Somewhere in the 60's is around break-up I think... As @bookworm pointed out earlier, the story really takes off after now...
Would love to hear your thoughts as you see through this phase... At least these episodes are worth talking about than our once-lovely home show...

Let us talk about what you have seen so far. Shifting to laptop in a bit. Be back

I saw the show a while back. My recent disappointments with our home show, especially because there are many similarities between them made me want to re-watch many of the episodes. So the impressions are fresh once again...
Our home show has the advantage of two excellent actors who excelled at appearing so natural in their interactions till the 80s to 90s. Even if they were not passionate, their glances and connection, the therav in their scenes made them great. Not to mention the lovely flow and growth in their relationship. They were also two admirable and honourable individuals we could root for..so much of that has been squandered away unfortunately..

KYY on the other hand actually started with raw lead actors and they were made to exaggerate their traits in the initial episodes which combined with the college backdrop made it a little difficult for us to appreciate initially. Now when I go back, I can appreciate even the initial ones because the storyline was never bad..

Some thoughts -

- It is from the Diwali episode onwards that I really started liking Manik and Nandini. From here on they could easily pass off for a couple in their 20s. Same for the rest.
-Cabir is excellent in the Diwali episodes - his break up related scenes
-I like how the makers use the contemporary setting and the age of the characters to show budding romantic relationships that are not immediately named, that are spontaneous..
-Looking back, Manan's Diwali makeout scene along with the music is quite hot. Even better is how they use it to show the changed equation. Manik ordering Nandini to meet him in a classroom next day and Nandini understanding his intentions and refusing quite nonchalantly without acting like a prude...as we go along we realize that in all these little little ways Nandini asserts herself and drives Manik mad who is simply captivated by her!!
-Musicana night is excellent. A great turning point for this coming of age story
-Nandini is amazing from here on, the way she handles the break up. She cries and cries but gathers herself and even tries ti shame Manik (she does not know initially why he did it)
-I loved how the makers managed to make us feel for both of them. Manik breaks up with her but is never callous. He is unable to break up, after break up, cannot leave her alone. Not stalking but watching out for her, her feelings. The tension between them, the yearning (from Manik's end), Manik relentlessly pursuing her like a man once the truth is out is all a treat
-I love the episode in the jungle - I will not reveal too much as Malvika has to watch it
-I really like how they linked everyone's stories. Dhruv/Alia, Manik/Nandini, Cabir..The never have a I ever game brings out this complicated situation quite well
-Cabir's scenes with Manik and Manik and Nandini . Arch, you already described them well
-One more aspect to admire - It is not easy to keep bringing in freshness into the looks and touches but they do it. The makers and actors both. They also keep upping the intimacy levels, their body language in line with the stage of the relationship
-They also have the characters behaving and acting just the way we would expect in a given situation/ Just for the same of drama/twist they do not alter the emotions you would logically expect the characters to experience. When will our makers learn that it is useless trying to "surprise" the audience by making the characters behave in a way the would not/should not. it just frustrates the viewers. It is far more satisfactory for them to demonstrate the expected emotions. They just have to work on making it interesting for the viewers with the dialogues, acting, story etc.

Love both your replies Arch and bookworm. Now ill notice all these subtle things even more. Currently, I love how they are handling the gay track. Cabir's character has so many shades. His yearning to be with the person he loves like a normal couple is quite endearing to watch. The way he clings to his friends and mom, when they aren't aware but hewants that sense of security that nothing will change, so aptly potrayed. I really like the actor. He does a fine job. I loved Manik's reaction when he confronted Cabir and how when he needed someone he ended up at Nandini's doorstep.
How long is Harshad gonna stick around? He has a back story but I have my reservations about him. What exactly happened between Mukti and him? Intriguing.

You have captured everything... The flow & growth both in the storyline & the characterization is beautiful...

Yes, the initial episodes are raw, too cutsie for my liking and I think they couldn't figure out what look will go best on Manik. His initial hairstyles are horrible... But they soon got their footing - the makers & the actors.

You touched on this - Nandini in her young, idealistic, never lie attitude asserts herself every time Manik tries to push her - first in the fab 5 tashan, then in his unnamed attraction and each time she puts him straight, think he falls for her a bit more.
I loved it when she says, 'let's go slow. Let's be friends'. His anger was so justified & cute at the same time. I could actually feel his frustration when he describes it to Cabir. 'This woman blows hot and then very cold. So he's playing along or rather being played along. But he has no other option' ... totally loved this. She is not being a prude but sticking to her ideals and he doesn't care about ideals but can't deny nandini... It's a typical case of opposites attract.

But all through she is strong in her self respect & doesn't give in or push herself on him. She holds her own and this both drives him mad & makes him fall in love.

I absolutely loved the jungle scene you refer to. Here is a woman confident in her skin (even though innocent in many ways) but she knew how to get the truth out...
She cried n cried after break up but didn't give up even for a second. First for her self-respect - her anger was justified but seeing manik's reactions, she knew there was more to the story...
It's like she believed she was played with but never fully trusted that. Same as Manik broke up but never fully let her go...
And loved manik pursuing her and smiled when he says, 'so can we go back to being how we were before the dhruv situation' and Nandini says, 'No'... The girl has spine.

