RECAP

After declaring his undying love for Dadi, Mr Mishra is surprised at her rejection. What's happening are the Gods playing a cruel joke or does love really conquer all, and what does Masi have up her sleeve to make Bani leave her home town for the big, bad world or Mumbai, read on to find out.



Bani, Rano and Pia, slowly opened the en-suite door a few inches, (Dadi did not realise that Bani had a master key to every room in the guesthouse on her), they all saw some thing that made them giggle. Nanaji was sitting on bended knee holding a blue velvet box with an antique ring in it and a wonderful bouquet of a dozen red roses on the other. He was wearing his favourite smart suit and trying to avoid the objects being hurled at him by Dadi.

"Even if you were the last man on earth, I wouldn't marry you", shouted Dadi at the top of her voice.


Mr Mishra's shoulder's drooped, but even the objects being thrown at him did not dampen his spirit's, he simply swallowed a lump in his throat and repeated his words, his forehead was becoming damp with sweat and he wiped it with a freshly cleaned handkerchief from his coat's breast pocket.

"Please will you do me the honour of marrying me and becoming my humsafar"

Masi through gritted teeth was holding her laughter back, she turned away but even then the bobbling of her head and a few escaped snigger's could be heard, this seemed to ruffle Dadi's feathers even more and searching around the room for more things to thrown at him, she looked disappointed, their was nothing left.

Masi controlled her laughter and let out a big sigh, counting to 3 she put her hands on her hips and tutted at the figure kneeling on the ground, who quiet scarily was starting to look weak, Masi helped Mr Mishra to his feet, which was quite a feet considering Mr Mishra's arthritic knee's. Masi dusted him down and sat him on the sofa, Looking defeated Mr Mishra put down the ring and flowers, running his handkerchief over his forehead he looked with puppy dog eyes at Dadi, pleading silently for her to change her mind, Dadi knowing full well what he was thinking turned away and crossed her arms, flat out ignoring him.

Masi feeling sorry for him politely asked him to come later on for afternoon tea. Mr Mishra's face lit up. Dadi sneered, spending even a moment in that buffoon's company was too much, but she did not dare disobey Masi. Mr Mishra looked happy again and scooping up the roses and ring, he blew a kiss to Dadi and took a final respectful bow to the women. Which caused a faint cracking sound in his knees, and he then left room.

Pia, Rano and Bani were all leaning on the door so hard that suddenly the door swung open that they all fell like a heap of logs on to the floor. Dadi and Masi rushed forward to pick p there soon to be Bahu. Brushing her down and straitening her hair and clothes. Masi loving stroked some dirt off Bani's face and Bani looked at her puzzled, she looked after her late father until he died which was hard. She ran around in circles chasing her Nanaji, Rano and Pia. she bent over backwards to look after her guest and all the members of the motel staff, mostly ignoring her own needs for the sake of others, BUT why did she feel comfortable in Masi's presence. Why did she feel like she would love to spend fun filled afternoons with Dadi? Both of them were fun loving and full of life, In her dark moments Bani felt like her life was passing her by, but for now she was happy, even then something she couldn't put her finger on, something was most definitely missing. Bani felt that Masi and Dadi were offering a solution to a problem she could not see.

Shaking her head to think straight, Bani asked if Pia and Rano were fine, answering that in the positive they both went to leave the room when Bani cleared her throat ad said,

"So did you fix the problem girls, or should I get Rammu kaka (maintenance man) to clean up after you two".

Masi and Dadi looked puzzled when Pia and Rano turned red with embarrassment, Bani smirked and continued.

"I may be your older Di, magar rishta mein tumhari jaisi hu, Maa hamesha jaan thi hai jab uskai bacche jhoote bol tai hai, if you like Masi and Dadi's company don't lie about the plumbing next time *VARNA*", and laughing she left the room after bending down to get aashirwad from the two older ladies.

Masi smiled to her self and whispered "Beautiful, clever and respectful, at least I don't have to worry about Jai now Bani will keep him on his toes", and let out a roar of laughter.

There's a storm brewing and Bani doesn't know it, some thing amazing is about to happen, something that not in her wildest dreams she ever thought possible, read on to find out.

Masi and Dadi looked puzzled when Pia and Rano turned red with embarrassment, Bani smirked and continued.

