A short story? this actually happened to me just a few months back. Don't remember the exact time but it was a sunday and I was working on something at IF. felt like having some pop corn . So I took my coffee, put a sachet of popcorn into the microwave and pressed a wrong button i think. I was too engrossed in whatever I was doing and forgot all about it!!! Then suddenly I was coughing a bit, but did not pay much attention, then felt a little difficult to breathe. Still it did not strike me. Then,I looked up absent mindedly and found the whole place surrounded in black fumes. It was really bad.

Then it was a race to get things OK..lets just say it was one messy job and had a heavy chest and a sore throat for a couple of days.The microwave had to be chucked off and the house smelt of the charred pocorn for God alone knows how long !

If you are wondering why the alarm did not ring, well, the alarm has been neatly covered up and taped to stop it from complaining....it used to ring too often before so had covered it up...😆
