CHAPTER 1
Three months before:
"Dr. Rohan, are all the doctors present in the conference room." Jalal asked as they moved towards the conference room. Today was the day when a new batch of doctors was going to join Sanjeevani as interns. And Dr. Jalal and Dr. Rohan, the administration head were going to address them.
"Yes Dr. Jalal, six interns were supposed to come, but only five of them are present. Dr. Jodha Rajput is the one left to come. I think we should wait for a few more minutes for her to arrive." Dr. Rohan said as they both were moving towards the conference room.
"Dr. Rohan we are not supposed to wait for the interns. I think the reporting time was at sharp 10:00 am and now it is near to 10:05." Jalal said in a harsh tone. He was a time bound person. Punctuality was one of his topmost priorities.
"But sir she was a fifth rank holder in the M.B.B.S exams." Dr. Rohan tried to explain him.
"Rules are not changed for anyone Dr. Rohan. Not here at least." He said in his harsh tone and entered the conference room. All the interns stood up and greeted them.
"Good morning doctors, I am Dr. Jallaluddin Mohammed, the HOD of the cardio department and this is Dr. Rohan, the admin head. I think we should start with the introductions. All the interns one by one started to introduce themselves.
"Dr. Neha from Sanjeevani Medical College (SMC)."
"Dr. Samar from SMC."
"Dr. Priya from SMC as well"
"Dr. Aahil from SMC"
"Dr. Vedika from SMC as well"
"DR. Salima from SMC as well"
Then jalal gave a small speech on the hospital and the staff and then addressed the interns, "Okay so welcome to Sanjeevani and you all are expected to work with immense effort and empathy. I hope you all will come true on our expectations and won't let us down." Jalal said and all the interns agreed in union.
"Yes sir, and thank you very much."
Jalal left the room and Lo! A young lady in her mid twenties came and bumped into him. He looked at her, she was in a hurry, "I am sorry, will you please tell me where are the doctors are." She said in a single breath.
"Why? And I am a doctor too." Jalal asked concerned.
"There is a woman in my car. She met an accident and has a severe head injury." She told.
"Oh! Okay, Dr. Rohan please arrange for a stretcher immediately and call the nurses and Dr. Rao too. It's an emergency."
Immediately everything was arranged and the woman was put on the stretcher when the girl said "There is a huge blood loss, please ensure that is taken care of."
Although she knew that this was a hospital and there were doctors too around but she couldn't stop herself from informing them. Jalal when heard this he felt as if the girl was a doctor too as she had also told him about the injury being a severe one which was true and also the empathy with which she brought the woman in the hospital without caring about her car or anything else showed that.
"Are u a doctor too?" He couldn't help asking.
"Oh yes, I am Dr. Jodha Rajput. One of the intern from the new intern's batch from SMC in this hospital." And she extended her hand for a handshake with him. Jalal also extended his hand and said "Oh so you are the late as well as the fifth rank holder from our medical college. And I see you have an eligible reason for that too so I think you should be excused for this time but mind it, not from next time. Welcome to Sanjeevani Dr. Jodha. I am Dr. Jala..."
"Dr. Jalaluddin Mohammed. Who dosen't recognize you sir. I read all your articles in the HEALTH magazine regularly and also about your surgeries and miracles." She completed his sentence as he shook her hands. He smiled embarassedly and shrugged.
"And yes sir and I will try that I never let down my seniors." She said.
"Dr. Rohan please make sure that her duties are assigned to her ASAP."
Jodha was dressed in a simple blue-white churidaar kurti with a white embroidered neckline. Two small pearls in her ears, a high pony, no make but just her kohl lined eyes completed her appearance and made her look like a pure beauty in simplicity. The white coat completed her proffessional look and also enhanced her personality. Her duty chart showed that she was assigned under Dr. Mehta, HOD, Neurosurgery department, for the day. She came out of the common room and made her way towards Dr. Mehta's cabin.
"May I come in Dr. Mehta?" She asked before entering.
On getting a yes she entered the cabin and wished him politely.
