No, Lashykanna, it is not your fault, for one can do only so much in a day. It is a pity I missed your lambawaala analyses. Give me the coordinates, for I would like to read them. I never come here these days unless I am PMed, so I would not have seen them in any case.

Oh, Jalal will be excused all right for being so angry with God that he is even angrier with God's children, never fear. The IF hardly represents the TV audience, and when did Jalal get brownie points for anything around here anyway? The angry young man is an old and very appealing template made familiar by the young Amitabh Bachchan of the 1970s, and the appeal endures. Nor is the bulk of the real TV audience so enamoured of the Rajvanshis as the IF is. In fact I was surprised and mystified to see even Divya claiming that Jalal was taking his anger out on the Rajvanshis, which is quite simply incorrect, as many explained to her.

I am still watching Airlines, which will have only 26 episodes, and have written 3 episode analyses, for 1-5, and for 6 & 7. I do not do them unless the episode warrants it. It is a decent enough show but light stuff. I watch it mostly for the neat mystery track, for the writer is the same lady who wrote Kahani.

No dear, thanks, but I do not want to start with Zindagi Gulzar Hai. I watched Maat, which was recommended to me, for a while, but then it became dreary. It was in any case full of unkempt characters; the archetypal self-sacrificing elder sister plus a selfish, grabbing younger one, and I gave up halfway. I watched Fawad Khan in Beintehaa, and I could not make out what all the raving was about. He is just about ok , and that is it. I watched episode 1 of ZGH and switched off. I used to like the Pakistani serials of 10 years ago, but these ones bore me, I am afraid. I am no longer interested in "sensitive" portrayals of feminine angst, or in Kiron Kher's ponderous comments that match her looks.

But carry on, and I am sure you will be able to take a nice coterie with you to that forum. Far more in any case than I could coax to watch Yudh!😉

PS: I am amused by the steady devaluation of adjectives. From 'big", a hug has now to be mega" to stand out. What next? Giga?😉

But we have skipped Rani Durgawati, Munni, for that was in 1564 and we are already in 1567. Now that would have been a nice powder keg, a Rajvanshi heroine who actually went to war and almost won! But Jalal was not there, and it would not have got any budget. See how soon Mahachuchak has been effectively abandoned, though I suppose they will take her out of cold storage one of these days!

Mandy,

Akbarism was visible only within the first 100 episodes...
the jalal-bharmal talks...
the explanation and strategies that jalal laid out to his ministers in accepting the wedding proposal...
his visiting moti in the jail encouraging her to speak up...
the blunt and frank dressing down he gave jodha after her suicide attempt
the ratanpur qila...
And then it is all about jodhaism and jalladism.😭 Akbar conquered only because he was a jallad and he was fair minded only because of jodha, the great! else he was a water pot roltu cutie pie billi who rolled between the various kakshs of his harem and counted his jodha begum's hunars. his first wife could scream at him and his chahithi wife can keep moral sciencing him at the drop of the hat, and yes, she is never wrong.
Post episode 100 we got to see a glimpse of Akbarism only as badal with his corrupt officers and with toddy and in the meting out of justice to adham khan
Else, by himself, he is such a fool that he will follow his nigaar aapa to a 'mahfoos jagah'.
while his harem fights the big war with chilli powder, he will speak dharam dialogues.
he will abolish theerth kar because his begum drops trinkets in her piggy bank to help those who want to go for theerth.
he will forgive all wrong-doers if their wives are pregnant for the sake of their nirdosh baalaks!. oh aadham...you chose a wrong time to kill atga and defenestrate yourself...a few more days and javeda's pregnancy could have bailed you out.
he will never think of the jaziya or care about it until one fine morning his never-wrong begum gets an epiphany and makes him wiser. no thinking consultations or calculations but it has to be implemented only because jodha begum says so and it cannot be wrong.
ughgh!🤢
how much we bear to watch rajat!😭

Add to that, a couple of episodes, I enjoyed
Abolishing Teerth Kar after his visit to Market with Todar mal and Atgah Sahib - Dialogues in that episode was good. He also refuted Maulvis with logic, however brief it was. In the end, per serial rule book, he invoked Jodha Begum and compared the moon being common between Karva chauth and Eid. This much we will forgive, as we got him to speak in DEK for 15 minutes continuously.
One of the earlier episodes where Adham khan is not present in DEK and Jalal appoints three Governors for the states vacated by Shariff(After he flees post FP) - This was also one of the good DEK episodes.
There is another episode in which he talks about all Rajput locations and need to win in by hook or crook with Atgah Sahab, before (Alas!!) Jodha's Paigham comes with an invitation to come to the dining room where she serves self-cooked meal. I liked the way in which he listed down all Rajput kingdoms. Some Style, that was !!
When he is left to do little bit of Politics on his own in DEK, it is always a delight to watch him.
But another thing I noticed and would point is "However bad/inconsistent the script goes, Rajat never fails to do justice to that episode's emotional value by staying true to what the CV's have written that scene to be. I mean even if the Script is going 200% overboard to highlight Jodha's hunar, he still goes with it fully and gives his 100%, aligning to CV's vision and not show his dissidence. This is a very rare quality. 😊
In the 1 % space he gets for himself as a character, he brings his own method acting, nuances and skin of the character, he steals that much more than what Jodha does, with her 99%. Imagine what he will do in a script that does full justice to Akbar's political dialogues ?

