Chapter 10
"You have understood what to do right chachu?"
"Yes you little brat I know what to do." Vivan shook his head at his niece's receding back and turning to his uncle he said, "I am telling you bade papa, the times have changed. Instead of the nieces and nephews learning from their uncle, the uncle is learning from the niece and nephew."
A grinning Mahen looked up from the paper he was reading and told his nephew, "Unfortunately for you though the changing times have skipped a generation and you still have a lot left to learn from me."
Giving his uncle a sheepish look, Vivan left to begin putting his six year old niece's diabolical plan to work.
"Mama… please Mama, I really need that book. It's for a school project." Aaliya whined from below.
Gauri gave her daughter an exasperated look from the top of the ladder and said, "Aaliya, I am trying. I just can't reach it."
With a victorious smile, Aaliya quickly replied, "let me get Papa. He is tall, he'll get it." Before Gauri could reply to that, Aaliya had already dashed out of the attic.
Shiv protested as his daughter dragged him towards the attic, "But Aaliya can't you ask Vivan chachu or Raghu Kaka to get it. I have work sweetheart."
Aaliya turned to her father pouting, her big, brown eyes giving him a sad look, "Papa you are always busy. I really need that book and I can't find anyone else, can't you help this once?"
Shiv immediately felt guilty for behaving so selfishly with his little girl. He picked her up in his arms and said, "Okay chalo lets get your book. How did it get so high up that you can't reach it anyway?"
Aaliya smiled mysteriously, silently thanking her Vivan chachu for his help, she turned to her father and said innocently, "I have no idea papa."
Shiv frowned at her daughter, something strange was going on here but before he could figure out what, Aaliya jumped out of his arms and pushed him towards the attic, "Papa I think Dadi is calling me, you go in there and get it. It's on the top shelf…"
"But Aaliya what is the book called?" Shiv asked his daughter's retreating back.
"Ask mama she knows."
"Mama?" Shiv questioned but before he got his answer, he felt the door to the attic shut and heard a clicking sound. Shiv ran to the door and squeezed the handle but it was too late, the door was locked.
Suddenly a voice from behind him said, "So she locked us both in huh?"
