i know! anyway focus on the tolerance part the bbc one just mentions about his greatness..i did not know that he sanctioned land to the sikhs to build golden temple..being a sikh myself i bow down to this man!

As a Sikh, I have always heard such horrific tales about the Mughals and forced conversion of Sikhs so it is a relief to know that Akbar actually sanctioned the land to build Sri Harmandir Sahib.

I actually looked this up right now and found that he gifted the site to Bibi Bhani who was the daughter of the third Guru as a wedding gift but I can't vouch for the authenticity of this information. Perhaps he did know the site would be used for the Temple but even if he didn't, his love for his people - no matter their religion - clearly shines through!

That Langar story is very famous. Do you know that recently Nitish Kumar, Chief Minister of Bihar, refused to cover his head to enter a gurudwara.

And 400 years ago we have a man, an emperor who sat with the ordinary people of Punjab to enjoy langar.

donjas, that is why he was great! why people still praise him and remember him even after 400 plus years!..just by sitting in the pangat he won the hearts of the sikhs and here this minister refused to cover his head..what a shame!
