Heera must have felt that Gauri's assumption is hardly a percent of the whole truth even if it were true. Ustad Khan Sahib had a multitude of other motives as well. But how fully correct Gauri was. Khan Sahib's care for Heera was the ONLY reason why he came back.

The basic jist of it is true... but as you said the story is so complex with so many layers to it... you see it from different people's viewpoints - each would have a different take about it!

This is another very clever piece of writing.👏

During the farmaan hunt, i was wondering why there was elaboration on his tryst with the rose plant and the prick it gave him, as it had nothing to do with the secret hiding place at all. The guilt he felt while disturbing it, practically uprooting it to succeed in his mission, the prick, and now the lushness of the plant is symbolic. It must have assuaged his guilt giving him hope that his love that he had dented and damaged could thrive and flourish like the rose plant.😳

At that point, he had no idea whether it was hidden in that pot - so not wanting to leave behind any places unchecked he checked in this place too... but... since this was an exceptionally beautiful plant personally tended to by Heera, he was very guilty about doing it..

like how Bahadur is so dear to him, her plants are dear to her... he understands...

and now that it's bounced back he's happy for her...

that's the practical side and there is a symbolic side - which you have explained! 😃

So much so, that the traditionalists began sympathising towards the Kunwarsa of Manswar, ready to overlook the prince's misdeeds.

It is lines such as these that add dollops of realism to the story. Even today when there are stray incidents of honour killing, had there been no resentments it would have sounded utopian. The division of opinion in the people was the most natural thing and inclination towards the swine too a distinct possibility in some.😡

Of course... even today, people are ready to overlook the misdeeds of their own kakshi/jaathi/matham/caste/class but not accept others!
