I haven't seen the serial for long but seems like they are still following similar patterns i.e. torturing Jodha and Jalal. On the other hand, Ruqaiya gets her cake and eats it too. Though if the spoilers are believed, not for long.
So what did surprise me??
Not Ruqaiya's behaviour for sure. Neither Jalal or Jodha, as they have been their usual forgiving and sacrificing selves. And certainly not the Agra inmates with their astounding stupidity.
What really surprised me, was how did Ruqaiya become a favourite wife of Jalal even before Jodha's entry? It is a question which should have been asked eons back (someone must have) but i never encountered such a thread. Why did Jalal give so much importance to a woman so insensitive to others pain? Just because she had an attitude to hit him back with?
He wasn't THAT impressed when Jodha showed a lot of spunk in the beginning of the serial. If really was he so impressed with ladies who answered back at him and stood up to him, then ideally he should have been elated when Jodha placed her sword at his neck or attacked him with a knife and fell head-over-heels in love with her right then. But as reel history has it, he didn't. Instead he wanted to kill her and hated her with a vengeance.
So hence, from above incidents and progress of previous tracks it has been proved, that standing up to Jalal and being too cheeky around him doesn't win you brownie points.
Next on the table is intelligence and wise counsel. Remember we are discussing the period in Jalal's life before Jodha's entry. At that time, Jalal was heavily counselled by MA and BK, hence even if Ruq advised him on certain matters, it would fall on deaf ears as Jalal hardly took his own decisions. And if it were really up to him, what would Jalal chose? A political advice by BK or one by BEK? I don't think we have to even ask this question. Also, looking at the situation now or even at the past few tracks, Ruqaiya doesn't seem rather intelligent too. She has that low cunning in her but that is not very reliable on a larger scale. Thus, her giving Jalal wise advice on political matters, is out of question.
So what made Ruqaiya such a favourite to him?
She sure is beautiful, but so were most of his begums in the harem as Jalal has said so many times himself. But did that make her so special? Nah.
So what made Ruqaiya rise as the BEK? Only her status as princess of the Mughal Empire and daughter of Hindal? Because i can't see any other quality that separates her from the rest of begum brigade except the monstrous insecurity and ill manners.
