The recent Star Plus of Mahabharat was very good ( though i started watching it quite late...since war preps...then watched select episodes on net). May be someone with that much capacity or more could take it up. The story offers immense potential for intrigue charm and interest.

As far as I know.. the recent Star Plus Mahabharat was very good in casting and visualization but still they also deviated from the history where SUN TV Mahabharatham is good at story but casting and other things were very poor👎🏼 According to those observation personally I don't prefer the serialization of PS as it's possible only in Tamil. I don't like to see my most admirable characters on Tamil regular daily soap actors😕 What do you think?

I always felt like Smiley's lack of acting skills made her seem less evil. She didn't look cruel at all. Laveena's good so she has those expressions which a traditional vamp is supposed to have.

Smiley looked way too old with Rajat. The couple looked like an utter mismatch

Ruqaiya 2, my dear Alakh, has about as many expressions as Katrina Kaif! 😉

When Jalal is wracked with grief, she looks utterly blank, and slinks away with great relief when Hoshiyaar calls her away, with his usual show of blatant impertinence in intruding on such a scene. Later, after Maham upbraids her for her folly she looks, what else, blank again. A traditional vamp has to work much harder than this!

I used to compare Ponniyin selvan with Mahabharatham and Sivakamiyin Sabatham to Ramayanam.

SS is an one-line treatment. Like Ravanan kidnapping Seetha, Pulikesi kidnaps Sivakami. Narasimhavarmar like Rama goes and rescues her after burning Vathabi.
In PS, there are conspirators, revenge, fight for soil etc like MB.

Nooo!😲

None of the known faces - neither tele nor films as NONE of the current lot can talk Tamil properly. And none of them have the classical royal looks. Surya looked good as the Pallava king in the couple of scenes of 7m Arivu. But his Tamil too is pathetic.

Diction is very important in historicals. Rajat and Ashwini apart from being very good actors stood out due to their excellent urdu. Paridhi on the other hand spoke just average shuddha hindi. 😳

Language and diction are definitely a huge stumbling block when it comes to Tamil these days - Malayalam has it much better that way - even Hindi with Urdu words is a problem for many of the aspirants to stardom - they don't seem to realize that language is not an afterthought but the mainstay in an audio visual medium like cinema and television.

Dear Shyamala,
Thank you for welcoming me in your virtual familyfold on this Auspicious Day!
Yes, as you said, there was something in the serial, other than the Rajat and Paidhi factor, which made us spellbound. But it did a somersault after the re entry of Jodha to Agra, Jodha becoming very docile and Jalal henpecked.
Almost everyone started to take advantage of her, making the serial an ordinary saas-bahu soap. In such serials, the MIL will illtreat her DIL to a mximum extent till the last but one episode ( mostly the 999th) and the DILgiving her back on the last one. Here Ruqaiya was shown as a brutal vamp torturing Jodha every way possible, till the 564th episode when Jodha puts down her foot. And finally she apologises in the last episode.
I stopped watching the seial after Ruqaiya started scheming to have Jodha's child for her.

Yes, I liked your comparison of Jalal's patient waiting " like a a husband forced to accompany the wife on a shopping trip"! I have seen men at the crowded Saree shops in Chennai sitting patiently waiting for their wives .

Saraswathi.

There is an Akka to akka now. Need to catch up - Lots of interesting stuff in this thread - will come back in weekend.

Yes - JA Tamil version used to be watched by my mom and I found it really irritating. This is not a serial to be watched in Tamil. But still they used to call Jalal sehansah 😆 and not Chakravathi etc.

Good to see so much tamil crowd. Kaarkuzhali - What a beautiful tamil name .

Anyone with long black hair is bound to be beautiful. And here it has aged with grace.

Also what is special about JA today to me ? It is this incredible writing and wonderful responses. TRULY.

Love you all 😃
