i guess this time round the gussa and the dard will be provided, ably and adequately and even ajeebly, by the people who fell in love with a television show.

that thought about star plus doing it to just finish off the frenzy may even be spot on. 😆they called spammers sadistic?😕 pagal. and i say it without even a trace of subtle inner, embedded meaning.

precisely, young very young, old, pretty old, all were hooked. you were 17, i was... 51. and like a good piece of work, it invited many thoughts, many interpretations, and a yearning. almost a craving. after years i understood just why it may be interesting to analyse a character or structure of a script/story, or see it vis a vis current society, etc., stuff you do in college only for marks and don't really get all smitten... okay, i had a thing for macbeth and shylock, but doesn't mean i wanted to read all i could about them. (saw the trailer of macbeth day before, excited me... no idea of the what and where of it, but will see... swear i thought of barun somewhere in the middle of it all...)

ipk always had something most serials don't have... intelligence. and ken.

miss that in this series. yesterday spent hours doing subtitles... not once as i edited, did i burst out laughing. and it was asr in love, reminiscing. for me that goes somewhere between tragic and catastrophic. pagal...

ved raj and gautam hegde were the lead writers of ipk and the creators of ahem kokila gopi too (teehee, how relentless they...). three years of not writing asr, not thinking nafrat mohabbat pyaar, not being in touch, is showing. and there's a taking for granted of the viewer which adds to a smugness overall. shades of ahem in humara gussa boy, shades of vahu perhaps in kkg too, who knows. dm, please spare my mano darlings from kokila ka asar.

anyway, jashn got us all back here... so chalega.

think i'll buy my patidev a pink jacket for our thirtieth. might bring about the change a girl could live with. yeah that is why we all fall in love, so that with our superior powers and modern tech, we can change the man we marry... that way alone can parivaar and parampara go on.

aside: if we've done this to the characters of asr and kkg in just teen saal, imagine what we must have done to ram and sita in teen millennia (or more... or less), sochega padi.

The young cin nailed it, didn't she?
After watching today's episode, I think the idea is to kill off the frenzy. A sadness really.
Oh well we still have the original 398, even with the bad ones towards the end, I'll take that any day.

Like Indi di said, the target audience for them have apparently changed, I don't get who are the target audience in first place? And whatever was the reason behind a reunion thrown out of the blue? Even if I try, I can't reconcile with the view that it's a magnanimous gesture by the channel towards the show fans. Nope, they are too business minded for such generosity.

It could be any, maybe because they are extending services of hotstar to other countries and IPK enjoys a decent, okay more than decent popularity overseas, they decide to encash on that, yet again.
Or the incessant spam since 3 years had eaten up all their bandwidth and they were suffering from slow internet 😆(and that irritated the hell out of them, not that far fetched for I remember not long ago, somebody from star calling the spammers sadistic) and they decided to end it once and for all. (that is far fetched.)

Whatever be the reason, I at least get to see that rarer than blue moon sight on screen. I honestly wasn't expecting much, so in that way I am pretty satisfied with what Jashn has to offer.

Coming back to the question of target audience, I was 17 or 18 when I got hooked on to this show, detested the cheesy even then. If they think all teenaged girls like, are pink rooms, cuddle teddies, mushy talks and peppy dance songs, they are gravely mistaken. Even the idea of romance is so misconstrued. Why is it necessary to reconcile all differences between two human beings for them to be in love?

The essence of IPK was in its portrayal of relationships, be it sibling relationships or friendship or romance. And in all these relationships, the contrasting traits of the people in them were the highlight of the show. IPK's beauty was in love blooming despite the conflicts and not love blooming because we seeked counselling sessions from each other and worked our asses off to excoriate the conflict so that we can fall in love, peacefully.

