Part 1
The scene starts where Deepu hears from Sushma that Brij is there, and is in a quandry on how to tell his folks, since their hosts know nothing about Brij/Sushma. (Shouldn't be hard, since they can say that she's the woman rescued, he's the husband w/o revealing that she's Jyoti's sister or he Jyoti's ex.) Deepu gets up and tells them that one of his friends is in trouble, and he has to go right away. Pankaj asks whether he was in an accident, and Deepu tells him that that he'd know only after he got there. Uday asks him where this is, and Deepu tells him in their mohulla. Uday offers to take him there, but Deepu declines, and says that after he goes, if he finds that they need help, he'll call them. MN accepts that, but tells Deepu to let Uday/Pankaj know no matter what happens. Deepu thanks them and leaves. CM comments that kids nowadays are always in a hurry, and have no higher priorities than friends.
Back @ Sushma's home, she is crying and still panicky as the knocking on the door continues. However, this time, it's Deepu and he calls out to Sushma. Sushma goes to the door, removes the cot block and Deepu comes in, asks what happened. Sushma begs him not to go back, and Deepu tells her that he is back. From the back door, the knocking continues from Brij, so Deepu & Sushma head there. Sushma appeals to him to be careful, as Brij can do anything, but Deepu threatens to kill Brij today and opens the door. However, he sees that Brij has fled.
Back @ the Vashisths, in the kitchen, Jyoti and Sudha are gathering the dessert items, and Jyoti asks her why she didn't tell her that everyone from home was coming to eat. Sudhi tells her that she really thought Jyoti knew. CM comes in and tells them that everything went well, and the phag phere discussions were also finalized. Sudha & Jyoti look at each other worried, and CM asks what's wrong? Jyoti says that nothing is, and leaves to get the other items. CM asks Sudha why Jyoti seemed upset. Sudha tells her that Jyoti didn't know that everyone from home was invited. CM is surprised, and tells her that she herself had told Jyoti (Yesterday, she told Jyoti that she had told Sudha to tell her) so how could she say that? Besides she doesn't need to inform Jyoti of everything, since she's not a stranger that she needs to be told everything. CM tells Sudha that she knows Jyoti's true nature, and tells Sudha that Jyoti will be blaming her for all this. She offers to go and talk to her right away, but Sudha stops her, telling her that it's no big deal, so let it be. Sudha also tells her that she was at fault here, and should have told Jyoti. CM tells Sudha that she's too simplistic, and doesn't see any fault in others (Actually, CM is correct here, even though she may be doing this for manipulative reasons: Sudha never sees fault in others, like Padma, et al) She doesn't even seem to understand what others do wrong. CM then walks out of there. She then goes to Jyoti and asks her why Sudha didn't tell her that her family is coming, and what was there to hide? She then offers to scold Sudha. Jyoti appeals to her not to, and tells her that it's no bid deal. CM asks her how it's not a big deal, when she had asked Sudha to tell Jyoti that her folks were coming, so that Jyoti too would be happy. She continues that this is not just Sudha's family, but Jyoti's as well. Jyoti tells her that she must have forgotten by accident, and to let it be. CM tells her that it's not right to withold such important information. However, since Jyoti wants it that way, she's fine with it, and Jyoti is relieved to hear that. CM leaves.
Part 2
At the Sharma house, Sushma is crying on Padma's lap, and Padma vows never to leave her alone again. What if Brij comes back - she can't take that risk again. KK asks who could have known that Brij would re-surface? There is always somebody in the house, and there are rare occasions when they all have to go out, and that too at night. Dadi says that night or day, Sushma is never to be left alone. Sushma tries to re-assure her otherwise. Padma asks her how can one not worry, but Sushma tells her that Brij doesn't have the balls to surface there during the day, in front of everybody. Deepu agrees w/ her that he's a first rate coward, and that he'd have broken his ??? had he met him. He decides to go and file a police complaint. KK restrains him, and tells him that he'd support any decision Deepu makes if he makes it after thinking thru it, b'cos they can't take any risks any more, and will have to be careful. Deepu also tells them all to not give Jyoti any clues about this. Sushma agrees that Jyoti and Sudha should be told nothing about it, and when Sudha comes home for the phag phere, everything should be done in good cheer. Nobody should have any suspicions (I'm glad that in addition to hiding things from Pankaj & Uday, they're now going to hide things from Jyoti and Sudha, at least that way, treat them as Vashists, rather than Sharmas đđđ)
Brij is at his pub (where else), and says Madam, this is only the beginning. Just watch what happens going forward. Brij then chuckles to himself on how like a rat, Sushma was trembling in a corner. The bartender asks him whether he said anything? Brij asks him whether he knows how to play cat & mouse. He says that from today, a cat & mouse test match will start (didn't know they had these) But 5 days wont be enough, and they'll need a new drama daily.
