Dear Mods,
I have a few questions for you...can you please try to answer them?
----
Before I start, I want to let all distractors know that the reason I had to opt to put this on the open forum is because I do not want to go behind anyone's back and send individual PMs. I have tried to make sense of some things with individual members, and with Mods too. But today I just have to get a few things out of my system.
----
First of all, 👏...I have to applaud the entire Dev team of KS for being such a fantastic group. This forum (and I am not active on others that I visit) has seen many ups and downs and you guys have done a very good job at keeping everything together.
There were times when things were slow, you guys made it fun hanging around. When things are rough, we get bombarded with new rules😉😉...but its all cool.
However, this morning I have doubts and questions. I will try to list them out with as many examples as I can gather and will hope that I get a response after some good deliberation from your side (Haste is waste).
1. I do not understand the quoting rule. I agree it helps reduce spam on FFs (where quoting entire update is no fun). But on dicussion threads, sometimes quoting is necessary. Because you may be involved in an argument with just one person or one part of the post, quoting it for reference helps the discussion.
Also are we to be warned for using quoting?
2. I also oppose to the restriction to name calling. My only argument is for ages I have called JW- Buddha and munna, Bani - munni, Pia -repto. Usually the names are given based on particular charateristics of the characters, and not physical appearance.
For everyone's benefit, I did some meaning finding on dictionary.com
Weasel - a cunning, sneaky person. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/weasel)
Skunk - A person regarded as obnoxious or despicable. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/skunk)
Reptile - a groveling, mean, or despicable person. (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/reptile)
Gainda/ Hippo - unfortunately only references I found were for the animal. It did not apply to humans or "persons". (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hippo http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hippopotamus)
Cobra/ snake - a treacherous person; an insidious enemy.(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/snake)
I do agree that some of these names may not be very appealing to some ardent fans or may even be a result of one's perception of the character and hence not in a good light. Yet there is something called "freedom of speech". I agree internet being such a vast expanse without government, needs regulations. But how can rules that do not allow you to express your thoughts or feelings be useful for a discussion forum?
Based on my findings, I dont find the names given very insulting. Yes maybe for Pia and Tarun, but no one really fights for these so am not going to defend them.
Mods, my dear friends, tell my why this is wrong? And if someone is truly hurt, can they be nice to the other person and make a request, rather than snitching or getting defensive?
Again, if a name is given to a person looks, then by all means please warn the members. I agree with this stand, no human being is to be bashed. But fictional characters, really?😕
3. I agree with the rule that says be direct in what you mean. And I am glad this came up. But frankly, is there a rule for people who always read between the lines and try to find hidden meanings?
I do no want to point fingers at people, and I am guilty of doing this too. But how can that be curbed? How someone reads something is their prerogerative, right? Why should someone who is more proficient with the language be punished for using better language?
Shouldn't the rule be, do not twist someone's comments? Or do not try to imply something without proof?
---
I am discussing only these rules because I find them cumbersome and unfair to a small population on the forum (sometimes considered a majority, but I dont want to argue the perceptions)
Now with this spiel, can I propose some new rules?
1. Mention in your post who you want/ dont want to be a part of the discussion?
2. Do not create repitive topics to discuss the exact same thing? in the last few weeks the exact same thing is being posted in multiple threads: examples -
Jai and Bani chemistry, AD/DDG chemistry, he was so sexy/cute/etc.
and I dont know...
Do we really need so many posts to reiterate the exact same thing? Why dont we just stick to the same post. Its okay to create a new one if there is not one in X number of pages...but the forum looks like garbage can when the exact same topic is on 2-3 threads on the same page.
Mods and Dev Team - Please do not take this as a attack on you. I am an active member on this forum and I love the people here (both who I agree with and those who I don't).
But when fingers are pointed example JB fans dont do this, AD fans should not do this, Jai bashers should stop, Bani bashers should quit doing this...people get defensive. Its basic human nature. And then things turn into "selective listening/reading". Only things appealing to the party interested will be attacked.
Also, what makes it interesting is, like a lot of people have pointed out, things that happen today happened back in the day. Then why all the onslaught of the rules now? Are we trying to protect the interests of a group or the forum on the whole?
Again, my point of this post is to give a common ground for everyone to have a healthy discussion about things that bother them. I have always maintained the stand that I try to remain neutral, but if for some reason you find me biased, come to me. Do not spam this thread.
If you have to add something constructive to what I said, I am sure mods will hear you out.
Mods/Dev Team - I am sorry if I hurt anyone's sentiments. If this thread is found inappropriate close it. If I seem to you to be a troublemaker, ban me (I will consider myself Shaheed Bhagat Singh😉, lost for a good cause).
Thanks,
A troubled and frustrated member of the forum.
