Part 1

The scene starts w/ the Sharmas shocked @ the reaction of the public to the fact that Jyoti will be teaching here. Sushma is upset and starts tearing down the decorations that she's put together, and Padma goes to stop her. She takes her to KK, who too starts to comfort her. She then goes to Jyoti and suggests that they return home. Jyoti agrees, saying there's a lot of work to be done. Padma asks what work, and Jyoti says that there's a dance school to be opened. Sushma looks up at her in surprise, and everyone else is puzzled by her statement. Padma tells her to come home and rest, and Jyoti assures her that she hasn't gone mad. She wants to start a dance school, regardless of when or how that happens, but happen it will. She's not going to simply sit at home out of fear of the public. She tells Deepu & Sushma that their efforts haven't gone to waste - one avenue is closed, but several others are open. There are enough people in this city who would be more interested in her talent, rather than her affairs. She asks Deepu & Sushma to come w/ her.

That night, Deepu is trying to get the Seth-ji who gave him that lot to waive the fees, saying that he hadn't used it even 1 day. The Seth-ji tells him that whether he uses it for 1 day or 1 hour, he has to pay the whole thing. Deepu tells him that he's vacated the lot, and that the Seth-ji is at liberty to lease it to anyone else. He tries to negotiate 15 days, and then asks for the deposit, and the Seth-ji tells him that the deposit has been spent, and if he gets it from someone else, he'll return it to Deepu. He tells him not to visit him every day, but that he'd call him. He suggests that Deepu return home, or the doctor would take whatever he's owed. At home, Padma is horrified to know that he couldn't get even the deposit back, and wonders how he'll get to hold a new place.

Next morning, Jyoti is at a bank that gives loans to women's small business, but the lady there declines, saying that they lend money to women's start-ups, but a dance school is not a business. She suggests that Jyoti open a women's business center, which too has a good scope. Jyoti tells her that she understands her points, but that she too has her strengths, and she herself was a dancer. She said that going forward, at some point, she'd like to merge it w/ a singing school, where along w/ dance, music would also be taught. She concedes that these are long term plans, but to fulfill big dreams, they have to start w/ small steps. She asks for a loan of Rs 20k. The lady tells her that she understands her, and even wants to help, but she can't lend her money in the name of a dance school. She can lend her a personal loan, but Jyoti would have to put in a guarantor. Jyoti offers Sandeep's name as a guarantor, telling her that he works in a courier company. The lady agrees, and tells her to consider it done. Jyoti is happy and thanks her.

The lady tells her that she'll order a form, and asks Jyoti her name. She says Jyoti Vashisth, and on further questioning, says Jyoti Pankaj Vashisth (again, do women in Rajasthan use their husband's name as their own middle name?) The lady puts down the phone and asks her who is she making fun of? Jyoti is surprised.

Part 2

The lady explains that her bank is specializes in lending money to poor women who are in need of starting their own opportunities. Jyoti's family is the type that can lend them loans, rather than take loans from them. Jyoti tries to explain to her, but the banker continues that her family is among the richest in the city, so she doesn't know what Jyoti's motives are, but she can't support her at all. Jyoti leaves.

At his office, Sandeep's boss asks him why he wants another advance again. He tells Sandeep that he understands his problems, but he too has his limitations. As Sandeep turns to leave, his boss tells him that maybe it's out of place for him to say it, but since he considers him one of his own, he'll say it. His sister ought to return to the Vashisth family. He tells him that family fights do happen, but that's no reason to leave the family. He suggests that Sandeep persuade Jyoti to return to her family, saying if she does, all her problems will be solved. He points out that Sandeep had himself said that this was a misunderstanding, and suggests that he work towards clearing it. Sandeep agrees.

Sandeep steps out, and one of his colleagues bumps into him, and Sandeep takes him aside. The colleague tells him that he overheard that conversation, and that if he needed money, he should have asked him. He told him that he had gone to the bank to draw money for his sis, but looks like Sandeep needs it more. He offers Sandeep the Rs 5k. He tells him to keep it, and that they can both be of help to each other, now that Sandeep is floor manager. He tells Sandeep that for the last 2 years, he's been trying to get a transfer to Jaipur, but nobody listens to him. He tells him that if Sandeep puts in a word, he can get transferred and become the pride of his family, while Sandeep too can make use of the Rs 5k. Sandeep is now angry, and returns him the cash, and tells him that if that's what he wanted, he'd have done it for free, since everyone wants to be the pride of his family. However, he refuses to be bribed, and asks the colleague to get back to work.

