Thank you Ritzi, let us hope that things improve from now on as far as the historical part is concerned and not too many liberties are taken with the lead characters!

I am so pleased that we are both on exactly the same wavelength on all this!

I agree, one has greater expectations from a historical, but I have very limited expectations from Balaji, and for the first 2 episodes, my worst fears seemed to have been fulfilled! The curious thing is when it comes to films, Ekta Kapoor seems to do much better (though I have avoided the ones like The Dirty Picture). Perhaps it is because she gets better directors and they would insist on doing it their way.

Here she has a very good lead pair, and I hope things will go well from now on.Have you seen the Parvati of DKD Mahadev.? I could not help thinking that she would have made a splendid Jodha, but of course she would not be available. Bar her, this one seems to be a good choice, she has a serene dignity and occasionally a lot of sweetness, and then her troubled look when Jalal's face haunts her was very well done.

I only hope Jodha Akbar will not aim at 1000 episodes!😉

As you say, one cannot ask for the moon! The only really top quality Indian TV shows I have seen in recent years were all by YashRaj's TV division: Their 26 parter Powder, about the global and Indian drug trade, was better than any comparable US production with 20 times the budget. Then there was an official adaptation of Kane and Abel as Kismat, again only for 6 months and 64 daily episodes. It was only a little below Powder in quality, A couple of other good but lighter shows, but none of them did well, and Yashraj cut their losses and closed down their TV division. So you see, the Indian TV audience gets what it wants (or deserves) !

LOL the thing with her regular soaps is that I have no expectations...it's her fictitious world and she can ruin it as she pleases...she's devised her own formula and wants to stick by it...fair enough.

But with historicals, one can't help but have that sense of expectations with regards to how the characters are portrayed...because there is history attached to them...and that expectation of doing justice to that time period, culture in every way.

So in the case of Akbar, as you've rightly pointed out...he was born in Rajputana and had an early affinity and respect towards them unlike the version in the show which has shown Jalal as only being obsessed with making the Rajputana bow before him...

I agree with your point with regards to Jodha too...the shrill shrieking and repeated oaths about wanting Jalal's head were very over the top for me...but again that's typical Ekta treatment of what can otherwise be an engaging dramatic moment...she has to kill it by going over the top.

I think you're very right about the scriptwriters being unsure of how to portray Jalal since they want to play up Jodha's positivity and her ultimate reformatory role...because it shows in the inconsistency of scenes with regards to Jalal.

Oh well I've more or less resigned myself to swallowing the incongruities since I'm liking the work of the cast otherwise...if Rajat brings that sense of regality to Jalal, Paridhi is doing a good job as the dignified yet fiery Jodha too and they have an interesting chemistry developing.

You got it spot on, my dear. One waits for Rajat to come on screen, and that is what is called star quality.

I am glad you enjoyed this post.

I am tremendously flattered, but you quite alarm me!😉

I hope I do not end up like a totem on a pole! What I would like is for all of you to debate any or all the points in this or any future post I might put up, and we shall all have a lot of fun.

A very well written post ! 👏 would love to see you in the EDT too !

You are right! It's pretty evident that the scriptwriters aren't sure of what to show of Jalal on level of ruthlessness ! 🤔 it feels as if they just conveniently make him more hateful at times to give more credit to jodha to reform him later !

And DARN ! Ekta JUST knows how to pull people like me to her dramatic daily soaps and this one alike ! THE ACTORS - she MOSTLY gets them right ! 😆 she just gets people to watch her OTT stuff because you are a fan of the cast lol !

Like how u described the presence of RT, like AreYaar (anu) too said , he just has this regality in him ! How he stands, how he bends to pick the Payal still one hand intact behind in his royal posture ... And how paridhi has the dignity in her to portray jodha !
Like u said, I was in a nightmare state with the first two episodes , but everything just seems better and better with the entry of Jalal in amer and what played out later ! :D

Thanks a lot! I am so glad that you liked my analysis. I too have, against all my earlier expectations, got hooked on to Jodha Akbar.

But what is MB? I watch only 3/4 TV shows and so I am quite ignorant about most of them!
