thanks for the information.

I was wondering the same, Jalal was far more intelligent and smart so why didn't he try to learn to read and write!

Yes, that's true. But it didn't really matter. You could call him an illiterate but not uneducated. He maintained a huge library. He had those texts read out to him. He really had great thirst for knowledge.
