Rupinder, I shall wait for Periyamma to come back to you on this... but, I have something to add to too, if you wouldn't mind...
A mother and father birth a child. Celebrate his/her arrival with pomp and splendour. Buy them nice clothes. Feed them good food. They are the pride of the family. Send them to good schools. Send them to tuitions. Go out as family to watch movies and whistle at love stories! Make trips to beaches. Have dreams that they'd grow up and become a 'big' man - or in the case of a girl that she'd get wedded into a nice household. Celebrate several Diwalis/Eids...
Send him/her to college. Pray for them. Fast for them.
At college, the girl or boy falls in love with a boy/girl from another community.
The parents come to know.
He/she is warned.
They don't listen
The same parents give a second warning. When that doesn't work either, they order the brothers/cousins/hitmen to kill the children. Their OWN children. And then label it, 'honour killing'!
This is not in one family. It is the case in several families.
If THIS behaviour exists, even today, then can we really fault Shehzaade 100% for being the self-centred political despot that he is?
Actually, I can borrow Shyamala Periyamma's words that she used just now for the kind of love some characters in HBAS have - 'Conditional' 😊 What Shehzaade had for AMK was conditional love! AMK, on the other hand, had unconditional gratitude and love for his master.