At home, on the roof, Padma & Sushma are working, and Padma praises Sushma on her work. However, Sushma says that mere praises don't put food on the table. She says that if she were to do this same work in someone else's house, at least they'd supplement their income. Padma tells her that she's been working beautifully since morning, so what's wrong w/ her now? Sushma laments that she's nothing but a burden on the house. She wonders how much would Deepu have to do on his own? Padma points out to her that as Jyoti said, she should finish her studies first, and then go out to work. Sushma complains that nobody understands her situation - that always, in the kitchen, they are running out of something or the other, so how is it possible to focus on studies? Sushma also says that Jyoti is capable of leaving the past behind and forging ahead, but she isn't Jyoti.

Jyoti returns home and is greeted by Sushma. She asks her what's wrong, and as usual, Sushma denies that anything is. She tells her that Kalpana is in the kitchen, and so Jyoti goes in. She is preparing tea for Jyoti. She tells her that she heard of her dance class, and Jyoti tells her that she tried, but has been unsuccessful so far. Kalpana tells her that she's just started, and is already talking about it being unsuccessful - Sushma has already told Kalpana everything. She tells her to book the hall somewhere else, and that she'd provide the deposit. Jyoti tries to decline, telling Kalpana that already she's done so much for her. She will never be able to repay her, and as expected, that annoys Kalpana, who tells her that she's converted friendship into a debt? Jyoti tries to explain to her that she wants to achieve something by herself. Something will happen - she's not going to concede defeat. Kalpana offers some freaky advice - she suggests using the hall outside their quarters for a few hours, since kids can dance there - surely KK/Padma won't mind.

Part 3

Padma refuses. Kalpana asks her why, and Padma says that they don't have a problem, and they'd be happy if that happens. However, the reason Jyoti was hunting for halls in other places was that she's too well known here, and her reputation has been dogging her here. Jyoti agrees, and tells Kalpana that here, no parent would send their kids to her to learn dancing. Kalpana asks what's wrong w/ her, and that they are artistes, and they are taught to display their art, and not bother what others think of them. She suggests that Jyoti try this once - what's the worst that would happen? Just another unsuccessful attempt? Jyoti agrees, and says that when one has already fallen to the ground, there is no fear of falling. She tells Padma that she's no longer afraid of failure, but is only anticipating success. They all start rejoicing, and Sushma joins them.

Next scene - Jyoti gets off the phone, and says that today, 5 kids are coming for admission. Everybody is excited. Jyoti tells them that from tomorrow, classes would start.

Next morning, Jyoti is preparing the room for the class, while Padma is on the phone. She calls out to Jyoti, but Jyoti ignores her and keeps rearranging the room, and her dad offers to help. Finally, Padma yells, and tells Jyoti that she has to shut down her dance class, and that it can't be held here.

Precap

Padma & Deepu are having an argument regarding his marriage. Deepu angrily tells her that until he has sorted out things for both his sisters, the question of his marrying doesn't arise. Padma asks him whether he plans to stay unmarried if his sisters never get back to their sasurals, and Deepu asks her how she can think such a thing?

He then stops, and both of them turn around, and (what else?!) - Jyoti is there, looking shocked at them, having overheard every word!

Comments

First things first. I like Jyoti's defiant attitude of don't give up, despite all the opposition she faces in setting up this school, both from financiers as well as patrons. As far as helping her deal w/ adversity, no complaints there. However, there are serious judgment questions to be posed here.

First, Jyoti. In doing this, she needs to do a SWOT (Strength, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) analysis, and determine the feasibility of this project. Not because she should adapt a defeatist attitude, but to minimize her chances of failure. Being courageous in the face of adversity doesn't mean that one tries doing impossible things: it means that one should weigh out the risks and act accordingly. Her strengths here are obvious - she's been a reputed dancer before, and the opportunities here is abundant, as she was considering this once when she worked @ Sishu Mangal, and Pankaj & Dayal Uncle were both very supportive. Her weaknesses here are financial - unless she uses the Vashisth cash in her account, it is difficult for her maayka to stand guarantee for this. Deepu's boss spelt that out pretty well.

