Before i start i declare i am NOT supporting (Lord) Curzon.😆

1. He provided financial support and institutional autonomy to the Archaeological Survey of India.
2. He passed the Conservation of Ancient Monuments Act.
3. He sanctioned Rs. 1 Lacs(110 years back😕), for conservation of Ajanta and Ellora Caves in Maharashtra and personally visited them.
4. He created the post of Director General of Archaeological Survey of India.
5. He introduced a course of Epigraphy in Indian Universities.

He was interested in Indian monuments. So he did this..!..Also, some revenue came through it.

Note :
I am ONLY sharing some info, not proving him to be a saint..!.. 😕
He did commit greatest BLUNDERs in Indian History.(leave it.🥱)

BTW, Policy of Divide n Rule flourished even before dating back to Romans - Divide eT Empera.
And, Curzon got this IDEA from a British MP named Elphinstone.

He had some connection with Akbar and MUZ also.😲 Will write later on my thread.😉
I know i should not bring "her" here. But can't resist. Since this topic started. 😆

Can you ever resist?😆😆😆😆
Akbar must be turning in that serene grave that Ela posted, angry that there is someone in his own Hindustan who adores MUZ more than he himself did!😆😆😆
Nice to hear that Lord Curzon did something for Archaeology.😊
But he succeeded in creating a permanent and un-patchable divide in the land that Akbar took such pains to merge and unite.Confused

Thnks a lot for sharing dear.
When that day in the serial he was talking about religions and his people. I almost cried. His words touched my heart. He was a 16th century king and he had such great thoughts. And here in 21st century some politicians in my country used religion to play politics. Forget respecting some didn't even consider the peoples of other religion as humans. Such a same.
And he never judge people based on their religion. Loved all his prajas from all religions. Why can't be our politicians like that.
And its a shame that none of his decendeds think like him. Especially that Aurangjeb.
I sometimes think Wish I could meet him.

Err...!!...A correction..!!...I like BOTH not "ONLY" a single..!!..😆..

I won't discuss it here. But, still would like to mention one more thing, the place where i found the info on Akbar and Guru Amar Das Ji.
At the same place i found something about Akbar's Hindu Queen's' also.😉
But as i said in above comment also. I will write on my thread later..

@Lord Curzon...
He constructed canals in Punjab also. But that was a PURE tactical move. For revenue generation.
He estd. Agriculture Research stations also.

Note:
Personally, i do not LIKE him. And you have already stated the reason.!.
But he DID important works in Archeology.

No issues. But i have read texts which say something as i wrote here.😊

I wrote my views as i have read MANY western texts who mention the SAME Mariam Uz Zamani to be a Christian wife of Akbar.😊
And these are written by Western "Scholars" only.

I do not have all my sources right now but some which i have noted in my diary.
I am mentioning some of them.
Majority of them are OLD sources.😊

1.
De Imperio Magni Mogolis(Italian) by
J. de Laet, Director of Dutch East India Company
Written in 1631.

This man mentions Mariam Makani, considering the word "Mariam" to be Christian.

2.
Even this thing was PUBLISHED in the statesman Newspaper 😲 on 16 December 1916 that Mariam Uz Zamani Begum was the Christian/Armenian Wife of Akbar.😕

They wrote about the wife Mariam Zamani BUT called her to be an Armenian Christian Wife.😕

3.
History of Hindustan from the first Muslim Conquest to the fall of the Mughal Empire
By Keene
In 1885, London

4.
I do not have this book's author name noted with me.😕. But have some details.
History of Christianity In India.
Published by University of Cambridge Press, United Kingdom.🤓
This book openly says Mariam Zamani was an Armenian Christian Wife.😕

5.
The Indian Empire: People History Products
By Hunter
1886, London...If i remember correctly this says about the Christian Wife Mariam.😕

6.
Blochman also in Akbarnama/Ain-e-Akbari's translation gives a mention about the Christian Wife when the name Mariam Uz Zamani arrives upon..!..

7.
India and It's Native Princes, Travels in Bombay and Bengal Presidencies
Louis Rousselet
1882, London

8.
Now, if you believe what i am writing, then please read this. I noted these few lines in my diary.

This is from the Report of Archeological Survey of India, if i am correct this is the report of last decade of 19th century.
This is about research on Fatehpur Sikri palaces.
The report talks that there are signs existing in this palace complex containing sculptured Hindu deities, and also contains rooms for Hindu priests who assisted the lady for her worship. The presence of these characteristic features points that the lady residing was NOT a Muhammedan."

