For Salima Sultan Begum
Mom -> Gul'RUKH' Begum not Gul'rang'..😊
Father -> Sayyid Nur-ud-din Mirza (Humayun-Nama page-134)

Gul 'rang' begum was a daughter of Babur.
Means, Gul'rang' / Gul'badan' / Gul'rukh' were daughters of Babur.

Yes, Gulbadan Begum had many sisters and brothers, including what you wrote.

Kamran and Askari were Gul'rukh' Begum's sons.
Ruqayya was Hindal Mirza's daughter.
Yes, Salima, Ruqs and Jalal were cousins.

Actually, the names are so confusing.😕 I hope i did not do any typo error here.😆

shukriya😳

Regarding her Mughal dress culture. Paintings were made in a different manner. It was the king who described the queen, to the painter and then it was made.😉 So, i feel this clears something to an extent. Also, Abul Fazl, himself explains that both types of dressing styles existed in Mughal household. So, if her dress makes you feel that she converted then this is NOT a right justification.😃

On the other hand, accounts mention that Akbar faced around 72 revolts, due to acceptance of Hinduism in his close circle.😉 Hope this solves the matter. Moreover, today also we can see her temple in the palace's' she lived.

I have NOT read that Akbar wanted his kid to brought like that.😕 Instead, one of his sons, Daniyal, was sent to Amer, to be brought up by Raja Bharmal's wife. And, one of his sons, Murad, was initially, put under charge of Christian saints.😊

BTW, Do read all 81-82 pages.😆

have since read most of it, if that makes u happy 😆

Maddy, you always have questions ready.😆.

Are you asking history of "sari" .😕.?

But, i have read something that 'sari' was "invented" by the wife of Chandragupta Maurya named Helen. She was the daughter of Greek general Seleucus Nector, one of Alexander's generals. Alexander returned back from India around 325 B.C. , giving in charge of the territories of North-West India upto river Indus, provinces of Baluchistan, etc. to Seleucus. He married his daughter to Chandragupta.

Now, it is said that, she used to wear her Greek chiton/shiffon (?. i don't know more😕.?) around her waist and then took over around her shoulder. So, this style of 'sari' is much more matching to the present style of sari wearing. So, credit is given to her.

My personal thought.. (common sense.! )

Till now i have developed a very strong perception that, the Europeans and other historians, have tried to give more credit to themselves for ALMOST everything. Example: Take achievements of Aryabhatta in Maths, the invention of number system, the first surgery performed by Charaka.. Many examples are there from history. They are not credited or less acknowledged for these feats...

Regarding 'sari', i think before Helen also women must be wearing sari only. May be Helen's dressing style matched with modern dressing . So, she got the credit.! Also, we have some statues showing same dressing style, from the Gandhara School of Art, which developed later.

Another one-->, In Belan Valley, near Allahabad, U.P., India(Indus-Valley Civilization), evidences of earliest rice cultivation were found, dating back to 5500 B.C. . But, the historians did not agree to it.😆...And, hence, China holds the tag for earliest rice cultivation..!.. (if u want search yourself, u will understand i am saying truth only.😆.)

I think till now you must have got to know, atleast, what havoc has been wrecked on history on MUZ by some biased historians/fanatics (don't forget Aurangzeb). And, yes history is something not different from POLITICS.😉
I am just sharing mine, lizzy's and KDR81's experience with you. Coz we have read a lot. And, after reading only you will BELIEVE how easily facts can be twisted. Some examples are in this answer only..

As for Jodha/Hindu Begum, i feel i gave a very nice explanation on page-1 of this thread, about some 'ghagra' type of dress..!..You may read once more that post. You all have made me less of a science major, and more a history student.!..

BTW, handling this 'sari' department is not my domain.😉.😆. KDR81 will answer better..?.?

going slightly offtrack - from MUZ to rice cultivation 😃 Yes, rice was first discovered as wild grass and then cultivated in North India before anywhere else in the world. The amazing thing is that people in north India used to eat rice for centuries before wheat was brought in (from outside India). Rice eating spread to the rest of India but was substituted by wheat in the north. And now any self-respecting north Indian would proudly say that they are wheat eaters and only the weaklings from other parts eat rice 😆

U r right - the west does like to usurp credit for everything. But we also give them credit on a platter. In spite of being the earliest rice cultivators, if we go to any hotel in India today, the variety of rice-based dishes is very limited. And in spite of hundreds of varieties of rice being grown in India, we only talk about basmati as being the best, without giving a chance to the others!

sorry if anyone 🥱, got carried away 😆

Hey guys, I hav found an article on net on MUZ... it says that mughal emperor akbar had a deep respect for Shri Gusanji a santh .He issued a no. of shahi farmans to him as marks of special favor.Birbal,todar mal,baz bahadur,tansen n other courtiers became devoted to him.Akbar also commissioned him special paintings of shree nathji (krishna paintings).The TAJ BEGUM (maharani herakuvar bai princess of Amber chief queen of akbar ) was an ardent disciple of shri gusain ji. That means MUZ has another title TAJ BEGUM. 😃 😃 😃 ABHAY, OR ANYONE could u say is there any title Taj begum existed for MUZ as i hav found in this article.

During the first expedition of Malwa in 1561. This happened before Jo-Ja marriage. Baz Bahadur was defeated. Adham Khan tried to gain control of his mistress Roopmati, who then took to suicide. Uploading some pictures from Akbarnama which depicts these incidents. And some extra pictures.
