna asked him a question
‘Rishabh… if someone saw you like this… holding so many bags, what will happen to your image??’
Rishabh gave her a confused look and she elaborated her sentence
‘I mean.. you are a business tycoon, The Rishabh Bajaj, yet you are carrying so many shopping bags in your hand.. sochiye agar kisi paparazzi ne aapko aise dekh liya aur aapki photos le li toh??’
Rishabh laughed slightly and replied
‘Toh dikhenge dijiye.. I don’t mind getting papped like this!! Along with being a business tycoon, I am also a husband who loves his wife!! And apni biwi ke liye unke shopping bags toh main utha hi sakta hun!!’
He replied casually but his words had made Prerna halt suddenly. She looked at him slightly in shock, initially Rishabh was confused about what happened but then he realised that he had unknowingly confessed his feelings to her. For the first time, he said to her that he loved her!!
‘Prerna.. main…’
He was failing to form a concrete sentence after his slip of tongue while Prerna just kept staring at him. He mentally scolded himself for spoiling her mood. She was so happy after shopping and then his unplanned confession gave her a shock. He was anxious about her next reaction. Prerna slowly unlocked her arms from his and Rishabh shut his eyes in pain. He assumed that she was going to withdraw from him but when she cupped his face, he slowly opened his eyes and looked into hers, he saw tears in them and got worried that he had hurt her. But when he saw her lips curve into a smile, he felt more anxious
‘You.. love.. me??’
Prerna asked softly and with great difficulty Rishabh just nodded his head slightly.
‘You love me??’
She asked again, this time in a little louder and clearer voice. Rishabh nodded once again and suddenly Prerna hugged him tightly. By some miracle Rishabh managed to not let the bags fall from his hand while returning the hug. He felt her tears on his neck. He wanted to console her by rubbing her back but his hands were too full to do that. He merely called her name which made her break the hug. He signalled her to wipe her tears and she did so
‘You really love me??’
‘Yes.. I do..’
He saw Prerna’s smile become wider, she bit her lip and almost dragged him out of the mall towards the parking lot, confusing him.
Rishabh struggled but somehow managed to remove the key from his pocket and unlock the car. She took the bags from him almost dumped all the bags in the backseat, she looked here and there to make sure that they were alone, before he could ask her or react to her actions, Prerna had shocked him by suddenly capturing his lips in a kiss !!
It took Rishabh a second to realise that Prerna was kissing him and unconsciously he had started responding to the kiss himself. He felt her fingers reach his hair and slightly tilt his face lower so that she could get better access to his mouth. Rishabh gently pulled her closer to him, he didn’t want to break the kiss or open his eyes. He thought that he was dreaming about this moment and if he opened his eyes the dream would break. But when he felt the need for some oxygen he broke the kiss and rested his forehead against Prerna’s
‘What just happened!!??’
He tried to catch his breath and calm his heart beat
‘I kissed you… idiot!!’
Prerna replied to him and he looked at her with furrowed brows
‘Why??’
Prerna slapped him hard on his arm and asked angrily
‘What do you mean by why??’
‘Arey... have you lost it?? First you were kissing me and Now you are hitting me !!’
Rishabh spoke while rubbing his arm
‘No… you have lost it!! Since when are you in love with me? Haan?? Why didn’t you tell me before that you love me??’
Rishabh looked at her in shock, she was angry at him for not telling her that he loved her, she wanted to know when he fell in love with her, but the fact was that Rishabh himself didn’t know when he started falling for his wife. He just realised it recently that his feelings for his wife were nothing else but love and he wanted to confess it to her, but he feared her reaction and that’s why he didn’t confess earlier.
Prerna poked his shoulder to get his attention back and repeated her question, he sighed and told her that he honestly didn’t realise himself that he was in love with her
‘I don’t know what love is Prerna.. I’ve never been in love before. I have never cared so much for someone except for Kukki. My life revolved around her, she gave me a reason to live, my daughter became my lifeline and that was the only kind of love that I knew until you came into my life. In the past few months, everything has changed, Kukki is getting better, her vocals may have not improved yet but I can see her becoming confident about herself, I feel happy and alive when I am around you, my daughter feels safe when she is with you, when we are together I feel like my dreams of having a family come true!! I am excited for our future…’
He placed his hand on her swollen belly and looked in her eyes as he continued
‘For this little one to come into our lives and bring more happiness for us!! To complete our family… and you are that string which ties all these beads of my life together.. I don’t know how to explain it to you but I do know what I feel for you Prerna.. I love you!!’
Rishabh shut his eyes and sighed, he felt like a huge weight had been lifted off his chest after sharing whatever was there in heart with Prerna.
Prerna just kept looking at the man in front of her! How did he manage to love her without even realising that he loved her!!?? How could he feel so strongly for her and not let her know about it at all?? She realised that she had started falling for him long ago, the night she slept in his arms for the first time, she felt like that was her happy place, where she felt safe and secure, she knew she loved him when she missed him while he would go to the office for some work, though he would leave for just a few hours, she would be desperate to see him again.
She wanted to confess her love to him but she stopped herself every time because she didn’t know how to tell him that she had fallen in love with him! The man she hated in the beginning for ruining her life had now become the love of her life. But when he confessed to her few minutes ago that he loved her too, her happiness knew no bounds. She blamed it on her hormones but she couldn’t stop herself from kissing him after knowing that he loved her too.
Rishabh opened his eyes and saw that Prerna was still looking at him, there was something in her eyes that he saw today for the first time, it took him a minute to realise that it was love that he saw in her eyes! Did she love him?! He thought to himself and as if Prerna has heard this unasked question of his, she came closer to him once again and cupped his face
‘You can’t define or explain love Rishabh, it’s something that you feel, and I can feel it that you love me! And you know how can I be so sure about it? Because I feel the same for you!! And I know that it’s love’
She whispered against his lips and claimed them once again, this time he consciously responded to her kiss, he knew that he might not be able to express his love to her in words so he wanted to express it to her in that kiss! He pulled her closer to him and started exploring her mouth with his tongue. Prerna let him dominate the kiss and tried to calm her raging emotions and hormones. They broke the kiss as they heard a car honk at a little distance and realised that they were in a public place. Prerna pulled apart from him in a jiffy and sat inside the car without saying a word, Rishabh chuckled at his wife and walked to the driver's seat.
Once he was seated in the car he helped Prerna with her seat belt and noticed the redness on her cheeks.
‘Waah… so now you are blushing Haan?? I wonder where was this blush when you were kissing me so passionately outside the car!!’
Prerna glared at him and smacked his arm
‘Shut up Rishabh… it’s because of the hormones, you said that you love me and I got so happy that I couldn’t stop myself from kissing you!!’
‘Aahh… hormones…’
He looked at her mischievous and leaned closer to her
‘So what do you think we should do to control these ‘hormones’ of yours, I mean you know what happens when people can’t control their hormones right!?’
As soon as Prerna realised the meaning of his words and what he was indicating, she felt her eyes pop out of the socket, Rishabh laughed at her expressions and gave her a chaste kiss before he started driving them back home, while constantly teasing Prerna about her lack of control on her ‘hormones’
Their simple plan of going out for shopping had made this day an extraordinary one in their lives, which would be one of their most memorable days in future!!