There is also some mention of Muslim "mullahs" who have destroyed these.

Now, what i mean here is THAT, some western authors have called this palace to be that of the Christian Wife of Akbar. And they attribute these features to be of Christian origin.
Then how come we have Hindu deities in it.?.

Even today "SOME" people CALL this as Palace of Christian Wife in FS.🥱

In the excavation in FS in 1925, around the same palace, rallings were found which contained scenes from Ramayana. Example : Rama attended by Hanuman and other imagery from Hindu mythology. Still these people brought out journals claiming her to be Christian.!.😕

9.
A research paper was presented before the Asiatic Society of Bengal in 2nd decade of 20th century by Father FSJ Hosten. He also called Mariam Zamani to be the Armenian CHRISTIAN wife of Akbar.
In the paper he mentions that this wife MUZ of Akbar is the - "reputed, elusive and famous wife of Akbar.".
Though in the same paper mentions there is NO source by which we can prove MUZ to be a Muhammadan or Christian.

My question"??-->> Then why draft papers and creates so much nuisance after MUZ..??..😕

10.
The same story was also published in another Newspaper called "Englishman" in India.

11.
I have more evidences but can not write now. BUT EVEN This is too long.

But,
Afterall if anyone reads about this issue 1 thing which clearly emerges is that...

These authors are MAJORLY after MUZ as she held importance in Akbar's life and they take proud in saying she was of their RACE.!!.

Akbar's khawabgah had scenes from Shahnama tales.
And these people "CLAIMED EVEN" it to be from Christian mythology.

And, about the author you mentioned i.e. Dirk Collier. He is one of the good authors in many respects i have seen so far. And i was talking not about all authors but MANY of them.

The point which i was saying was that, since LONG people are after MUZ and tried to prove her to be a Christian. And, the reason is Evident -> Her status..!!..

Even the present Documentary(though i have not seen it.) mentions MUZ being Christian.😕
I feel i have given enough references which i went through. They include EVEN some of the best Presses of the world, i.e., Cambridge. And, even many others...!!...
I arrived at this STAGE after LOT of digging on MUZ..😕
I can give more but will have to dig more. Still i feel these are enough.!!.😊

Hi Abhay,
I'll use your post to first thank Mandy for making yet another post which lead to some very interesting discussions. No one is being mean, derogatory offensive...all seem to be well read and are putting their POV in a very dignified manner. Love that 😃

I always admired Akbar but my respect for him has increased by leaps and bounds after being a part of this forum...sometimes I wonder...do I watch the show just so that I understand the discussions that happen here better? ...not sure...the show is entertaining...can't argue with that.

I am not going to comment on MUZ being a christian here...I am not an expert on Mughal history like some of you guys...however, will certainly follow the discussions here...I learn something new everytime I log in.

I will comment on something else here...the ' generalization' when it comes to the sources of information.

The reason I am choosing your post to share my views is because I love the fact that you support your theories with evidence/ references . I'll admit..the skeptic in me did not start believing your claims right away. I have limited resources but I did cross check in the beginning( don't hate me for that😊)...now, i don't feel the need to...and declare you an honest and genuine researcher.👍🏼

Now , I'll share my views on 'generalizations'...have a Holi party at my place later today therefore a response to queries if any will follow much later. I haven't had a chance to watch the documentaries mentioned here but have seen/ read enough( not Mughals...my interest has been in Egyptian, Greek, Roman, sometimes south american ( inca, Aztecs, Mayans), world wars and American civil war) to confidently comment on the following statements

That is because they have no preconceived notions. Their views are not clouded by religious or nationalistic hatred. They see what happened and report it. One could almost call them neutral observers...not always true.
They are also blessed with people like the worthless Mr Nitish Kumar. The percentage of ' neutral' people is not very different from the percentage in India or any other country. I haven't watched this particular documentary but you will find 400 others that are ' biased' and 'not really neutral and define 'tunnel vision' very well.