Back in the Sharma household, KK goes to Padma and asks her what she is looking for. Padma tells him that there's nothing left in this house, they had exhausted all their sources of advance. They are so much in debt that they are embarrassed to go in front of anybody. That's what she was afraid of. KK asks her to just spit out what she's thinking. Padma said that had the marriage been b/w equals, it would have been okay. Otherwise, giving a daughter in marriage is like putting a noose around her parents' necks đđđ Tomorrow, Sudha is coming for the phag phere, and they can't send her back empty handed. They'd have to give something to their family so that they don't have to hang their heads low. KK thinks about it, and asks her to come with him. They go to his room, and he goes to open a box, and Padma remarks that he hasn't touched that box for years. KK opens it and takes out a gold medal from a jewel case. KK gets a flashback of when he ran to his father w/ joy and showed him that gold medal. He recalls his father congratulating him, and how he enabled him to hold his head high, since he now excels in sports as well as in studies, and how one day, he'd be an Olympic gold medalist (That one was really stretching it, but one gets the point) In a choked voice, KK describes how years ago, he made his father proud with that medal. He kisses the medal, and says that today, if that medal can uphold his honor in his daughter's sasural, what could be greater? Padma protests, but KK tells her that there's no point to clinging to mementos of a past that's gone. (Both Padma & KK were pretty emotional about this medal: this was a beautiful scene, and a rare one involving Padma.)
Part 3
At the Vashisth home, Jyoti is sitting on a swing, and Sudha comes downstairs and joins her. She tells her that the reason she didn't tell Jyoti that everyone from their maakya were coming was that she thought she knew. Jyoti tells her that she didn't know, and how could she, when nobody bothered to tell her? The truth was that Jyoti felt very bad today, like she almost never felt before. For the first time, her Sudhi thought she wasn't worthy of knowing certain information. Sudhi tells her that she understands from her looks how upset Jyoti is w/ her. She continues that she was going to tell her, but that mummy-ji (CM, since Uday doesn't call her choti-ma: maybe Sudha, like him, should just call her mom) had told her that she had already spoken to Jyoti. Jyoti recalls CM telling her @ the stairway that she had told Sudha to tell her, and how after everyone had left, how Sudha hadn't told her. (Jyoti is probably now figuring out CM's double game) She confirms w/ Sudha that that's what CM told her, and Sudha agrees. She then tells Sudha to listen to her carefully. She tells her that after today, no matter what anyone tells them about their relationship, they wont take it to heart. Any misunderstandings or any suspicions, they'd just discuss among themselves, so that they don't have any doubts in their own minds about each other, nor hurt each other only to regret it later. She confirms that Sudhi gets her points. Sudha asks her to forgive, but Jyoti tells her that she's not the one who did anything, so why should she apologize. She then sends her to bed, and they both hug each other. As Sudha returns to her room, Jyoti wonders why CM is trying to drive a wedge b/w them. She resolves that no matter why, she wouldn't let this attempt by CM to drive a wedge b/w them succeed.
Precap
Sushma is running down an alley w/ a shopping bag, obviously being chased by Brij. At a point, she stumbles and falls, and the vegetables fall out of the bag. She gathers them, and then sees a tomato, and is about to go for it, when Brij picks up the tomato and tosses it b/w his hands like a cricket ball. Sushma stares at him - obviously, he is mocking her or just entertaining himself at her expense.Comments
A good episode today, in that at the end, Jyoti, and probably Sudha, figure out that CM is trying to drive a wedge b/w them, and resolve not to let it succeed. While it would have been good had Jyoti figured out that CM had not accepted either of them and was trying to get rid of them by setting one against the other, the fact that they decided that this essential goal of CM's be thwarted at all costs is likely to ensure that CM has to continue to keep up this act indefinitely, which she is unlikely to pull off. If this goal of hers isn't realized, neither will be her goal of getting the family to dislike them. I do hope Jyoti realizes that CM and Minal have in no way changed their opinion of either Sudha or Jyoti, despite those outward appearances of giving Sudha all the jewellery.
However, one side effect of CM's behavior - as far as Sudha goes, being buttered up like that by CM would do wonders for her self esteem like nothing else has, even though it is not CM's intention to actually be beneficial towards Sudha. Like the pep talk about how Sudha never sees any fault in others - if Sudha actually learns from CM to stand up for herself even minimally, she'd do herself a world of good. And as long as CM doesn't find out that the 2 have resolved not to let differences come up b/w them, she has to keep up this act. If she does that long enough for Sudha, it'll do Sudha a world of good.
The part about KK pulling out his old medal and getting old memories was an emotional one. I was sad that they have still not got back the necklace that Sushma had been given: had that happened, they could have given it to Sudha. It was disgusting of CM to force on them the phag phere rasam, when it's supposed to be they who are coming up w/ it.
I also liked the decision by Deepu & Sushma to not tell either Jyoti or Sudha about Brij. At one level, it's poetic justice for Jyoti supressing Sushma's info from her sasural, but more than that, both Jyoti & Sudha are under enough pressure already, and trying to get their new family to like them. The last thing either of them need is to turn back their attention towards their maakya - a move that in the past caused even Gayatri to resent Jyoti. Sudha doesn't need this baggage from the people who had only accepted her b'cos they risked losing Uday w/ her.
