Part 4: Ek Naazar

Raja Bharmal allowed him to proceed, but only on one condition, that you will never break my daughter's heart again. Jalal, understanding the emotion replied, I will never break your daughter's heart, because before that I will have to break my heart.

With that Jalal proceeded to surprise Jodha...God how will she react, he thought...

Part 4: Ek Naazar

As he slowly climbed the stairs to reach the terrace area, his heartbeat increased with each step. Being a shehenshah, he never felt this nervous about anything or anyone. Gosh, he thought, what have I gotten myself into? The matters of heart can never be understood.

As he finished climbing the last step, he could see Jodha, with her back facing him, playing with some birds. She was petting them and then setting them free. In this process, he heard her mumbling something. With a lot of caution he took a few more steps to get closer and hear what she was saying.

Ma bhi na! Itna sub hone ke baad bhi, mujhe unke swaagat me ane ko bolne rahi hain. Main kyun unka swaagat karu? Itna sub hone ke baad, unho ne humse ya humare bhaiyo se mafi nahi mangi...itna kathor aur bedard kaun ho sakta hai?

Listening to her words, Jalal could feel that she has not forgiven him yet, or is even close to forgiving him. He thought that he will have to say the words that he has never told to anyone. He will have to say those three words or his rani will never melt. Gosh, why are women so complicated...muhjshe kehti firti hain ke hume apse grinha hain and aur aap jaisa beraham aur koi nahi aur phir maafi ki aash bhi hain. His thoughts were quickly interrupted when, the pigeons started making a lot of noise and flew away.

Suddenly he felt a pair of two eyes, set on him. They belonged to none other than Jodha. She was intensely staring at him, accusing him through his looks for intruding her privacy.

She questioned him, aap yahan kaise?

Jalal - who kehte hain na...ki koi cheese shiddat se chaho to puri kaynat use doodhne pe lag jati hain. Apki ki ammi ne kaha ki appko dundhe le, to humne unki baat ka maan rakha. Theek kiya na humne?

Jodha - Aapko kaisi pata chala ki hum yahan hai?

Jalal - Apki chaabi dekh le paani mein... who kya haina Jodha, jo cheeze hume pasand aa jaye...aur uspe hamara dil ajaye to hum use dundhe ke hi rahate hain.

Jodha - Aap yahan kyun aye hain?

Jalal - Hum apko lene aye hain Jodha! Aap chalengi ne hamare saath?

Jodha - Nahi! Hum apke saath nahi jayenge...hum apne aur behzaadti nahi she sakte.

Jalal - Lekin Jodha, hum ne apke ma-baap se ijjajat le li hain. Unhe koi appapti nahi hain. To phir apko kyun?

Jodha - Hume aap pe bharosa nahi hain...kya pata..kal ko aap hume kisi aur ilzaam me kaid karde? Ek baar ki hui bhool hum wapas nahi dhorayenge apki tarah

Jalal - Jodha, humne kaunsi bhool ki?

Jodha - Apne hum pe do baar joothe ilzaam lagaye hain, yeh kya kum hain. Hum aap par bharosa nahi kar sekte, isilye hum wapas agra nahi jayenge.

Jalal - Jodha, hume behad ufsoos hain ki humne aap ke saath is tarah ka vyvahar kiya. Hume apse mafi chahate hain Jodha! Kya aap hume maaf kar sakti hain? (There he said, he thought)

Jodha - Humne jo kehdiya so kehdiya.

Jalal- Jodha yeh mut bhuliye ki hum apke shohar hain. Agar hum chahe to apko jabardasti le challenge agra, lekin hamara dil hume manzoori nehi deta. Lekin ek cheeze hum saaf bata dete hain ke, jis insaan pe humara dil agaya hai, us insaan ko hum itna jaldi kho bhi nahi sakte aur uske bina hum agra nahi jayenge. To yeh tay huwa ki, ab hum tabhi agra jayenge jab aap hamare saath chalengi. Tab tak, hum yahi aap ke saath rehenge. Hum aapke saath rahe ya aap hamare saath, baat to ek hi hai na Jodha?

Then Jalal, approached Jodha and whispered near her ears, agar apne gor na kiya ho to humne apni dil baat apko bata di hain, ab hum apka intezaar karenge.

This gesture of Jalal, amused and perplexed Jodha. She was not expecting such closeness. She was a bit shocked with the whole sequence of things.

Seeing her motionless, Jalal, recomposed himself and smiled and retreated back to the stairs to join the others.

Jodha just stood there, watching him go down and mingle with his family. She tried to rewind the whole conversation to find out what exactly he meant by his dil ki baat'...when she went pale as realization struck her that Jalal, had said that he has a 'dil' and it is set on her.

Does he really mean those words or is he trying to coax her into going to Agra to play more games? Thought Jodha, who was finding it hard to believe the new reality.

That's it for tonight! I am thinking of writing a couple more chapters and closing this SS, as if I continue it won't be a short story then...lol...Hope you enjoyed reading it, I had fun typing the conversation in hindi. Please be kind enough and forgive any spelling or linguistic errors.