"Oh so the new and the late intern is assigned under me today." He said playully.
"Yes sir and I think I have beeen nicknamed the late intern' by the whole staff." She said in her usual bubbly self.
"Yeah I think so. So your first duty is to give me the condition record of all the patients I have operated upon. You can get the list from the admin room." Jodha nodded in a yes and left the cabin.

It was lunch time but Jalal didn't feel like eating so he made his way towards the chidren ward, his favorite place.
"Hello lovely people how are you all?" he asked all the chidren.
"We are fine Dr. Jalal, how are you?" they replied.
He went and sat with a small boy suffering from cancer.
His heart always ached for and went out to this boy and he always wished he could do something to save him. Being the child of and brought up by a single mother he always felt the need to have a father. And he tried that not even a single childin his hospital, orphanage or his surroundings felt like this. He was like a father figure to all this children.
"I am fine dearies and I hope you all are taking your meds on time." He further asked.
"Yes Dr. Jalal" they replied although only after making some cute faces to which Jalal chuckled.
It was around 2:15 at noon when Jodha finished her work and went towards Dr. Mehta's cabin to submit the records.
"Sir here are the records you asked me to make." She said as she kept the files on the table.
"Dr. jodha you were working in the lunch break too?" he asked surprised.
"You are doing the same thing sir and my duties are my first priority. Thankyou sir and please do let me know if you have some other duty for me." She said and left the cabin softly.
She started moving towards the cafeteria to have her lunch and also to meet her batch mates when a sight caught her eyes. Dr. Jalal was trying to convince a child to have his injection. While Jalal was talking to the children the nurse came with food for Amar, the cancer patient. He had his food but was not in a mood to have the injection so he was crying badly. Jalal didn't like to see children crying but the injecton was important too. She entered the ward slowly.
"May I try sir?" she asked Jalal.
"Dr. Jodha do you think you will be able to? Making Aman ready for something is not an easy task." He said as he got up from the stoo beside Aman's bed.
"Oh so you are Aman. I wanted to meet you for a long time." She said as she took her place on the stoo l on which Jalal was sitting earlier.
"Why? You also want to give me the injection." He asked innocently and some more tears sprand out of his eyes.
"No! Okay you don't want the injection so we will not give you one. Nurse put the injection back. See but on one condition." She then said wiping his tears.
"What condition." Aman asked.
"That you have to become my friend." She sweetly said. Aman smiled.
"Okay, you are very good and I will become your friend." He said smilingly.
"Okay so now we are friends then you tell me what do you like to do?" she asked inquiringly.
"I like to travel. My papa was in army so we went to many places." He replied.
"Oh so lets play one game. You close your eyes and I will ask you questions about your trips and you first imagine and then answer me. Okay." She asked him.
"Okay." He readily replied. She asked him questions and he answered excitedly and she slowly took the injection from the nurse and injected it in his arm. He was so engrossed in answering Jodha about his trips that he didn't even feel the pain of the injection.
"Aman open your eyes. See I have injected you and you didn't even feel the pain and you are medicated too. Now you will get well sooner than you were about to before. Very good." She said as she finished.
"Really. But it didn't hurt. You are very good and from now on will you only inject me please?"
"Ofcourse baby. Chalo ab so jao. Good boy."
Jalal was witnessing everything. He was amazed at how easily she made the child have his medications. It was really appreciable.
"I must say Ms. Jodha you really did it. The way you handeled Aman was very appreciable. I must say u have a golden touch with children. I am impressed." Jalal could not help saying.
"Thankyou very much sir. Children are like wet clay. They will take the shape you give them and you should know the art of shaping them." She said. Jalal was at a lioo of words. First time in life someone, and that too his junior has rendered him speechless.
"Very true Ms. Jodha." He could only utter. She smiled and then politely took his leave.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
It was around 4:00 in the evening when a familiar face wearing a pink saree in her late twenties entered the door of Sanjeevani Hospital. Jalal was taking the rounds when he was her.
"Ruqaiya..." he uttered surprised.
