The title more or less sums up today's episode, and before we get into that, one has to applaud the CVs, or rather the editors who decide the precaps, for bowling such a sly googly at us last night. It had all of us clean bowled, as it slithered thru our guard and uprooted the leg stump😉.

Half the forum was breathless over that precap, interpreting it as Jodha rebuffing Jalal, and speculating feverishly as to how harshly he would react. Even I was bamboozled into taking it at face value, as an attempt by Jalal to get up close and personal with his lawfully wedded wife, and I was moved to assert that he would never force himself on any woman, even a wife he wanted to tame.

When the telecast came, we were all caught flat footed😉. Alas for all our agonies of apprehension! It turned out that it was

- an attack by Jodha with that khanjar, yes, but on what she took to be an intruder, not on her patidev, and

- Jalal was there not to make amorous advances to her, but to berate for not presenting herself when he had summoned her to sing for him, with his entourage present,

- Jalal did hurt his hand on that khanjar, but thereby hangs yet another tale.

The scene itself was sheer viewing pleasure. There was Jalal, fuming at having been stood up by his newly minted wife in front of his courtiers, barging into her khema, prepared to haul her over the coals for disrespecting her husband and not fulfilling her marital vows. Two minutes later, though she is trembling with nervousness and her breath is ragged in her throat, Jodha has managed to put her lord and master on the defensive, moving him to concede Bahut khoob! Hum to aapke pas apni shikayat lekar aaye the, par aapne to humein hi mujrim tehra diya!

She does this by lecturing him fluently on the need to put his patni's maan aur sammaan ahead of his rights on her, and about how no vow that she had taken permitted him to ask her to appear in front of outsiders, to treat a wife like a dasi or to use force on her. And she does all this with Jalal barely one foot away, leaning over her in a manner that would intimidate the most courageous of women. Atta girl, I said to myself, you deserve a standing ovation!

It is to Jalal's credit that, despite being very angry with Jodha as he enters, he does not rage at her mindlessly but seeks to argue his case by reminding her of her marriage vows. Later, he accepts Jodha's lecture and admonition in good part, and does not try to bully her. This says much for his sense of fairness, even towards a woman against whom he harbours several grudges. This innate sense of justice bodes well for the rest of his reign.

Probably it was also a novel experience for him to have a woman conquering her fear of him, arguing her case against him with all the coherent logic of a lawyer, and winning it too. That he does not resent it, as most men would have, but is moved to reluctant admiration, also says a lot about him as he is now, even without having had the benefit of Jodha's haivaan se insaan magic that we have been promised from Day 1.

But of course there is the male ego, and this one is an imperial ego. So, he gets back at her by commenting, approvingly, on the all too evident fear in her eyes about what he might do next. And while leaving, after reassuring her that she need fear no one and nothing as he is there to protect her from every danger, he adds, with a wolfish grin of malicious delight, Par aapko mujhse bachane ke liye - a deliberate pause, and then Koi nahin! It hits bullseye, as we can see from Jodha's ashen face as she sits up in bed. She looks even better when she is frightened, by the way.

Chicken con trick: This one was side splitting, that is if you were not Jodha. Having felt obliged, as a dutiful wife, to feed Jalal a chicken leg with her own hand - which he promptly holds firmly with his sound (!?!) one- not to speak of then washing his fingers and wiping them, Jodha emerges to find out that it was all a con trick, which Jalal makes sure she does not miss.

Rajat/Jalal was superb in his foxiness, the veiled sideways glances at Mahaam Anga (for her to make sure that Jodha sits next to him on the dais), at the servants, and at Jodha herself, pointedly not seeking her help, by word or gesture, as he apparently struggles to pick up the chicken leg. Then, out front, the deliberate brashness with which he cuts thru the fake bandage, and then hefts his shamsheer with the practiced ease of an expert swordsman. (I am really looking forward to the Jalal-Jodha fencing match, which is bound to materialize somewhere down the line).

It is pure mischief, free of malice, of the kind a naughty boy would play, and Jalal obviously no longer holds her refusal of the previous evening against her. As he goes off, he is very pleased with himself, while Jodha must be promising herself that never again will she be so taken in. Famous last words, for the next time, it will be something entirely different and unexpected.

Till, of course, they reach a stage when he does not have to trick her into holding his hand.