"I may be your older Di, magar rishta mein tumhari jaisi hu, Maa hamesha jaan thi hai jab uskai bacche jhoote bol tai hai, if you like Masi and Dadi's company don't lie about the plumbing next time *VARNA*", and laughing she left the room after bending down to get aashirwad from the two older ladies.

Rano and Pia left for college and Masi and Dadi visited the mandhir, Me Mishra waved them off even offering to accompany them, But Dadi's murderous looks put him off. As they, both pushed the glistening ghantee, they both prayed for the same thing, Bani and Jai's happily married life and then went back to the guesthouse, to phone the family, Masi knew that Jai would be at work and mostly everyone else at home, and so speaking on answer phone to the whole group she unveiled the plan. According to her academic file, Bani was an A grade student, a talented girl, in most subjects and a high achiever, just like our Jai quipped Aditya. Masi instructed him to arrange a scholarship through Walia foundation for Bani to a top college in Mumbai. Aditya was to then stay as a businessperson in the guesthouse and offer Bani a room at Walia mansion when her hostel arrangements did not work out (Masi's doing). Masi and tried to describe Bani to the rest of the family, but for the first time in year's were lost for words, putting the phone down only after promising to bring a photo back from their travels, of their perfect Bahu.

Masi, Dadi and the three girls with Nanaji had a whale of a time for the rest of the week, spending the day's and nights laughing joking and having masti filled fun, Bani had never felt so loved before, Dadi and Masi doted on her, she was the apple of Dadi's eye and the centre of Masi's universe. However, with a heavy heart, the day had come arrived that they had all been dreading; it was time for Masi and Dadi to leave.

Pia and Rano helped them pack, both were quietly sniffing away and Dadi did not fail to notice.

"Are soniyo, don't worry Billo has set the plan in motion, Bani will be with us in a few weeks time and you all by the end of next month, we all as one big happy family".

Rano jabbed Pia in the rib's to stop her crying and Pia slapped the back of Rano's head in revenge, both wear at logger heads again when Masi came in,

"Rano, Pia bus karo", and putting up her index finger up, quietened down the feuding pair.

Rani opened her mouth to blame Pia, but when she saw caught the sight of Masi's face, Masi frowned and said mischievously,

" I know you can't bear to be apart from your Di for one moment but just think of it as a working holiday, your Di is going to have a holiday romance and fall in love with a tall dark and handsome man",

"As in are Jai, interrupted Dadi.

Pia and Rano were in a fit of giggles on hearing this description, but the words lifted their heart and hugging their two favourite women in the whole world tight, they set off for college, waving goodbye,

"Billo",

"Yes", said Masi,

"We have promised Pia and Rano, but what about Bani, we haven't seen her all morning."

Masi gave a knowing smile,

"That's because I know were my Bahu is, she will miss us the most, I know her like if she were my own beti, vous mandhir gaye hai".

Packing the rest of their things and putting it in to the waiting taxi, Masi and Dadi made a final trip mandhir, crossing the main street, they heard Bani's lilting voice echo across the empty square, calling everyone to prayer,

The main street started to get crowded; Masi and Dadi had to push past the ever-increasing throng of people but Bani's voice carried on through the crowd,

Bani spotted bani leaning against a pillar at the back of the mandhir, she had silent wet tears running down her face, her voice didn't betray her emotions and she sang the song till the end,

Then all the magnificent ghantees in the mandhir were rung to signify the start of prayers, Dadi passed Masi a pink handkerchief with her initials stitched on from her handbag and Masi gently wiped her tears, this caused Bani to break sown and she held Masi tightly crying,

"Maa, mujhe mat chor ke gaho", choked Bani.

"Beta mujhe jaana tu paare ga, phir mein vapas kaisa a sakti hu", Masi gently laughed.

Bani smiled a little through her tears and playfully hit Masi on the shoulder,

"Aap se kaun batho mein jeet sakta hai".

"Humara Jai", butted in Dadi, with a twinkle in her eye.

Bani was immensely jealous of this Jai Walia, all week Dadi had been dropping not so subtle hints about his likes and dislikes, his work , his family and this hobbies, while Masi gave the impression that Jai was her favourite above all else.

Bani hugged Masi tightly and waved them off from the front porch of the guesthouse, and made a promise that if ever in her life she met this Jai Walia, she will not only give him a piece of her mind for neglecting his family but also tell him how lucky he was to have them.

Little did Bani know that the Walia's had set in motion a series of event's that conspired to do just this, and un-know to the Walia's and even Pia and Rano, even god approved of this meddling.
