My dear Tripti and Loveanime,
I too love Rahim to bits, but I am afraid I do not agree with any of this, and for good reason;
Tripti dear, how does Jalal imagine that the
ulema who have, thanks to his lack of resistance, acquired the power to dethrone him, are going to accept his choice of a successor? Why would a
butparast Shahenshah who has been evicted for betraying Islam, be allowed to rule thru the back door via Rahim?
In fact, just as happened with Bairam Khan,
very soon after Jalal gave up the throne, he would have been murdered by Adham, to make sure that he did not come back somehow. That was a dead cert.
Te revert, Rahim? A 4 year old, whose father was one of the most hated men in the Mughal sultanate? How long does Jalal think Rahim would stay alive even if the
ulema accepted him as the heir? It seems to be such an ill-considered, kneejerk statement that one does not know what to make of it.
On another aspect of this takht tyaag, it was very irresponsible of Jalal to have caved in like that before the power of the clergy. There was, in that part of the scene, none of the fire with which he declares, just a little earlier, that if the maulvis had not been the custodians of the faith, he would have decapitated them on the spot.
In fact
he throws in the towel straightaway, and not only accepts that they have the right to dethrone him, but is ready to step down at once. This is simply unbelievable, that an emperor would be prepared to quit this throne, abandon his subjects, and leave them to suffer from all the chaos, instability, civil war and all that would follow in their wake, for the self indulgence of being seem to keep his word to his wife. This is not rajadharma in any form, it is the negation of it. A king should be prepared to suffer hellfire if necessary to protect his subjects, and here we have a Jalal who thinks of nothing but his own self-indulgent virtue.

That decision wasn't only because he loves Rahim! ๐That was a pure siyaasi maamlaa.
Rahim is a small child. Jalal's wife's foster son & also, Jalal's. He is what? Just 4 or at the most, 5? On the show. Him ascending the throne means Jalal's continued supremacy over Hindustaan & the Mughal sultanate . ๐
Jalal is too intelligent a man to throw around something as huge as this. If it would've come to Rahim ascending the throne, then, Jalal would've ruled in all but name till Rahim would've been 18. Which would be at the least, a good 10 years!
Then, they would've brain-stormed during those years to find a way for Jalal to retain the throne & be the Emperor.
From what we know of Rahim from history, and of course of Jalal, it would've worked wonderfully too. ๐

Another point just mentioned in passing but I thought it was huge and didn't get the reaction it deserved, did jalal announce rahim as his heir. I thought there should have been more focus on Adaham and Maham reactions. All the scheming that goes on it to get the throne for themselves, but if Jalal has a will and Rahim is his heir until he has a son of his own then what of their plan. Obviously I get that Rahim is a baby getting him killed would be too easy. I loved that they mentioned Rahim though he is such a lovely boy and and all interactions between Jalal baba and chotu Rahim has been so sincere. I am glad the wrtiers brought that in to show the importance of Rahim in Jalal's life.
