To the thrilling background music of 'Akbar' we get to see a handsomely grim Jalal standing all by himself in palace pathways at night. He'd been summoned by MA.
Basically, she wasn't impressed by Jalal's leniency towards Raja Bharmal - he was just as culpable. Therefore, she gives him an earful!
It does the trick. His temperature rises in accordance with his Badi Ammi's increasing accusations against the Bharmal household.
(However, the precap scene we'd witnessed from yesterday - illtreatment of Bharmal - was only Jodha's nightmare!đ The girl is in a sorry state now)
Court
Its been ages since we'd seen a court scene.
A Wailing old Rajput had entered the court room seeking justice - his only son had been murdered. Needless to say, this touches Jalal's raw nerve!
Apparently, the man's son was a farmer in a village where some dacoits had been causing issues 'They barged into our village...looted my house and killed my son...I've just cremated him' the man sobs
'I understand your pain' Jalal replies - recollecting past incidents 'There's nothing worse than having to lose one's own son...you'll get your justice...' he roars aloud 'Who are your culprits...and who in charge of your area'
'The dacoits are our culprits...but, Sujanpur's King is Bhavani Singh and his son prince Ratan Singh...' the man states 'Instead of protecting us, they shelter the dacoits'
'Sujanpur has become the house of dacoits..no one questions them...they loot everyone in broad daylight!' another villager adds
Jalal is deep in thought now. Obviously, the names ring a bell - this was the very Rajput family into which Bharmal's daughter was getting married. An apt opportunity presented itself for Jalal to avenge his loss!
Jalal-Jodha
While Jodha is sobbing over her cursed fate and the illtreatment of her father, she hears the 'disturbing' announcement of Jalal's entry into her chamber.
He slowly enters in and stands tall - right opposite to her.
'Do you know what gives me most pleasure?' he picks a tear off her cheek and stares at the drop of water in his finger 'When my enemies shed tears of pain...' he continues 'I don't want you to waste your tears now...because I have something terrible to tell you now...if you use up all your tears now, how will you express your sorrow then?'
'Have you done something to my Bapusa?' she trembles
'Don't be afraid Jodha' Jalal explains 'He has neither been killed nor imprisoned...he's staying back as a guest...with all luxuries at his service...'
He pauses momentarily 'However, when his children are in trouble...he'll suffer...and even if he was in heaven then, he wouldn't be able to be happy!'
While Jodha starts quivering in rage, Jalal goes on to spew all his hatred against her family - and how it would make them realize how much they'd tortured him.
Once finished, he starts walking around the room regally 'Anyway, I am going to Sujanpur now...but, not to attend your sister's engagement'
He leans his leg against a table 'I'm going there to destroy it!'
Jodha is appalled!
'Don't do this...you are angry with me...then why are you spoiling my sister's life...she's done nothing to you'
'My child had done nothing to you either' he yells back 'You should have avenged me, why did you kill my child?'
'You are an emperor...you should know that no one is labelled a criminal or punished till there's proof...you have given me 10 days...' she reminds him amidst tears
'There is a political reason for this' he smirks cynically. He then goes on to explain to Jodha about the problems the city was facing 'They've sheltered dacoits...and that is against Mughal Sultanat's law...the punishment for this DEATH'
He then lets out an evil laugh 'What co-incidence Jodha...these days all back-stabbers seem to be related to you somehow or other!'
She begs him not to punish her father. However, he has nothing less than a plastered grin on his face as she grovels in front of him.
'Kill me if it satisfies you' she declares
'If I kill you now, who shall I punish...I will torture you to such an extent that you'll wish death upon yourself...'
'This is not right...you're punishing Sujanpur only because they're related to us'
'Assume whatever you have to...because it makes no difference to me...no one can interfere with my decisions'
His hands behind his back in characteristic fashion - Jalal leaves her alone to her anguish!
MA and her gang trying to investigate the clues (and finding none) is still a positive step.
Also, Ruqaiyya states that she suspects everyone - chalo forum waasis at least the investigation is going on!
Jalal-Bharmal
Jalal informs Bharmal and co about the Sujanpur issue - though Bharmal initially protests (for Sukanya's sake), Jalal eventually has all the 'legal' right to do as he pleased - especially with the dacoit issue coming into play here. The downcast family are able to say/do nothing!
Infact, the callous Jalal (how sexily cruel is heđ) goes a step further and even asks Bharmal to provide the regiments for the war - the very regiments Jalal had loaned him during the wedding (What a way to defeat/tongue-tie Bharmal)
'But if I do this Sukanya's alliance will be broken off' Bharmal pleads
'Which alliance is more important to you?' Jalal questions Bharmal 'THAT which has not even been formed yet...or THAT which has already been formed with me? Jodha is also your daughter, right? The decision is your's king - which daughter do you want to support?'
PRECAP - 'I hate myself for being married to you..'Jodha tells Jalal - her eyes looked swollen here 'A man who is capable of rejoicing in another's tragedy!'
My thoughts -
Jalal going to war now makes a lot of sense to me...the makers have thought this out well...
Jalal now had a logical enough reason to go to war
The co-incidence was well thought of i.e. the Sujanpur-dacoit-Ameri connection
Showed off Jalal's cruel yet calculative side
Allowed him to avenge his loss
Was a good test for the Ameri family (we'll possibly get to see Jalal realizing during the course of the war that the Ameris weren't as bad as he'd thought them out to be!)
Also, the war would be a welcome distraction from Harem and court...we've never seen RT wield the sword in the field yet have we?