The threats here are the biggest - that Jyoti's reputation - largely undeserved, but existing nonetheless - of someone who's betrayed the Vashisth family, is keeping parents from sending their kids to her. After all, the family does have a reputation in this city, and if Jyoti is perceived as its enemy, then her customer base dries up, and if her customer base dries up, then this whole enterprise is meaningless. Granted, it's Jyoti who's been kicked out, she didn't leave, as Deepu's boss seems to think, but she's still using the name Jyoti Pankaj Vashishth, making it more difficult for her to land either customers, since the name Vashisth brings out this scandal, or lenders, since the banker above, otherwise largely supportive, backed out when she learned that Jyoti was from that family. Granted that Jyoti's sense of honor prevents her from either borrowing cash from Kalpana or using Pankaj's money, but that's why, she has to pick one decision or another:
  1. She should, as she desires, avoid using the Vashisth money in this as she has been doing, but also, stop calling herself Jyoti Pankaj Vashisth and revert to Jyoti Sharma OR
  2. She should continue to use the Vashisth family name, but in that case, freely dip into her bank account that has the security money that Pankaj gave her
If Jyoti stops using the Vashisth name, the least that will happen is that people who don't readily recognize her will accept her in her role. But right now, since she uses the Vashisth name, it either brings alive the scandal for those familiar with it, while making those unfamiliar with it think she doesn't need their help, since she has a prominent family behind her. Once she stops, it won't end her problems w/ those who know from sight that she's a Vashisth, but it will end it for those unfamiliar w/ her.

On her not borrowing from Kalpana, Jyoti is right in wanting to do something on her own steam, but just as she borrows money from lenders, she should do the same w/ Kalpana, since Kalpana is one of the few who won't refuse on grounds that she is a Vashisth. She needs to plan out all of the above, instead of just randomly trying one avenue after another. She need not crawl under a rock out of fear of society, but since she's pregnant, it's a good reason for her to lie low for the time being until she has given birth: by that time, this 'scandal' would have died down in the public eye.

Deepu did the right thing in rejecting the bribe today, but his sanity ought to be questioned in taking such advances to fund something that right now is such high risk. Nor did he do his homework in determining who's a reliable lender. His boss is somewhat right in saying that Jyoti's hope lies in reconciling w/ her family, but it's her family that won't reconcile w/ her, despite her carrying their offspring.

Sushma seems to have inherited whining from KK, and has it down to a T. As for Padma's phone call, I suspect it was some cancellations at the last minute, which is why she probably told Jyoti that she couldn't hold her class there. Incidentally, since KK considers the house to be Jyoti's, why would she need permission from either him or Padma to hold a dance class there?

Exit question: do you think that ultimately, someone from the Vashisth family is going to be the person who underwrites Jyoti's dance school, whenever she does start it?

Episode rating: 👍🏼 Aside from the refreshing attitude of Jyoti, a pretty boring episode. I missed the Vashisths today - not CM or Pankaj, but Suday, MN&G...

I didn't get to see it, and won't until Monday. When I do see the precap, I'll post it. In the meantime, if anybody has seen the re-run on Friday @ 11:30, and if it showed a precap, please post it. If they didn't, that means that there ain't one.

Incidentally, did they show Friday's show @ 8:30pm or 7:30pm?

OK, the precap, updated above: I've made this update come unglued, since tonight, it will be replaced anyway.

I see Deepu's point, but problem here is that whenever Jyoti or Sushma hear such things, like out here, they think that they are either unwanted at home, or a burden. As it is, it's w/ great difficulty that they got either of them to return home (or else, Jyoti might have stayed w/ Kalpana), and now, Deepu, not Padma, risks inadvertantly giving them the impression that as long as they are there, his troubles aren't over, and ergo, he can't marry.

In Jyoti's case, while there is a possibility of Pankaj relenting at some point and calling her back, in Sushma's case, her returning to Brij is the last thing they want. So what exactly does Deepu mean? Does he want them to re-marry, and if so, who does he expect to marry them? It would be one thing if they were both childless, but both of them are knocked up, making them singularly unattractive as potential wives to anyone other than Pankaj or Brij. Also, both of them are still wearing their mangal sutras, which he has to get them to lose.

If he doesn't expect them to re-marry, then what? In Jyoti's case, he can hope, but since he's heard that Pankaj is not even interested in his baby, why does he think that there is anything anyone can do for him to call Jyoti back? And in Sushma's case, what's his solution? Send her to Brij's relatives, who she presumably doesn't know, and who don't know her?

The precap unfortunately wasn't obvious as to why Padma aborted Jyoti's dance session today.
