Chapter 9
"Mr. Kapoor, it's a miracle. I have never known a case, where a child has such a nasty fall on her head and recovers from it without any repercussions." The smiling doctor turned to Aaliya, who they wanted to keep a day longer for observation, "No more climbing tress for you young lady. You gave your parents and all of us quite a scare," the doctor said giving Gauri a knowing look.
"Thank you so much doctor for everything," Shiv said as he stepped out of his daughter's room along with the doctor.
"Please, in this case, putting my ego aside I must say that it truly was a miracle. Mr. Kapoor your daughter must have a guardian angel watching her like a hawk because her recovery is nothing short of a miracle."
Shiv smiled at the doctor's parting words and mouthing a silent thank you to his daughter's guardian angel, Shiv stepped into his daughter's room, which was now crowded by the numerous members of both Gauri and his family.
Ever since Aaliya's accident, Gauri watched the children like a hawk. She even took a few days off from work so that she could spend more time with them. They were her reason for living and she could not afford another accident like the last one.
Shiv, too, worked normal hours now. He made sure that he was there to see his children off to school in the mornings and he was there to tuck his children in at night.
The children were more than ecstatic with all the attention they were receiving, especially from their parents but they noticed that the strain in their parents' relationship still remained. The children were not the only ones who noticed. The rest of the family was happy to have Shiv around but things were even more awkward than before because now they were further exposed to the tension between the couple.
One day, while she was helping her grandmother pull out peas from their pods, Aaliya turned to her grandmother and asked, "Badi Dadi aren't husbands and wives supposed to like each other?"
Her grandmother replied distractedly, "Of course they are beta."
"And if you like each other than you talk to each other right?"
"Of course"
"Then how come Choti ma and papa never talk? They are husband and wife too, so they are supposed to like each other right?"
At that moment Vivan, who was listening to their conversation from a distance, came and sat down beside his grandmother. He pulled his niece into his lap and said, "Of course they like each other. They are just to scared to admit it."
"Huh???" replied a confused Aaliya.
Vivan pulled his niece closer and patiently replied, "They really like each other but they are too shy to tell each other that."
Aaliya was silent for a while and suddenly jumping off her uncle's lap she said, "Then I guess we'll just have to tell it for them."
Dadi shook her head and said, "Its not that easy sweetheart. Adults are complicated."
But Aaliya already began heading towards her parents' room saying, "Don't worry Badi Dadi I have a plan." Both Dadi and Vivan gave the beaming little girl curious looks and Vivan ran after her demanding, "Aaliya what's the plan? Maybe I can help."
