Gargi my dear,
Your impassioned arguments are so appealing that at times I forget where I do not agree with them.!
It is the same now. You should have been, and perhaps were, an orator in ancient Rome, before the Caesars came along.
I was in bad shape last night, for on top of my bandaged wrist, I also had red, watering eyes from what looks to be a solid case of conjunctivitis, I literally dragged myself across the finishing line even later than usual because of that, and that probably made me a tad harsher than I would otherwise have been about Jodha yesterday. But only a little.
I have already written against her father hiding the truth from her till it revealed itself, and argued that this would not have resulted in her refusing, given her commitment to Amer, but would have given her more time to adjust herself mentally to the horrendous prospect. And I would grant all your arguments about it being a horrendous prospect for her.
But now I am not sure she would not have refused, for her sense of priorities is not what one would have expected from a Rajput princess of her times. And her father simply could not have risked it.
I did not like it that because of her unforgivable lack of self control in burning that joda, she heedlessly endangered all of Amer. I did not like her exclusive pre-occupation with her own miseries, and neglect of all else, There are sacrifices and sacrifices, and committing
jauhar, leaving the ordinary populace to the tender mercies of Sharifuddin and Adham Khan when there IS an alternative that can save them, is not courage, but the opposite. It is a copout, and is also very selfish.
I like women to be stronger than men. Yesterday, Jodha behaved like a petulant and irresponsible young woman, when she could have been a pattern card for calm dignity and the courage of endurance under fire.I was disappointed in her, and I do not like being disappointed in women. Men do not matter so much to me when they fail.
There, that is as much as my system can take right now, so bye till tonight/early tomorrow morning, unless of course I have to wait til tomorrow morning because my eyes are gummed together by midnight and will not open!😉
Affectionately,
Shyamala Di {/QUOTE]
Now you did it Shyamala di, I swear I'm officially going to file a case against JA forum of IF for messing up with your health like this ! 😡 Obviously you're not taking enough care of youself. N my mean mindedness does not allow me to look beyond a person's health , not even the happiness one gains from his/her pastime pursuits.
Opinions may differ , that's exactly what makes opinions beautiful. Allow me to confess , our differing opinions often force me to think it from your eyes n I often find that neither of us are wrong, rather both are right in our own places I daresay , in our own places.
I confess I've no where near as much knowledge of politics as you've , I'm hardly any good with it, 😆 , therefore your experience n your opinions are rock solid in those cases, but I do endeavor to feel human heart ( not merely anatomical one , but the comic "heart" shaped one !! 😆 ) n feelings, n my opinions are always based on emotional point of view. But that's also not a bad thing either , because human beings are not ruled by the right/ wrong policy, they're emotional creatures and though they shouldn't , often their actions n decisions are solely led by emotion n emotion only. 😳
Having said that, I admit that Jodha is not perfect, but I love her character with every bit of her childlike immaturity n innocence , because that's exactly her flavor right now , had she been perfect, where was the scope for improvement ? What'd they show for 500 episodes of JA , a perfect Jodha ? Wouldn't it be a bit difficult for common people to connect with her ? They need to show Jodha's journey too. The story is not about Jalal , the show is not about Akbar the great, it's a show of Jodha n Jalal, n therefore both of their characters should have defects so that there's some scope for character development.
That's exactly why they're showing this flicker of immaturity in Jodha now n then, so that later perhaps her maturity can be even more enjoyable for us ! The fruit of patience always tastes sweeter than a ready made one , isn't it ?
N Shyamala di, be warned , next I come to know you're not allowing yourself enough rest n enough care of your health , I'm gonna find out your address n barge at your door like a hopeless good-for-nothing busy body medico, so that I can nag you enough into acquiescing to follow a rigid health regimen, because as I said, you're invaluable for us.
Please take care maam n get well soon. Virtual bouquet of flowers for you.
