Content creator Apoorva Mukhija, widely known as The Rebel Kid, has made headlines once again — this time for announcing her plans to retire from content creation. The influencer, who rose to prominence after the India’s Got Latent controversy, is currently hosting Spice It Up on Jio Hotstar. She was last seen on Amazon Prime’s The Traitors, where her bold personality drew both attention and criticism.

In an exclusive conversation with SCREEN, Apoorva spoke about her growing disillusionment with the influencer world and how the constant commercialisation has taken away the authenticity she once enjoyed. She said that the industry now feels more like a marketplace than a space for creativity.

Talking about her experience on The Traitors and the reactions that followed, Apoorva shared, “I have evolved a lot after The Traitors. When the show was released, I realised I had to enjoy this. I just wanted to have fun being a reality TV star, which helped me see everything objectively.”

She went on to add, “If there was a negative article about me, that’s iconic. I love it and want more of it. People pay to get a news article about them. I don’t even have to move my finger, and there is a news article about me. It’s all like a circus now, and it’s about me. Imagine a very reputable channel putting me in the headline because that gets them clicks — that’s power.”

Known for her unapologetic take on internet fame, Apoorva admitted that while she enjoys the reach and recognition, she feels exhausted by the constant demand to stay relevant. “I want to retire from content creation. I have been doing it for too long, so I want to do something else. I am working on something else. If it pans out great, if it doesn’t, then I am always doing content,” she said, hinting at new ventures ahead.

Her remarks reflect a growing sentiment among influencers facing creative burnout. While Apoorva didn’t disclose her next step, her statement suggests she is ready to step away from the noise of the online world — at least for now.
