Amen. Life's all about choices. The point is the choice should stem from what makes you happy and not obligations.
And here we have Manik who has never lived for himself , he has written off his desires, his wants because for him living has been for his friends till now. He is the guy who will self-destruct for his friends. He is that passionate and that emotionally invested , because they were the only things that kept him sane at his dark moments. This unflinching loyalty is part of his characteristic and stands true for his all relationships . It is his trait . Now with Nandini , a part of it has shifted , she has become such a major part of his life , rather she is his life at this point , because he is living "self" moments with her-so she becomes the top priority by just the fact that she is part of his self now. Here's the conflict.
Spot on my genie in a bottle. He has to cope with his equilibrium thrown off balance. The quite little plateau that he was on is now shaken and crumbling.
Right now for him his affections for fab5 and Nandini seem to be mutually exclusive but in his heart he has already prioritized her because it's not even about giving her the top spot. it's what she makes him do which has sought of made her part of his being. She makes him think of himself- something which he has never done. Here's the thing why he is struggles with accepting that she is above fab5 because saying that will mean he is putting his own self above fab5, which breeds guilt for the friend that he is.
Couldn't have put it better myself. EXACLTY. For first time it's about what makes him happy. Not about saving his friends or being their support.
He needs to find the balance because without it he will self-destruct, but balance again is a fluid abstract , under a threat, situation or an event where the choice has to be made without any option , we do take sides, it's human nature to do so. What is essential is how Manik learns to approach such situations. He cannot throw away a deal for Nandini's sake without informing or consulting fab5. They take his word for finality but he needs to keep reiterating the group consensus too for the growth. He can make her his top priority and still be loyal to his friends, he needs to learn that.
He should. That's his journey. Actually Nandini is similar , just that she is tactful and is rarely impulsive makes it easier for her to control her extremities . She doesn't give up on people , very rarely thinks of herself and is loyal to the fault. But what separates them is her sensitivity.
Life is all about change, we will always keep shifting the priority list for some it will be the lover, then few years down the line it will be their children and henceforth , I don't think there is anything wrong with slotting people or changing the order, just as long as one is sensitive and doesn't take others on the list for granted, balance or no balance - things could be lot smoother .
