Ah the solace your words provide, I hope you are resting the lovely wrist of yours, as much as we enjoy the splendor of your words we value your health way more, Oh Great bard. Poetry in motion - that should be thy tag line.
Jalal, The Great Emperor of Hindustan- lets take a moment and finally acknowledge this great man who has truly come of age. A Supremo in control of his actions, thoughts and power. It is fascinating to watch the making of one of the greatest Emperors of India. RT is the Jalal there are no two ways about it. Such a fabulous character to play in a women-centric medium.
Jalal as an Emperor is cool, collective and wise beyond his years. He understand the pulse and the mind of his enemy so well, like a predator he assesses his prey , moves his pieces with shrewdness of the Grandmaster and of-course has the gumption of a political maverick. More than anything Jalal personified an Emperor who was not handicapped by his courtiers rather there stood a visionary who just wasn't satisfied by capturing the land , this shahenshah wanted to rule his Hindustan and its people. Jodha never stood a chance as before her stood not a possessed lover but an Emperor for whom Jodha was the collateral in the grand schemes of Hindustan.
When he received the burn Shaadi ka Joda, a part of him was enraged at the defiance of a mere girl, but good sense prevailed he didnt get swayed by his badi Aami, rather he coolly silenced the triology by stating that Rajputs are the men of their words hence they are in the typical in Catch-22. Marriage is the only solution and how his politeness and grace would ruin every chance of theirs for entering the list of worshiped Martyrs. Good move!
His greeting to Bhagwan Das and agreeing to meet Jodha was an act of utter amusement, he wanted to see a compromised Jodha . And then the two conditions, the way his eyes feasted on Jodha before the little minx tried to wriggle her way out of the matrimony using her religion as the shield. He stood up , marked his enemy , understood the game , smirked at Jodha's last ditch attempt at survival, coolly agreed to the two conditions winning him the confidence and respect of the Amer Palace as well as sending a signal to Jodha that no matter what he will own her.
He has finally stepped away from the shadows of Maham Angha, no more a child who relied on the whispering of the words of his Dayee Ma rather an Emperor who dismisses her by stating that he is the Shahenshah and whatever he says becomes the law yet indulging her enough to explain his actions. I feel he has a slight inkling of all the deeds done by Maham Angha, he just chooses to ignore it for now.But he is asserting himself more and more now.He has blossomed into his own beautifully without the looming shadow of Bharam Khan. It was defining strategy of respecting the Hindu culture which helped him consolidate his empire like never before. He understood Mughals need to stop being the foreigners and to acclimatize as locals they need to make good relations with the Rajputs and Amer in particular.
Maham Angha- I have started detesting her, don't know why but her persona is being cartoonish now. That Ektaish background and evil smile is so not becoming of those times. She is channeling all her frustrations on Jodha when slowly and surely Jalal is stepping away from the circle of her influence.
Jodha- She did exactly what I assumed. She is enraged by her hatred and fear to actually think straight. She has undergone many shocks in this small period- be-heading of her fiance , capturing of her brothers and now suddenly she has been chosen to share the bed with a man who has taken everything away from her. Of-course she is a Rajptani and hence she would rather die than compromise, this is why she is not exactly understanding why they must go for an alliance when they can reach the heavens by sacrificing themselves. She belongs to a time when these Afghan/Persian/mughals plundered and wrecked havoc on humanity so her fear and her utter detest for anything Mughal is understandable and justified. She has lived under the impression that Jalal is a heartless tyrant and even her own mother spoke about jawhar and gave poison to safeguard her honor.Right now she is shocked beyond her wits , betrayed by her family and perhaps she is the only one who knows what kind of fate awaits her in Agra. Her stand against mughals is exactly what Maharana Pratap had, Mughals can never be trusted.Like a true fighter she wanted to take a lone shot at her independence before she makes the deal with the devil. I would have been shocked if she would have willed herself easily for this marriage. What we forget is that she will be the first Hindu Princess to be married into the Mughal household, a culture unknown , people loathed she is the guinea pig for this cultural experiment of Jalal. For her two conditions were exactly what she thought a person like Jalal would object to, she believes him to be a fanatic villain yet she was taken aback by the masterstroke of the Mughal Ruler. Her burning of the shaadi ka joda signifies the relationship that is going to be between Jalal and her. She would fulfill the begum duties while getting her soul burnt. This is why I feel a more open conversation by her family with her on this issue , then she would have then atleast made an attempt to understand the situation and will herself for this fate. Her real character would actually come in the spotlight when she steps in the Agra fort.
No doubt the start of the show was Jalal and I am glad the makers have not made a caricature of his role. He is evolving without Jodha, becoming an Emperor he was meant to be. His forthright in respecting and understanding different culture would in a way carve the path for modern India.
Once again I remain enchanted by your words, Thank You for giving us an opportunity to read you.