hi everyone!
the heading is taken from what my dear forum fellow sandhya had to say about the current state of jalal..and i thought such a beautiful point needs a new thread and this is very much dedicated to my jalal and inspired from my dear sandhya!

jalal became akbar because of jodhaism..why all credits have been given to jodha for all the great deeds he did..and what about his own intelligence..his own capabilities and his own strategies?..he did become secular because he did not believe in one particular religion and respected all..worshiping kahna murti in jodha's hojra is one prime example as muslims are not allowed to worship murtis..but he did which speaks volumes about his greatness and being secular..and i would have appreciated if the show would have handled his being great with bit more logic and yes jodha might have advised him good and must have been really close to him and her involvement i will never shun away but the ultimate decision was only akbar's!

now jalal expanded his empire because he was jallad????..now what sort of a logic is that!..he was an intelligent man and knew what he was doing!..his military strategies were excellent and he did not have to be out of his character or go insane to conquer and win several territories..his actions and his conquers were all well planned and not like shown in the show!

last but not the least he was great..brave..intelligent..and far better than his contemporaries and there was no match to him around his time when he ruled! and i bow down to this great complete man and a ruler!

all i can say is that i hope and wish ekta to show some traits of real akbar in our reel jalal..pl maam show his intelligence and show his well planned strategies be it war or administration..we want to see it..all we have got so far is twisted interpretation of history and his in and out rounds around the harem

Lines in blue...I think ur comment is directed towards MP...Infact I am sure it is becoz you made similar comment in my thread yesterday...

What do you mean that he was far better and brave then his contemporaries? Jalal had vast means of resources under his command , infect a bit less then half the India...and Mewar was just a riyasat...Akbar has a large army compared to Mewar...But what was the result of the war which Akbar weighed in 1567...He could win only a small part and fort of Chittor...Major parts remained under Rana Udai Singh...Even after showing so much cruelity and killing thousands of unarmed civilians what did Jalal gain except the fort of Chittor?

He made mockery of his removing jizyah and removal of pilgrimage tax and lowered himself when he called this war a victory over Kaffirs, ...It raises a question mark against his secularism...So he is not that great my dear...He was using religion for political purposes...

Akbar had to weigh a second war against Mewar in 1576 which is called Haldighati war and here it was Maan Singh who won it for him but ONLY TEMPORARILY... Pratap refused to bend...and ended up winning most of his territories before his death in 1597...

So my dear Mandy Mewar was one rajput state which Akbar could never conquer...Inspite of him having such a vast resources at his disposal and killing thousands of unarmed civilians...He could never crush it...MEWAR IS A BIG BIG BLOT ON HIM AND DOES NOT SHOW HIM AS A GREAT WARRIOR EITHER...

After MP his son Amar Singh continued fighting and it was only salim who got Mewar when Amar singh's son accepted the friendship treaty with Mughals...and that was becoz they were forced to accept it by their citizens who were tired of war...So much for mighty mughals...😆...and the treaty with Mewar was on extremely respectable terms...Karan was allowed to sit in dek on the right side of emperor which even BM did not have the right...No daughter of Mewar was asked to marry...THEY WOULD NOT DARE TO...

So MP needs no glorification by EK...He was glorified by history itself in his life time...

AND I SALUTE THE SPIRIT OF MEWAR AND ALL THOSE INNOCENT BRAVE PPL WHO DIED BRAVELY DEFENDING THEIR BELOVED CHITTOR...👍🏼👍🏼

guys its a req plz dont indulge into historical discussions its against the rules. history is always biased & thts the fact. i know my words wont count into this discussions bcoz i will be taught history but i dont need to learn history bcoz im a daughter of a history prof & i can say many things about chittor war. but as since its india i will be side tracked. so mandy, ela, sandhya & all we should just stick to the show & lets not get into the historical discussions.

Regarding Amar Singh defeat, I read a detailed article on that. All I can say is khurram aka shah jahan did a lot of atrocities on the people of mewar. He arrested women and kids and tortured them to get info on amar singh etc. The atrocities were so much that some Mughal's only complained to Jehangir. When Jehangir heard it he wrote a letter to release all civilians and not trouble them. Khurram still did not stop and he had covert support of Nur Jahan to continue atrocities against Jehangir's wishes. Finally again a commander complained about what was happening to Jehangir again. And Jehangir who realized his previous letter went unheard to sent a strong message to shah jahan that he will be punished if he does not stop troubling the civilans and to release all local citizens from Mughal custody immediately. Finally Khurram had no option but to release those locals in Mughal army custody.
By then the wealth had depleted for mewar and they could not continue fight and sent messengers to khurram. Here again any one who surrendered to Mughals had to become mansabdars etc and attend Mughal court and be in service of emperor. But then Jehangir knew that if he presses for all those demands that Akbar used to make he will get into wrong books of mewar. So he exempted Amar Singh from coming to court or becoming mansabdar etc. They were also returned all territory won by Mughals with a condition not to rebuild chittor fort. Karan Singh came with Shah Jahan to submit to Jehangir. Again Jehangir treated him nicely took him on hunting trips etc basically it is said Jehangir found in karan all that he missed in his sons loyalty, respect etc. Jehangir sent him back with lots of gifts and even later met Amar Singh in rajputhana with respect by embracing him. Thus ended an enmity that lasted for 2-3 generations from Babar to Jehangir except Humayun.