Arrival in Agra: Jodha has found a true blue guardian angel in Hamida Banu Begum, which was of course expected. This is preceded by a flashback to Umarkot when Jalal was born, with an adorable baby Jalal, and a prediction that he would one day unite the Mughals and the Hindus. So for Hamida Banu, Jodha is a good omen, like the comets in old times .

She is in ecstasies over Jodha's loveliness - Jalal smiles with proprietary pride at this point, while Mahaam Anga looks as if she has bitten a particularly sour lemon😉, especially when Bakshi Banu, in a welcoming ritual for the new bride, sweetly washes her bhabhijaan's feet in milk.

The lemon seems to grow even more sour when the Hindu dasis, mobilized by the Malika-e-Azam's Girl Friday, sing a Rajasthani welcome song fo Jodha. .A moment later, one can practically smell the smoke coming out of Mahaam Anga's ears when Hamida Banu informs her that she need only prepare Jodha's rooms (in the harem) and she will personally escort her bahu over the palace and show her the harem as well.

This is just as well, for even with Hamida Banu's sympathetic and reassuring introduction to the harem, including a little paean of praise for Jalal's sense of responsibility in having all the women in the harem looked after well, the set up there was bound to come as a major shock for Jodha. She is so taken aback by the hordes of assorted, squabbling females, whose varied origins and status are explained by Hamida Bani with the insouciance of one used to such things, that when asked why she did not want to marry Jalal, she blurts out that one cannot want to marry a man with no daya and no dil. A dubious assertion, for any number of females would do anything to get a hard-hearted, heartless emperor, but apni Jodha is not one of them.

The no dil reference sets Hamida Banu off on her pet theme of saving Jalal's soul, and she voices her hope that Jodha, now that she is here, will help Jalal find his lost dil, while Jodha looks politely incredulous. She however recollects her manners, and refrains from voicing her firm conviction that Jalal has not lost his dil, as he never had one to lose!

Ruqaiya, as brashly confident as ever about being able to manage both Jalal and his new 'toy', of which she is certain that he will tire soon, affects indifference towards the new arrival. It remains to be seen if the Queen of the harem maintains this self-confidence after she takes a look at Jodha. Meanwhile, Mahaam Anga, rattled by the special treatment given to the Hindu Begum, is almost sure to try and recruit Ruqaiya for a stymie-Jodha operation.

The precap: The next storm breaks when Jalal, interpreting Jodha's singing an ode to Rajput valour and their code of honour (this time acceptably, in the harem, to a female audience bar a bunch of assorted maulvis) as a veiled insult to himself and the Mughals, reacts furiously. I do not propose to get worked up about that, for there will be a zillion such scenes to come, and I have no intention of getting my blood pressure up about any of them.

I just want to know when the Krishna mandir is up and running, so that we can have that scene of Jalal coming in when Jodha is singing a bhajan and looking even lovelier than when she is scared, and accepting prasad from her. It will come, never fear!

I will pass over that pointless scene of the middle-aged looking Kunwar Pratap of Mewar berating the hapless Sujamal for his treachery, while lauding Jodha for having become a human sacrifice to Jalal the Jallad. And the one of a weepfest in Amer bemoaning the absence of Jodha.

So the only thing left is to pat myself on the back for having, for once, correctly predicted that the nek that Jalal would give young Mansingh would be to take him with himself to Agra and make him a great warrior.

Mansingh, who has apparently not yet learned to smile, responds in a dampening fashion to this flattering invitation, making it clear that he is ready to come to Agra only to protect his buasa (it is not clear from whom, especially when she has the Mughal Emperor and half the Mughal army to do this job). He seems to be a gravely impertinent child, who is unaware of his impertinence and not in the least in awe of the Emperor, which is probably while the latter is so taken with him.

Jalal is going to have his hands full handling not only affairs of state but, and far more difficult, his recalcitrant Begum, and her pocket edition, Mansingh, as well😉. One wishes him luck, for he is going to need it! It might be a rather far fetched comparison, but if one took this as a Tom and Jerry affair, no prizes for guessing who would be Tom😉!

Lastly, when Bharmal wished to send Bhagwan Das with Mansingh (it is not clear whether this is to be permanently or only for the journey to Agra, especially seeing that Bhagwan Das is Bharmal's designated successor), the funniest sight of the day was Mahaam Anga's face. She was obviously appalled at the prospect of still more Amervasis invading the Agra palace😉!

