First of all we have to recognize that we can't force people to vote for contestants they don't like even if they happen to be better dancers..its a personal preference and it can be unfortunate and unfair but that's why the show is based on voting and not on the opinion of the judges. On the other hand, if you compare the outcome of this show, to the ones that take place in other countries you find that the winners are actually the best dancers and not the most popular. (
just a side note)
My main issue is the judges' inconsistency, I have no favorites on the show, I love dance but I also think that if you are a great dancer with a horrible attitude your dancing will take you so far.
so a few comments :
1) Gauhar is an amazing dancer, a very hard worker..her attitude was a huge set back but she seems to be toning that down lately and especially with Hard Kaur's elimination there's really no room for her to display any tantrums. However, votes remain to be her biggest obstacle to winning. Hopefully, today's amazing performances could work in her favor.
2) Baichung's strength is in his growth over the duration of the competition which if wasn't coupled with his popularity expressed through a large number of votes could have been easily a chance given to any other contestant. Baichung has improved a lot..Sonia is an incredible and really creative choreographer, she knows how to bring out the best out in him.
However what I don't understand is how the judges could be so biased and praise Baichung's contemporary performance today and rip off Karan's performance last week. Both performances had the choreographers doing most of the dancing while the contestants were doing most of the balancing/gripping/strength work .
In my opinion if there was any critique to be given Karan's performance was just as good, if not better the only thing that the concept of the dance, if not the dance altogether was copied from a dance from So You Think You Can Dance Canada season one (before you attack I will post the video shortly).
Finally, Baichung's dancing is seriously, robotic, he has absolutely zero expressions on his face..like none. In all dance shows we find judges deducting major marks on that. why is that overlooked in this show? Just a thought.
3) Hard Kaur- I really don't know where to start, this woman was just the most amazing thing on the show. In dance terms, she was versatile and open to criticism. She was a consistent performer and always scored the highest. What amazes me is the stint the judges pulled off on the show last week. I mean, what's the point? the vote was in their hands! they kick her out and then they blame it on the voters for keeping their favorite contestant. Someone had to go..so if according to their view the most consistent, versatile, top scorer had to go..then I guess there's nothing we can do but turning it around and consistently bashing Karan is really tacky.
4) Karan- Is a very good dancer, he is there is no ifs and buts..he's not my favorite, ive never watched his show, didn't know who he was before watching JDJ this season so I don't belong to no camp but if I were to be asked to choose between Baichung and Karan , I'd choose Karan for the simple reason that I am not judging his choreographer I am judging the contestant dancing ability...Karan can dance AND emote. His hip hop Kisna today was phenomenal and the judges were just ridiculous..i was really upset . Compared to Baichung's punjabi kisna ..I mean you can't even compare.
What the contestants and their familes do, or even the channel does to get votes is none of my business... I can't even vote because I don't live in India..I can just admire and praise the hard work that all the contestants put in their performances and the competition in particular. Whether its about popularity or about talent it really remains up to the viewers to decide..we can discuss it and rant and argue all we want since this is a public forum, the matter of fact is the votes will decide. My issue is since the judges role is to determine where the true talent lies, give constructive criticism, guide the contestants, tell them where they went wrong, and what they did right, encourage them when they do well. I think that throughout this competition because Karan is really extremely popular and he is getting votes no matter what the judges are trying to balance that by taking out marks, giving him harsh comments, ripping his good performances, and calling him a bekaar dancer just to appear fair. Channel politics or propaganda..it doesnt seem quite okay to me.
