As the song ended, the room was once again brightly lit up.
Bani and Jai jolted apart, finally aware of their surroundings. His hand hesitantly slid of her bare waist, but slowly, brushing against her soft skin, only making her want to get lost in his inviting warmth once again. They looked at each other, one last time, with a hint of both passion, longing and guilt in their eyes after breaking an intimate moment that belonged to them, and only them.
Just then, Pia and Pushkar intruded in their little world of fantasies.
Pushkar: BANIII!!!!!
Bani reluctantly looked away from Jai and set her glistening eyes towards Pushkar. A wide grin spread across her face, making her eyes twinkle.
Bani: Pushy!!!
She screamed and lunged herself forward as Pushkar pulled her into a warm, tight hug.
Jai stood watching, gaping at the site. He felt a pang of pain somewhere in his chest, in his heart. He had never felt this way when Pia had hugged her friends, he always knew Pia was the EXTRA friendy type of girl. But with Bani, everything was different. Everything FELT different.
Bani was so happy to see Pushkar again, they were great friends in college. They were extremely close. She had been too busy fighting her emotions when Pia had royally announced the entry of their old friend by screeching and leaving Jai to dance with her. Pia and Pushkar were also great friends in college. They had shared a beautiful and strange relationship. Pia and Pushkar always hung out with each other, they laughed and cried together, they shared their innermost joys and pains with each other. Pushkar knew Pia like nobody knew her, not even Bani. And Pia had always known that Pushkar had a crush on Bani, though Bani had never really thought of him in that way. Pia knew that Pushkar would always remain her best friend and only her best friend, since he had been they playboy of the college and had a new girlfriend every week. He always fell back on Pia, his most loyal friend, the person whom he confided the most in. That was their relationship, though neither had truly spoken what their hearts urged them to. Bani Pushkar also had their moments, they were always there for each other and cared for each other unconditionally.
Pushkar: Bani, how have you been?! OMG, I missed you so much!
Bani: ME?! What about YOU? Na call, na e-mail, kya yaar?
Pushkar (winking): So… you missed me?
Bani stuck out her tongue.
Bani: Nope.
Pushkar: Not even a teeny tiny bit bunny darling?
Gosh, what kind of pet name is THAT, Jai thought, observing with narrow eyes.
Bani: Okay baba, maybe a liiiiittle bit.
Pushkar chuckled, his laugh soft and sexii. He did look pretty handsome in his black suit(but not as sexi as our cuddles of course!).
Pushkar: I've been great yaar. Mein jis company mein kaam karta hoon, mujhe mt. Abu se yaha shift kardi hai. So yes, I'm going to be here for a while.
Bani squealed in delight.
Pia smiled. Her eyes brimmed with tears seeing Bani so happy. This girl had to bear enough sorrows in her life. Pia was glad that Bani was finally getting the happiness she deserved. And she was very happy that Pushkar had come to Mumbai. She wanted him to stay here, with them… with her. Pia excused herself from the small group, hiding her tears of joy…and sorrow.
Pushkar: Ok, mujhe chodo. How have you been Bani, has everything worked out?
Pushkar spoke in a serious concern tone, his eyebrows furried in worry.
Bani(with a small smile on her face): Yes, Pushkar, sab kuch thik hai. Thanks to Pia di, meri zindagi mujhe wapaas mil gaya.
Jai's curiosity grew. What was she talking about?
Pushkar pulled Bani into another quick, but tight hug.
Pushkar: If you ever need anything, I'm here for you. You know how much I luv u Bunny, rite?
Bani smiled and held on to Pushy.
Bani: Nope, can u plz remind me?
Pushkar: WELL, I luv u--
Pushy and Bani together: more that all the stars in the sky!
They broke out into subtle laughter as Jai watched them closely. He felt he had been stabbed in the heart hearing the word LUV. Silently, he wept inside, tears not daring to flow from his eyes, but rather his soul.
Pia came back to the group wearing a sheepish grin. She was tired of all the partying, of all the fake smiling and sweet words she really didn't mean. She just wanted to go to bed. Jai's arm slid to her waist and held her close to him. His grip was firm, almost angry and possesive.
Jai (eyes narrow and voice husky) : Pia darling, where did u go? I missed so much, luv.
He smirked and trailed his finger across her face.
Bani watched intently, keeping to herself.
Pia: woh…woh mein washroom gayi thi.
Jai's grip got stronger. Pia resisted to his touch.
Pia: Jai, I'm very tired. I think we should end the party now.
Jai: mmm, but darling, I haven't got enuff of you yet.
Do they HAVE to flirt so damn OPENLY, bani thought.
Pushkar:woah mr.walia, let's not get ahead of ourselves here.
Jai's eyes tore away from a hesistant Pia and moved to Pushkar. They held a glint of anger in them, subtle yet dangerous.
Jai: Pushkar, I suggest you stop telling me what to do and what not to do with MY fiance. I think I am old enuff to make my own decisions about romancing my wife-to-be.
Pia: Jai, stop it. What's wrong with you?
Jai looked at Pia apologetically. He knew he was playing with her, and that made him feel guilty. He softened his grip and let Pia go.
Jai: Sorry honey. Why dun I make up by taking you to dinner tomorrow night?
He asked huskily, with a sexii smile spread across his face.
Pia sighed. She gave in to his charm and smiled.
Pia: Sure, baby.
Pushkar: Hmm… I have an idea!
Jai: and what would that be mr. PUSHY?
Pushkar: Well, I was thinking that maybe we could double date.
Pia: Double date?
Pushkar: Yeah, wat say Bani, wanna go out with me?
Bani: Sure!
Pia: Double date it is!
