If they wanted to change the concept, then DD was definitely the worst choice. She cannot speak, has terrible voice modulation and overacts. If they brought people like Soumya or Mini, I would have taken them seriously.

i would love to see them just guide the show without resorting to any more tomfoolery...I'm sorry, but i have to disagree with many ppl here who found last year's hosting remotely enjoyabler...it was not in the slightest...those wannabe english dialogues annoyed the hell out of me n so did the over-promotion of comedy nights with kapil. not to mention the drag queen dadi n god knows how many cross-dressed characters in that goddamned show!

You've taken the words out of my mouth, I was trying to say it was farcical the hosting because they were trying to take the comedy rubbish from last year and give it to Drashti and Ranvir to also do the same, but if they kept it a more classy show without the silly worshipping of the judges whether it's Madhuri Dixit Nene or Remo Desouza that is not needed just remember the contestants are bursting a lot of dance moves and the focus should be on them so the audience can appreciate their effort and also get to know each contestant because even though they are stars already, the audience at home don't really know their personalities and by observing them they can get to know them, that can be seen by focus being on the practice sessions for the week what went down with each pair, what arguments they might have had, what did they find tough about the routine, all that is building up to the performance for the audience to feel something marvelous is about to happen watch the transformation from practice to final curtain show time.

The British version Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With the Stars strictly maintains that ethos. I feel the Indian Version Jhalak Dikhla Jaa they are losing it a bit and older stars where they time has past, Madhuri and Remo are given a second opportunity to shine rather than the real today stars which are giving votes and revenue to the show, they signed up to the show to help them career wise for audiences to warm to them to get something better after the show, for that to happen, they need to be more prominent and the judges and hosts need to take a back seat.

@Nafisa: I guess Colors doesn't find 'classy' as something worth applying. They are happy with comedy and unnecessary footage of judges being treated like they are out of this world. This is what THEY BELIEVE will get them TRPs. You know I'm happy Maksim left. He would've thought what was wrong with the people/ gotten a weird impression if he would have understood hindi jokes + judge worshipping + contestants getting 10s ki dukaan. He would have been seriously confused about why the lack of focus on dance and more focus on comedy.

Plus I don't think he even gave the score whole heartedly. He was just mimicking the other judges. Indian audiences kay liye Indian judges hi chaltay hain.

I understand that the criticism this season on the hosting stems from audience comparing manish kapil comedy to drashti and ranvir, Jhalak and Colors shouldn't have had the new hosting duo try to do comedy just keep it classy, but as you said it's expectation from the audience and Colors got cold feet also panicked and replaced Drashti to get one host from last year at least, the panic stems from the criticism but more to do with TRP pressure the only shows two shows doing well are Jhalak and CNWK and that tells Colors that this comedy is what audience want to see. But not necessarily, look at the TRP it didn't dip, but Colors couldn't risk it, that's why this situation has come up.

About what you said Indian audiences getting bored and wanting comedy trust me, you would be bored only if you aren't entertained by dancing, I've seen the dance performances some of them I was awestruck, last year Drashti's aerial act remember? This time round I like a lot of them, my favourite is Shakti all her performances have left me really amazed, and the good thing is CNWK comes after Jhalak on Saturday so it would have kept it's audience no need for the panic by colors.

Secondly, comedy has become the theme of the show. I thought the theme of the show was 'DANCE'. Choreographers are showing contemporary over and over and nobody critiques them about this but if the hosts don't deliver there comic timings/ tickling the funny bones in more than half the show then the show is assumed to be ruined.

Comedy works something. Its nice to have the hosts crack you up sometimes with 'funny' content but not with maligning/ bullying contestants with stupid remarks.

Also, I don't think the format of the show could be like US version of Dancing With The Stars. Nobody tolerates this kind of nonsense over here of hosts doing ridiculous antics just to be funny. People don't find it funny they just find it to be stupid in the US. So I guess they have to tune the show according to how the masses in India would like it but I assert that hosting should be about introducing the contestants in a professional manner, giving them support/ good words of encouragement and then asking the judges for their scores instead of having fun at their expense.

I agree with you, the contestants need to be appreciated not maligned, I'm remembering Mukti, Drashti and Siddharth last year how Manish and Kapil were not behaving in a professional manner towards them, the contestants just laugh but if we all bear in mind that each of them is going into this show to help them career wise for future producers to see their character for their next opportunity. Now if the hosts make fun of them it's slander to these celebrities and what good name would they have made for themselves to get a film or television serial after Jhalak nothing right. So that's why its important to make them the focus, they signed up to the show with that in mind and also all they are doing learning the routines should be shown so audiences see it and appreciate them and their star grows. The judges need to realise that and the show producers also need to realise this also.

If Drashti couldn't speak a line properly without looking at the tellyprompter or took 1000 retakes, then why are you blaming the CONCEPT? They did try something new. But sadly, she only became a laughing stock for ppl at the end.

I believe Manish and Ranvir will rock it also. Manish is a stand up comedian and on the spur kind of guy so he should not have any problem.

As for Drashti she was so awesome to try something new. It's takes guts to go out of your comfort zone in front of million of people and try something new. That's my gutsy Drashti Dhami.

I love DD and kudos to her for trying something new.

Yah Manish and Drashti have rocked before in a comedy act, they rocked the peoples choice awards. It's the best PCA function until now also, I think that's why Drashti thought she could do comedy and host Jhalak as it had come off earlier perhaps had she had Manish Paul again hosting with her, Jhalak also it would but I think the issue here is talk about retakes because Drashti didn't learn the lines also, perhaps if she was with Manish as his her friend she would have been interested and they could have rehearsed too. They should have gone with these two from the start. But I would just rather have the dancing and less of the silliness by the hosts and judges.

Sadly in case of DD , the "type" of hosting wasn't really the matter . Was that Ranvir guy some awesome comedian ? No...but he at least had the abilities which a host needs . As per media reports DD wasn't comfortable with hosting at all ! She used to take 10-12 retakes every time , even through teleprompter couldn get her lines right & thus used to waste loads of time & energy of the unit . Though audience might not like her bcoz of her lack of humorous punchlines , but the show unit was annoyed with her coz she was giving loads of trouble while shooting & was wasting a good amount of time . In this industry time is valued very much & so they just couldn stand & waste so much time on a single host when the show is all about 12 dancers participating in a dance contest . So they had to remove her & bring someone seasoned enough who could do the job without wasting so much time & hence they could focus on the dancers . JDJ is not a "how to host" teaching charity school where some ameture can "learn" hosting , its a national level dance reality show where the host has to b a professional & "do" the job with ease .