No, I don't have issues with Jashn, but I have had issues ever since they showed ASR partaking in rasams and kasams to please his beloved. Not issue per se with the characterization, I understand people do things for the happiness of those they deeply love despite the said things being out of their comfort zone. ASR did it earlier for Anjali, he then did it for Khushi. What I have issues with is the psyche that runs behind it.
The idea that he changed, she changed him or he changed himself for love. Then whom did she love in the first place? A man whom she wanted to change? Am I making sense here? So she did not fall for the man, she fell for the project. The excitement of taking up a difficult project and then moulding it as per your wishes. Huh? 😲

In the last couple of months of IPK, they gave us an uncomfortably mellowed Arnav and a bratty, aggravating buffoon Khushi, nah she wasn't anymore the girl I rooted for, related with, adored. Nor was he the man I fell head over heals for.
If Khushi who lectured Lavanya on not to burn crackers on Diwali for they encourage child labour in 2011 had to be lectured by her husband on the same in 2012 while she sulks, "ek bomb mein kya jaata hai, laad governor kahinke..." then she can also steal the scooter of her own shop. And they can have off screen segments ki photoo adorning the bedroom walls. It's all much acceptable, to be taken with a pinch of salt and gargled with lukewarm water of nostalgia. 😆

Delighted to read your thought.
I also don't know what is this target audience! I was 19 when IPK started and my mom I guess was 50/51. both were hooked, the difference is I am still hooked , my mom not.😆 So proud to say I'm also one of the sadist who spammed them quite often for a new show with Sarun, though my group of friends had been doing it incessantly for three years.

There is too much flaws in Jashn. But still I accepted as my exception was really low. Something I just couldn't digest, like ASR making coffee by himself or his changed perception of his love for plants. Did these plants were his solace! did the poolside garden was the sacrosanct place for him where he got connected with his mother! We indeed saw him to change for Khushi, but does people's basic characteristic, thoughts, perceptions or habits change so easily!
At the same time I'm trying to think rationally or you can say trying to find some lame logic. 😛 We are upset because Khushi tried to change ASR. But did we ever think why ASR agreed to change! My opinion is he wanted to be changed or he loved this change and probably he didn't change what he didn't like.
"mei to khushi khushi pagal bane thi"... this is what they said in the promo song. Maybe he willingly changed himself for Khushi. So I'm not quite unhappy. The most positive thing is, I got to see my favorite jodi back, though still didn't get the opportunity to see the magical chemistry yet.😡 I'm actually anticipating a sequel what perhaps will be made for TV. As Akash hinted about Khushi's pregnancy, most probably they will start with this track. But honestly speaking if they planned so then I can guarantee you IPK will completely lose it's essence. I was expecting a brand new show with Barun and Sanaya as i'm crazy about them. Let's see what is stored for us.
I know SP is not so generous to fulfill our wish, but somehow I felt they did this jashn for the international audience, especially for Arab world. IPK created a huge craze among Arabians. Is there any money connection here as Arabs are quite rich to provide money. Otherwise why all of a sudden as you said out of the blue they are fulfilling the wish of the those sadist!😆

Anyway we gotta see Sarun together is our gain, there is actually nothing to lose as Kizh said we have 398 golden episodes to cherish.

Bhy naat, probhided my generator is bhat they are really targeting hello hi bye bye. 😆

Oh yes abhoid faraking, (s)expectiyaying and relish till it lasts for bhatever its worth. Ajj they say, Sexpectation be at the root of all indigestion.

I tuned into the third installment with zero of what had costed Philip Pirrip a novel worth. Lo and behold, I grinned through it. Don't want to delve into why would Arnav refer to Akash as "Tu" and not "Tum" and give into that "Tu toh shaadi ke baad bilkul badal gaya..." glad it hung there and not plunged into, "doston ko bhool gaya yar, paraya ho gaya tu toh." 😆

But still, I enjoyed it, watching Dobti share screen space after long. The two together are good phor my haemoglobin.

PS: Kaanspiraciej? Yeah bring it on, or the husky, aane do. I'll add some of my own. 😆

bhun more cheez: about star and magnanimity. of course, it isn't there. but then i don't even expect it... you are a business... you want to make money... normal. but why kill the proverbial golden goose or if you like goat... why won't you ponder how to bring it back three years on, evolve, get in new viewers and stay strong? make money? look at mr bond (again i think of barun) over so many years and with such big gaps he returns again and again, clearly target audience is majorly women now as compared to early sean connery days (i am happy to be killed), i hear some bond fans crib, some say they love it... and no matter who says what, three years on when the next one comes, there will be anticipation, excitement and a funny happy feeling about that spy in a deadly suit (okay daniel ji and barun ji, both in character, fought valiantly on the crest of my mind, daniel ji finally sat down, laughed, adjusted his cuff and said, okay, you win this round.)