Yes, they took advantage of the age of the characters to bring out innocence & the newness of relationships... But it is relatable when the characters are 17/19 years old. Very difficult to digest the innocence & immaturity when characters are close to 30 as in our home show... Now I can only imagine and feel sorry that 2 fantastic actors could not be utilised better (home show)...

Many situations in both shows are similar but this one handled the process & outcomes much better. That one just took the viewers for granted unfortunately!!!

Yes, absolutely loved Cabir around the Diwali episodes... The actor is a natural.
And I hv said this already but Cabir as a Friend is fantastic. He can read his friends and just be honest. Something we all need from time to time.

One thing I noticed is the actors actually look better as the episodes progress instead of looking unkempt. Attention to appearances keeps it all visually pleasing. Unlike our home show where we are all still waiting for that infamous haircut... 😃

Didn't like the Soha angle and thought the makers took the easy way out by introducing Abhimanyu & Soha who played catalyst - one knowingly and the other psychotically unknowingly... But good thing was that the leads equation & feelings grew and solidified so I took the Soha angle in stride...

Oh! And one unique thing that I loved - the way the leads take a 'break' from their tashan or fight to just be themselves for a short while before going back to the fights. They speak honestly in the 'break' that actually gives each an insight into the other. They revert back to their fights but the breaks work as a breather...loved it...

Ah yes! I think the makers excelled with portraying Cabir... The yearning and faith of the young guy to be a normal couple just because you are in love and the fear and cynicism of Raghav who has seen the sad part of life are shown well...

Loved how Manik ends up at nandini's doorstep too - reminded me of a certain Mr. Obhodro who landed up at the girl's doorstep just to talk... Oh! Missed opportunities there!!

In fact I thought for a tv show this was very well done. They do not paint them with the broad brush of a gay relationship. We get a glimpse of how Cabir and Raghav are when in love.

The way he clings to his friends and mom, when they aren't aware but hewants that sense of security that nothing will change, so aptly potrayed. I really like the actor. He does a fine job.

This was done well. They both looked great in that scene, aesthetically so pleasing too. Nandini does not immediately come down (love that about her, she does not come running just because he calls), no words spoken but the lovely hug and amazing soundtrack

How long is Harshad gonna stick around? He has a back story but I have my reservations about him. What exactly happened between Mukti and him? Intriguing.

They wasted Harshad by making him almost black. A grey Harshad in my view would have been much better. He keeps coming and going.

Exactly. They do not stop showing us what is so attractive/compelling about Nandini or for what matter even Manik once they are done with the falling in attraction phase. Like Cabir says - each time I think this girl cannot impress me more, she does just that..

Till the very end they keep unveiling new aspects of their characters, the way they react, behave when in love that we as viewers fall in love with them more and of course Manik and Nandini with each other. They don't make us hate them through the phases when they are not together. They don't use the easy way out by making one behave badly but work hard to bring out the complexities in relationships as the cause for problems...

I absolutely loved the jungle scene you refer to. Here is a woman confident in her skin (even though innocent in many ways) but she knew how to get the truth out...

True. Everyone observes their behavior in fact and finds it different. Like Cabir says - you cant get up one day and decide to not be in love.

Speaking of Cabir, how adorable is all his teasing of Manik and Nandini? They did a great job of making the post break up episodes enjoyable this way..

And loved manik pursuing her and smiled when he says, 'so can we go back to being how we were before the dhruv situation' and Nandini says, 'No'... The girl has spine.

She truly does. She is so dignified, but never preachy and prudish. She does not lose herself in this relationship, neither of them do ..

Yes, they took advantage of the age of the characters to bring out innocence & the newness of relationships... But it is relatable when the characters are 17/19 years old. True! I cannot figure out why such a good looking male like Shaheer is being made to look so unkempt!

Didn't like the Soha angle and thought the makers took the easy way out by introducing Abhimanyu & Soha who played catalyst - one knowingly and the other psychotically unknowingly... But good thing was that the leads equation & feelings grew and solidified so I took the Soha angle in stride...

From here on they have some silly tracks but I just took them in my stride because the equations of the friends and Manan is what I focused on and those were handled well. After episode 200, some episodes are bad as they had some issues with the production house. They can again be seen from Nandini's birthday onwards...

Oh! And one unique thing that I loved - the way the leads take a 'break' from their tashan or fight to just be themselves for a short while before going back to the fights. They speak honestly in the 'break' that actually gives each an insight into the other. They revert back to their fights but the breaks work as a breather...loved it...

They used several such plot devices to make the lead couple interact even during break up and to give the audience their dose of touchy scenes. :)

Btw one of my favourite of the passionate scenes is the saibo music one when they struggle on the bed..so well done..including the aftermath...

Difference -- KYY gave an enjoyable, heart breaking yet kinda funny post breakup track whereas we got entirely opposite on your home show. Chalo lemme dream about killing ish and gkb :D

That is true. KYY handled the break up tracks well. They also did a good job with the characterization of the couple when in love. Most shows falter in these two departments as did our home show.
