This is where it gets tricky, most of the history I have read says that there was no figure named Jodha, in fact most agree that the rajput princess was most likely his daughter in law.

Lol I agree, I am watching this, but as a history nut myself do not care how they develop the love story since the general consensus among historians is that there was no epic love story and the role of Jodha is ambiguous and of no real importance to Akbar's rule.

I also am not a fan of the portrayal of Akbar, I feel the movie paid more homage in that domain. Rajat is doing a good job though, and this whole "kya Jodha bana paiyagi use insaan?" is annoying, since Akbar was always tolerant and even curious about all religions.

Yep, you are right. the whole "kya jodha bana payegi use insaan??" line WAS annoying.. Even if we agree that The kind of Akbar we know today is totally different from the person he was at his younger age, it's hard to accept that it was all because of Jodha's love. Because a person is transformed as a result of the effect of all that he has experienced in his life. And akbar had experienced a lot of things in his life even before he met jodha. anyway, Lets just hope the cv's handle the story carefully.😊

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mariam_uz-Zamani

There is no mention of any Jodha bhai in any of the books written by historians under Akbar's rule.

Also I have read nowhere that a certain rajput princess caused a change in Akbar, I shouldn't quote wiki because that is not a reliable historical source.

the all so great stories we have heard of akbar were after he turned 40 yrs old.

But until then, under the influence of bairam khan or not,he was just a driven force who only wanted to grab as much as he can

PROOF :

Third Jauhar of Chittor Emperor Akbar besieged the fort of Chittor in September 1567 Changing the strategy, Rana Udai Singh II Father of Rana Pratap , his sons and the royal women, using secret routes, escaped soon after the siege began. The fort was left under Jaimal Rathor and Patta Sisodia's command. One morning Akbar found Jaimal inspecting repairs to the fort which had been damaged by explosives, and killed him. That same day the Rajputs realized that defeat was certain. The Rajput women committed Jauhar in the night of February 22, 1568 AD, and the next morning, the Rajput men committed saka.Abul Fazl has given a true account of the event as seen by Akabar in his biography in 1568 AD.)

Jaimal and Patta were extremely brave. When rajput opened the gate of fort and perform saka ,the battle became so fiercy that Akbar army fled for a moment from the battlefield though they were large in numbers but returned soon as in the mean time they got help from Man singh(King of Jaipur) and his army and they captured the fort killing Jaimal and Patta .

Before dying Jaimal and Patta cursed Mansingh that just like he had destroyed their family-his kingdom will have no males to become a king. For those who are illusioned by the history books that Akbar was a good person will be surprised to know that after death of Jaimal and Patta, Akbar became very angry and frustrated even after win as he losses heavily in this battle in terms of money, force and time during this period of 4-5 months( when the fort was surrounded by his army and rajput often attack with gurilla war tactics) . To calm his anger he ordered his army to kill all the civilians.

About 25000 residents of Chittor were killed. Akbar was the very cruel and no less than Aurangzeb

thanks for the well researched reply.. By the way I must admit that the third jauhar of chittor was something which always made me question Akbar's generosity.

@bold: Have to agree on this bit... I am yet to watch the episode... but from the promos... this line was definitely annoying as Akbar was the most tolerant mughal emperor..even though we say that he became more tolerant after jodha's entry in his life, he defintely wasn't as jalad as he is portrayed in the promos..

I do feel that to focus more on the love story ...they are exaggerating Jodha's role in Akbar's life...

I just hope that the cvs remain true to the facts and no misinterpret the characters...

Will review the first episode after watching it 😊

Guyss as the disclaimer suggested ... The makers have no intention of portraying it as real historical facts...
I think we shud luk forward how this story gets unfolded..
...Rather then indulging into certain historical facts...
We shud analyze the depiction (fictional) of the show..
Just my POV...

Well it is also said that in his autobiography jahangir never once mentions the name of his mother. And it is also not sure that whether the rajput princess Akbar married who was later known as mariam-uz-zamani was indeed jodha or not??