In school one was made to write character sketches of the blandest protagonists in NCERT books, boards wanted to ease out the burden and avoided difficult stories or complex characters thereby making the subject plain boring all together! Was made to read abridged Shakespeare and Dickens though but lengthy questions were not to be framed from those. Sigh, had school English been a tad bit more interesting I would have taken up humanities instead of science.

It was a couple of weeks before college would begin when I discovered this random show that had me very, very curious. And on week two of my acquaintance with the show, I had a list of things to google. "Who plays Arnav Singh Raizada" topping that list of course. 😆 But here's how I discovered online forums and through them the real joy of analysing stories, characters, drawing parallels and doing all that which made a show much more meaningful than what I believe it was intended to.

On various occasions through the show I felt this, how could they? Is it the same writing team? Do writers alternate? Does the pen and paper for script travels on a passing the parcel basis? The inconsistencies were stark. In retrospect I wonder if it were by an elaborate fluke that for the first 200 or so episodes things fell miraculously well in place. Not undermining their effort in any way, the team, writers, directors, actors and crew all had worked very hard but it's hard to digest that losing one's mojo can be a thing of permanency.

IPK for me died with the way they handled Shyam's revelation to Anjali. That line on smugness, yes Di, there it is. I agree. They take audience for granted, they also take audience as casual onlookers who watch their product to simply pass time and forget, not invest emotionally, never to this extent.
Take a cursory glance at the mediocrity served on Indian TV. No matter how diverse is the country, television is a blunt contrast, there's so much uniformity in this mediocrity which reeks of complacency.

Which is the reason why they can neither decide on IPK's target audience nor can they gauge what really makes it so popular. The formulaic romance has been replicated numerous times but to no avail, the craze couldn't be recreated. They have failed to figure out what clicked with this particular venture.

PS: Can we have a debate? Is it pink or brown? I see fawn. 😕

PPS: Bond ji and Barun ji. Haila, I am not alone? So so so great to know. In fact a friend recently said and I agreed, how with every good movie that she happens to watch, every character she happens to see, mind can't help but immediately replace every thespian with this one and savor what it might unleash on screen. Those "mights". Great Expectations. Ah well.

Hayee behen thank you, joo agree with the spamming theory? The frenzy killing it does seem to be. When I saw the first episode I was reminded of this Akshay Kumar dialogue. It's from Bhool Bhulaiya, he's making use of a woman's sari and the woman demands it back, they bicker because he's not done with it but at the end, reluctant as ever gives it to her and says in that quintessence Akshay Kumar style, "Lo thoons lo." ("Stuff it!")

Which is Star's stance towards the fans, "karliya spam?" "Lo thoons lo."

Let's count the reasons.

Sanaya.

1) Loves Khushi too much.
2) Doesn't like sitting idle/ being offscreen for long.

That's enough for her I guess. IPK? Reunion? Sure, why not? And it's not being done in charity after all.

Barun.

1) Could be an accomplice to Star's "Lo Thoons lo" regime.
2) Has seen way too much ASR love around him. There has not been one interview where the banda wasn't asked about ASR and doing it again, or doing a show again with Sanaya which was taken as more or less, doing IPK again. So, "Lo Thoons Lo."
3) Witnessed a frenzy in Dubai too for the same. "Lo some more thoons lo."
4) Realizes has been offscreen for long and ardent fans just want to see him. Bahut ho gaya. Wapas aa jao and all that. So "lo thoons lo"
5) One oowild theory. As per SBS, Star plans a series with him post the reunion, this was speculated the first time news of reunion got leaked (deliberately?). That points to a few directions.
6) It was just an affair of 2 days.

Aha what he loved in the concept?

1) The concept of wearing pink/brown/fawn blazer.
2) The concept of standing on one foot with another in mid air and arms spread in what could have otherwise been SRK pose.
3) The concept of romancing the fan. Or just flirting with it. See? See?

That said, I love it. In three episodes, I got moments, a few of them spread out, with repeat value. Mainly for the intonations in his voice. And there was magic in them. Subdued but magic. ❤️
