Part 6. Jai walked into his room, took off his scarf and jacket, rolled up his sleeves and glanced at his watch,
"Eleven already? Now where is my beautiful wife...she's not downstairs." He looked around and saw her stretched out on the couch, asleep. He was amazed at how beautiful she looked even in her sleep, the plain baby pink sari just adding to her beauty. He carefully lifted her feet, sat down and placed them on his lap.
Jai, whispering softly: "Baniiii..."
She stirred a little. He ran his finger slowly down her left foot, making her eyes fly open.
Bani: "Hmmm Jaiiii..."
Jai: "Hey sleepy head!"
Bani: "I fell asleep waiting for you. Why are you so late?"
Jai, complaining: "I just came home from a hard day's work and what do I get? No hug, no kiss...nothing!"
Bani, calling him with her index finger: "Awww you poor thing...come here"
He obeyed and she placed a light kiss on his lips.
Jai, still leaning on her: "Now that's much better! If you must know why I'm so late it's because I've completed all my work...so I won't have to leave early in the morning."
He leaned in for another kiss....
Bani: "Jai I have something important to discuss with you."
Jai: "Can't it wait?"
Bani: "No Jai, it's very important."
Jai, sitting up: "Ok...what's so important?"
Bani: "Jai, Jigyaasa told me that you have handed over your business and this house to her. She was saying something about me knowing everything and..."
Jai, cutting her off: "What? Why would I do such a thing?"
Knock Knock!!
Jai, angrily: "Who the hell is it at this hour?"
Bani got up and opened the door. "Ranveer...?"
Ranveer: "Mamiji I need to talk to you and Mamaji about something very important."
Bani: "Come in."
Jai: "What is it Ranveer?"
Ranveer: "Mamaji..."
Ranveer tells Jai everything...how they made a plan to rob him, how he got him (Jai) to sign those papers through Rano, Bani coming to know of this and filing for divorce with 50% alimony, Him(Ranveer) realizing his mistake after Bani's injury etc. etc. etc.
Ranveer: "Mamiji, Mamaji I know what ever I have done is unjustifiable and I'm not worth being forgiven, but still please forgive me. I am not like that anymore...I trusted Mom blindly, and did not think for myself. I'm sorry."
"Ranveer...It is enough for me that you have realized your mistake and you are now atoning," Bani put her hand on Ranveer's shoulder and said, then turning to face Jai, "Jai isse maaf kejiye."
Jai just stood there staring blankly at them. He couldn't believe it.
Betrayal! Itna bada dhoka? My own family, my own flesh and blood has betrayed me...so badly. If she wanted money why didn't she just ask? He was livid now...he felt like a raging bull, ready to charge. Without saying a word to either of them he burst out the door.
"Jigyaaassaa!!" he shouted.
Bani was terrified to see him react like this, but how else could he react? Being betrayed by your own sister was certainly something she never wanted to experience.
"Jigyaasa...Come here right now!!"
Bani walked out of the room with Ranveer behind her. She went up to him, gingerly took his hand in hers and said softly, "Jai, don't do anything you will regret."
He squeezed her hand slightly and let go as he saw the object of his anger approaching them.
Jigyaasa, as sweetly and calmly as ever: "Jai Bhaiya, what's the matter? Why are you screaming?"
Jai, trying his best not to slap the living daylight out of her: "You snake! Do you really want me to answer that?"
Jigyaasa: "Jai Bhaiya..."
Jai: "SHUT UP! If you wanted money why didn't you ask for it? Why this betrayal, Jigyaasa, why?"
By this time the whole house was awake and had gathered there, curious to know what the commotion was about.
Jai: "Answer me, why did you do it?"
Jigyaasa bent her head in shame. She didn't know what to say...she couldn't bring herself to face her brother.
Mausi: "Jai Beta...what is going on?"
Jai: "Mausi...ask your niece."
Mausi: "Jigyaasa...?"
It was Ranveer who broke the silence. He repeated everything he told Jai and Bani.
Saahil: "Mom, why did you do this? Mamaji is your brother; didn't you think for once how this would affect all of us? I am embarrassed to call you my Mother!"
He gave her a disgusted look and walked off to his room with Rano in tow. Aditya, Dadi, Raashi and Ranveer headed for their rooms also.
"Jai beta, it's good that you found out...I was aware of Jigyaasa's evil intentions but couldn't tell you anything because I was bound by Bani's kasamh," Mausi said before following the others.
Jai took Bani's hand and led her away to their room leaving Jigyaasa standing all alone. She felt scared and embarrassed.
"Why this betrayal, Jigyaasa, why?" This one question was going to haunt her for the rest of her life.(😈😈😈)
