Enjoy it while you can. I was reading an article on the relationship of the RSS and the BJP in the new government. The writer of the article interviewed the RSS propagandist Pramod Kumar. According to this Pramod Kumar, one of the changes the new govt would bring in is remove "excessive praise of the Muslim Emperor Akbar" in history textbooks.

One can't really praise this serial enough for bringing awareness about Akbar and his achievements. The movie JA was just a blip on the radar, it did not achieve much. Before that there were comics and Mughal-e-Azam for the general audience. Most people only knew a little about Akbar from history text books as that secular Mughal who did good things for the empire and had a favorite courtier Birbal.

For the past one year the serial has been giving us a daily dose of Akbar. I know the portrayal at times has been irritating but is is still potent enough for casual viewers to know how good a King, Akbar was. Perhaps now with the Trith Kar episode we will get more of Akbar's achievements and beliefs.

It is sorely needed, last year a local college in Ambala wanted to celebrate Akbar's birthday but it was violently opposed by the ABVP who went on dharna. The college had to cancel.

ABVP is the student wing of the BJP.

yup, atleast they respected him for his achievements n different thinking.
Whole world has changed but some ministers of india are still stuck at hindu ,muslim n playing divide n rule!!
😔 thats y hate this politics.
They should actually read about akbar, n if they will follow even 10% of akbar's strategies n policies then our country will prosper like never before.

r they mad or what??
Now after few years government will start exploitation of monuments built by akbar or what??
They r happy enjoying cultural heritage mostly created by mughals ,particularly akbar, but they feel ashamed in acknowledging him as one of the greatest ruler??? Pathetic!!

To be fair, BJP is not the same as the RSS. The BJP government may not want to follow the advice of the RSS. They may want to focus on important issues like the economy rather than tamper with history.

One should not worry about the rewriting of history books because most states in India have their own Education Boards and they write their own text books. In many states like Gujarat or Madhya Pradesh, Akbar has already been consigned to the role of a minor king. So, even if changes are made in history textbooks at the national level it won't be anything that has not been done already in some of the states.

Besides, as I said earlier popular culture has a much more important role to shape the opinions of people about a person's life and beliefs. Akbar has been fortunate in that regard, he has two blockbuster movies and hit serial in his name. Which other historical figure can claim that?
