The moral quandary of having feelings for someone else while being married is a good angst trope. It's attractive since it is considered taboo.

I have been roommates with numerous Bengali people during my master's abroad and they were always very elegant and placed a lot of emphasis on education. I don't think the kind of things they showed in Ganjaland Ghum would have flown there. Same for Marathi shows.

If we consider that, I think in most other adaptations of Jhanak they may have or had, it will be either Ani accepting marriage with Jhanak from the get-go and leaving Arshi or Ani-Arshi looking for a partner together for Jhanak and Ani never falls in love with Jhanak if so. This is what happened to OG Adi-Imlie-Malini. Except for Bengali and Hindi(?) adaptations, others always ended up with Malini-Adi being supportive of Imlie's career and a new guy for her.

Also in OG Imlie it was Tejas who played Adi's role and Appu Dii who played Malini's role. Even there Adi was very possessive of Imlie and always used to doubt her. But Malini's baby was of someone she loved not Adi's child like it was here.

Bengali shows are actually very sensible and they also end at the right time. They don't keep dragging them for years till the story deterioriates!

May be for me its not enjoyable.

I mostly stop watching when the ml lead marries the parallel one

The marathi and bengoli films are also so good . I haven't watched much due to language , the subtitles doesnt give the real feelings and it distracts .

No offense against Fahmaan, never really liked him as Aryan. the OG pair for me is always Adi and Imlie and it is Gashmeer all the way Maya ji. He made us love a character like Aditya kumar Tripathi who was a bigamist hypocrite. Adi would have been scorned irl tbh.

Fahmaan as an actor is good. But yeah, I felt Aryan was Sasta Arnav.

There was a time when star plus shows was all about sanctity of marriage and pureness of relationships. Yrkkh 1, bidaai, Diya aur baati hum, ek hazaaron mein mere behena hai. I can watch these shows again anytime. They have a repeat value.

Now it's all about senseless triangles and no one cares who is with whom! Watching these once itself gets too much at times! 🤣