By the way, where are Bhagwan Das and Mansingh in Jalal's entourage on the way to Agra? Or at Agra either? Nowhere that I could see, except for a Rajput-like figure in the precap.

Awesome job!

Really well thought out! First of all I'm upset with everyone thinking jodha is the bad guy in the tent situation. It was an accident and If the guy who got attacked is okay with it then we should be too, it was just instinct on her part.

Secondly, everyone seems so pissed off that she sang a Rajput song! I'm pretty sure Jodha did not grow up singing songs of Mughals and how awesome they are. Maybe that's the only one she knows, and like someone mentioned in the live update forum...she is not a GODAMN PARROT. Jalal is acting like a child way more then jodha was! It shocks me how people on this forum are telling her to suck it up...ugh hello? Seriously *Facepalm* okay I get it RT is hot I wouldn't mind being forced into marriage with him either okay but girls close your eyes and imagine being married to SHARIFUDDIN...you wouldn't like it would you? Lol I hope you get what I'm trying to say ( the actor is pretty good looking okay and I loved how he shaved)

Oh good lord that Harem is a gongshow! I had a headache watching those two fight over clothes. I'm sorry I would not be able to live with all those women

Seriously - big applaud to Jodha on making Jalal the culprit when he came to blamer her! Ruqaiya understands Jalal so well, Jodha is a new toy for him. The only reason she holds his interest is her pride and beauty. The more he tries to get her pride down, the more she will rise and he will fall in love...I can't wait for those scenes either - the krishna prasad and sword fight and may be horse ride together.

Thank god they are showing 1 hr telecast, would have died waiting for the story to unfold. So much happened this week..Thanks for an excellent view!

I was waiting for your post today Aunty!
Agree with everything you said- Jodha's passiveness, her regality, really shone through today, especially if you compared it to the antics of the other Rajputs- who were in turn, too bombastic and too weepy.
I enjoyed Jalal and Jodha's back and forth today, but was surprised by Ruq's dismissal of Jodha- yes, it could be that Jalal has a new toy, but this new toy is Hindu, which has never happened before- is that not a matter for little concern? Her "I've always taken care of Jalal's toys" harkens back to the shared history between the two, but with the inclusion of Jodha, Ruq will, in some way, shape, or form, be taking a backseat. And I for one, am not sorry for it, because Lavinia does not bring to the role the subtle nuances and tones Smiley did. Just as well, it would not do for a soap to generate too much sympathy for the first wife, especially if the second is being promoted as the protagonist!
What are your thoughts on Sharifuddin? I can't get a bead on his expressions. On the one hand, some suggest that he is loyal to Jalal, with not a thought in his head for sedition. Yet others, especially when he smiles at Jodha, seem to being laying the seed for sedition, especially with Sharif coveting her. Or am I reading too into it? Your thoughts?

Good Afternoon Shyamala Aunty, (or rather Good Night...),

1) If I was going to score today''s episode, its 4 points for Jodha, 1 point for Jalal...As a total for Mon - Thurs, i think Jalal is slightly up ahead by almost equal, AND after tomorrow's episode I have a feeling Jodha is going to be EQuAL in which battles she has won to Jalal...

Jodha was excellent in that Jalal never saw it coming that she asked for her own tent to be erected. Abos**tely EXCELLENT forsight for our Jodha...

Jodha was also amazing in refusing to attend to Jalal's request / order for her to sing. She was eloquent and fabulous in her dialogue delivery. wonderful Job Paridhi...

Jodha - she wins another point IMO for touching Jalal at breakfast without flinching and taking care of what she needed to do even if she was tricked into it. Making him wait to eat his breakfast comes into this point as well...

And last point for her...the tent scene...amazing. Putting him in his place on how to treat his wife, excellent.

I think the reason why the tent scene didn't go any further is because they have had the Islamic ceremony yet for the marriage...So Jalal should not consider himself truly married until that is complete...although for Jodha things are all done on her end...

So as for Suhaag Raat...it wasn't really in this episode...IMO.

Great analysis as usual. Can't wait for tomorrow...however its out last 60 min episode...:(

Again ! Lovely post !