A professional documentary is made by reputed organizations like the BBC, NBC, ABC, CBC,Discovery etc. This had nothing...the so called reputed organizations can easily be called ' pro democrat' or ' pro republican' or ' pro their own agenda' .I recently watched a program on CNN on legalization on marijuana. This was presented by their chief Medical correspondent ...a very reputed Neurosurgeon( I respect and agree with his comments almost 90% of the time) ... Since this is closely related to what i do for a living ( relax...i am not a drug dealer😊), I was puzzled by the arguments supporting it...it looked like he was almost advocating its use in the medical practice( btw he is a neurosurgeon and this is not even his area of expertise) ...but why give the prescription drug epidemic a boost?...you have to watch it to understand what I really mean...and pondering over it and discussing it with several people...I knew where my answer was...the invisible group that sponsored this show... Thousands and thousands of people die of lung cancer each year...I am yet to watch a serious documentary against the tobacco industry on any these reputed channels...i can go on and on... Same is true for pharmaceutical industry, the oil industry, prescription drug epidemic, welfare frauds...everyone ignores the elephant in the room...there are influential giants who dictate what is shown and how it is shown.Look at the content beyond the sophisticated facade...just because they don't shout on the top of their lungs like Arnab Goswami doesn't mean that they are any different as journalists...moral of the story...Just because it is being shown on BBC or CNN, does not mean that the research behind it is ' unbiased'.

well said about the research work of westerners! these people r very honest in whatever they do, therefore i do believe their work..they r neutral and unbiased as u mentioned... Wish i could agree with this generalization...it is true that the ones who choose to work( and not leech the govt and taxpayers ) are mostly hard working and somewhat ethical. You can assign work to the teams in the morning...and dont have to keep checking to see if it is being done...if they run into a problem, they will most likely contact the boss sooner that later...and you'll get the report at the end of the day ...without asking for it. ... ...this is very different from the experience of people ( some close friends I talk to) who work in other countries. Therefore, though it is somewhat acceptable to call the majority( only the ones who work and not sit at home getting a check from the govt every two weeks) as hardworking and professional...but calling all/ majority as neutral, unbiased and honest is a bit too much...the credit should actually go to the system which has low tolerance for mistakes...Punishments are harsh and you are only as good as your last month's performance/ productivity. Charity is not a norm at most workplaces...no sifaarish or no oopar se pressure to stop you from doing the right thing...like holding people accountable for their mistakes. Therefore, though I wish what you said could be applied to most westerners ( my life would have been much easier) but the real truth is that they are not very different from the rest of Human Species. A good number get reprimanded and fired and still don't learn. Trust me on this.

why so many killings on the name of religion???? Mughals were not the only culprits...happened everywhere ( still happens...how can you forget the killing of innocent sikhs who were mistaken to belong to another religion...the reason it doesn't happen more often is because of the excellent law and order situation...not lack of ' bias' or ' distorted opinions')...Read Jewish history...right from the time of Ramses II. Or Roman history...or Medieval Europe.

The only reason I am stressing on the points I mentioned above is because there are a lot of silent younger forum members who may start believing that all foreign sources are ' unbiased'...no...all human beings are biased irrespective of their race, religion or country. The only difference is...some are better at hiding it. It is good to obtain info from foriegn souces but be careful about interpreting it. If 5 different unrealated sources mention the same thing...then it becomes more believable...

Read some of the comments on reputed news sites in response to the indian foreign diplomat issue if you have time...that will tell you...no one is 'neutral' ...including you and me.😊

Gives a good idea about his tolerant views. Akbar was very inquisitive about religions other than his own. He held debates in his darbaar too. Interacted with brahmins, jesuits with equal ease. The Jesuits thought Akbar wanted to convert due to his interest. Claimed he kept a cross in his bedroom. But as far as the christian influence on Akbar is considered, I believe it was fairly limited. Otherwise the Din-E-Illahi would have some part of christian effect on it , as well. But it is usually considered an amalgam of Hindu and Muslim beliefs.

Regarding the 'mariam' thing, Mariam is the arabic name for Mary, the mother of Jesus. Or in the more of islamic sense, the holy mother.

The western historians claimed initially that 'Mariam' was the name of the christian wife. The logic they applied:
Mary must have been the name of the christian lady and once she converted to Islam, her name became Mariam though she still held on to her earlier faith to some extent. Thus, they tried to deduce that Mariam Zamani begam was a christian. That is where the whole confusion has started. They inferred wrong.

It is possible that Akbar did have a christian wife ('coz he had a varied amount in his harem but still this is hypothetical only)

Due this wrong assumption they started also seeing catholic symbols all around Fatehpur Sikri, which actually weren't there.
Mariam Zamani is strictly a title not a name just like Mariam Makani.

PS: There already has been a lot of discussion on this topic but couldn't resist to add my views. I know it goes a little off-topic 😕

ann, beautifully written!..no doubt there could have been misunderstandings in the name..as MUZ is more of a title than a name..and he must have had a christian wife which we cannot agree nor deny as he had many wives but lets concentrate on what message he had to give to us through a great life led by a great personality like him!