So someone understands the precap like me ! Lol
Those last lines of jodha singing there is no cheat- deciet in Rajput blood is an indirect insult to Mughals and I think Jalal will be more angry since she does this in front of all !
I loved jodha today as much as Jalal since today she didn't go hyper or so and quietly fed him and helps him keeping her hatred aside behaving with dignity and sincerity ! 👍🏼 plus the tent scene obviously ! She was a true queen worthy of Jalal today ! ;)
Lol but Jalal acting it out was a total shocker ! I thought he was showing off how he can use a sword with a hurt arm until he clenched his hands and motibai clarified it was a facade ! 😆

I Love your title a lot today hahaha !

Let's see what Jalal does for the Mughal insult ! Sigh !

Shyamala Aunty how do you do it?U never cease to amaze me with your awesome post. One day i hope to be as intelligent as you.You do have a way with words and put them in such an excellent post.Thank you for being here and making JA forum that more awesome👏⭐️.
No Suhaag Raat today at all.Cvs fooled us with that precap but i am not disheartened at all.We have got plenty of time to make up for that😉.
Today's episode was a game of pass the ball.
Ball in Jodha's court:
She made sure there was separate tent made for her. That was a blow to Jalal. She had the guts to order for her own tent and she was married to the Emperor.Jodha made sure there was distance between them for now but for how long??I dnt know if she knew it as him or not but i think she had to have known it was Jalal because who else would dare to enter her tent at that time of night.
Ball in Jalal's court-
He made sure and show no hesitation to remind her that as his wife she has a right to fulfil all her duties to him.If he wants her now then she should be there in front of her...no time for hesitation.
He assured her she would be safe when he is around but who will save her from him??Oh Kanha where are you??Jodha hurting Jalal physically is not the problem here. She can cut him all she want but if she only bruise his over sized ego then that is even worst than a physical injury..
Jalal made sure Jodha's little dagger performance will cost her in the future.
Ball remains in his court-
This mischievous and naughty man made sure he got back at her for hurting him.His pretence wasn't overlooked by MA at all.She knew exactly what he was doing. With time Jodha will learn to observe Jalal's nuances very well.I dnt know if Jodha is vegetarian or not but she held the chicken with no disgust.Jalal never breaks his fixed stare at her while she doesnt even look at him.She is down but she aint out Jalal...you and the rest of people underestimating this queen are going to eat your words very soon.
Ball in Jodha's court:
The stage is all hers now.Tit for tat.Jalal think he will get away.U strike Jalal and she will strike back.I am reading many ppl are outraged by what she didn but what was she going to sing.Maybe she should have sung a song about how much she hated the Mughal instead of praising her clan.Would that be enough for them??
And Jalal why are you so shocked and angry. You told her to sing and she sung what she wanted.Dnt stop her now when you were the one to put her in that predicament in the first place.
Feed her honey she will sing melodiously to you.Feed her pepper she will spit fire at you.
Where is the ball now??In Jodha's court or Jalal's.Only time will tell.
PS I loves Hamida Banu and Jodha's interaction today. They looked adorable together.Hamida will help Jodha to peel off Jalal's layers one by one.Jodha will get to witness MA' hold on Jalal and Hamida's importance to him.

Lovely post as always Shyamla aunty . Treat to read .

Ok coming to the episode the Bidayi scene at Amer was nothing to analyse not was interesting to see . Still it was necessary to show as it was Jodha's final good bye from her clan . I loved the song that played in the backgroung during the Bidayi scene .

Little Mr . MaanSingh did not seem to be really surprised when Jalal proposed to take him to Aagra , It seemed that he almost knew it'd come , lol . I like the kid though , cute n brave looking . One thing , Bhagwant Daas looks a bit young to be the father of 14-15 year old MaanSingh . He looks 33-34 at highest .

Maham looked ROYALLY pissed when Jalal agreed on BhagwantDaas's coming to Aagra . She was probably saying in her mind , "Is the whole family planning to settle in Aagra ? "

Btw , where is our dear Chugtai Khan ? After all he was the to suggest this marriage alliance on the first . He was the one to gave road direction to the stupid king Bharmal when he was feeling utterly helpless in the claw of sharifuddin .

I did not like that Jalal called Jodha to sing before absolute outsiders , doesn't matter even if they are court people , waazirs etc etc .. They are yet to reach Aagra , not 1 complete day had passed since their hindu wedding took place n he started to play games with Jodha ??!! Not Fair Jalal !

Totally lovved Jalal's fuming face when he was informed that Jodha was staying in her separate camp . But , seriously , did he actually think that Jodha would share his tent ? When he send Maham to bring Jodha in front of him I went all worried . I though as Jodha is subdued in pain n numb in shock it'll be easy for MA to just pull her out of her tent .

But , thank god , I was worrying for nothing as Maham returned after a bit all alone . Even our great shahenshah ji was startled , provided he walked at the entry of the tent expecting his begum would meekly follow her Bari Ammi .

But alas ( *makes gleeful face * )his expectation did not fulfill as dear Ammijaan put forth the information that his begum is resting n refused to follow her Shauhar's order .

A visibly livid Jalal marched off to give Jodha a bit of his ( boliing no doubt ) mind , followed by loyal ( I suspect it 🤔 ) Sharifuddin .

BUT ! Yes ! But'when he entered her khema n saw a emotionally drenched n physically exhausted Jodha trying to get some sleep'there went a subtle change in his expression , his face became some how soft . He was totally nihaaring his bride while moving at her bed stealthily . Was he expecting her to wake up or was he planning to wake her up by playing some mischief'we would never know . But Jodha woke up ( She was just dozzing off I think ) n grabbed the khanjar gifted by her brothers .

Loved , loved , lovvved , absolutelu loved the way he grabbed the knife n NOT HER HAND ! That'd have been physical , hot , but ' oh-so-predictable ' .

He closed down on her n asked an explanation in his deliciously menacing ( n sexy ) voice for her utter disobidience to her husband . He reminded her of all the marriage vows she ( n only she ) took not so long ago about doing all her wifely duties . At her shocked silent expression , he also mocked that why she was silent when she was spitting fire the other day , talking badly of him .

Hatts off to Jodha ! In this impossibly weird situation the girl did not loss her cool . Infact , she rised to the occasion n gave Jalal a small but sound lecture about an wife's duties n a husband's rights .

Jalal was bemused , impressed . He understood it'd be difficult to ' tame ' Jodha as he wants to'but for the same reason he thought it'd be an enjoyable ride .

Well , let him enjoy his dreams for now ! We have no problem .

Continuing in my next post'

As always, your post is awesome! Today's episode was pretty entertaining minus the Sujamal scene (didn't know what was going on there). I am really looking forward to seeing Jodha's and Ruquiya's first meeting. Wonder if they will meet tomorrow 🤔.

Continuing...

Loved the way Jodha n Jalal's prayer scenes were shown with contrast . Point to be noted , unlike the movie...here Jalal did hear jodha singing krishna bhagan , but was not effected by it .

Aha ! Jodha kept Jalal , sharifu n Maham waiting at the breakfast platter . 🤣 Very good Jodha ! ( sorry I'm being childish here )

It was surprising , yet very nice to see that Jodha did not flinch for a second when Jalal took her hand when she was helping her to eat . All the time his eyes were set on her ( gorgeous ) face but Jodha was decidedly looking down . 😆 No meeting his eyes .

It was interesting to see even after Jalal's very convincing ' I can not hold the chicken , my palm is hurt because of you 'act Jodha was coming forward to help him . She initiated only after Motibai's suggestion to help .

I found it odd that Maham had a smile on her lips when Jodha was feeding Jalal , washing n cleaning his hands etc . Why ? Shouldn't she feel angry that this hindu princess in getting ( or trying to get ) close to Jalal ? Shouldn't she be bothered seeing Jalal liking her proximity ?

I thought Maham would be more intelligent than this . Some warning bells on her brain should've rang at that point . She should , of all her person...understand that Jodha is not a mere fascination or game of Jalal , but some thing much much more ?

Anyway , never ever I thought Jalal's palm was perfectly alright n it was pure nautanki on his part to make Jodha...What ? 😕 Touch him ? Feed him ? 😕 What game point Jalal scored here somebody please tell me ?

But it was really naughty of Jalal to do so n he left with a broad grin 😆

Maharanapratap-Sujamal scene - I did not consider it as a waste of screen space as I was having the time of the day during the whole scene . Was laughing so hard that I got belly-ache afterwards ! I take these MP scenes here as pure comic relief ( Nothing against the actor I've , let me clarify 😳 ) . It's just the way he talks at a mail-train speed , without taking a pause..his lips move so fast ! And his broom brush mustache does not make him very impressive either .

So , now I quite look forward to his scenes , as I seldom get such jaw-breaking ' difficulty taking breath ' laughs .
