One shot: Before it was too late!

"I am tired of these everyday fights!" she yelled back with the same intensity Arnav had shouted at her. You never learnt to control your anger. Always you did is shout, scream, and yell! Why do you always think I will do as you say? I am your wife, not your slave."

"No, I don't care, do whatever you want to do. And do I ask you to do things on my set conditions?" he questioned. "Hell, go wherever you want to go, but sorry I can't accompany you after the long day of working, and then come home, and instead of having some light talk, hear this doltish things of yours," he yelled. "I have no time for this shit. If you really think I stop you doing anything, I am going somewhere far, then you can do whatever you want to do. Nobody will be there to stop you then. I just want to end this everyday's effing fights too."

"This is not a way, Arnav," she complained. "You cannot walk away. And what's so new, by the way, this is what you always had been doing."

"You know what?! I will be doing it. At office, work doesn't leave me, at home, your this drama and questions. "Where were you? Why didn't you pick up the phone? With whom you were? Why did you come home late? Why don't you attend functions with me? Is there anyone else in your life?" I am tired of answering you these questions every time you ask me. If you can't trust me, leave me!"

Khushi shut her eyes, as she tried to control her anger and muffle her hurt at the back of her head. But she was unable to. She cried in pain, and shouted in anger.

"I am your wife, Arnav, I have the right to ask you these questions!"

"After every single minute? The heck with your questions!" he yelled and threw his phone on the floor and it shattered into pieces.

Khushi frizzled in fear. She could tell, just like the phone, their relationship was shattering. Slowly and steady. The damage they might not see, but with the closer look everything was slowly destroying. Didn't matter how hard they were trying to fix things but they only got worst, and once things breaks they are harder to put together in the same shape, isn't? Sometimes they are too hard to amend.

"All I effing want is break. A break from you, from this relationship," she heard him as he left in anger. Kicking whatever came into his way.

Khushi sat in the dark corner of her room, as the echoes of their fights deafened her ear.

Now all she just wanted was to shut herself completely from the outside world. She knew now it was her place, until her husband wasn't thinking of coming back from the U.K. Did they really need this separation?

Yes, they did. They had to sought out things, which they couldn't have done if they had stayed together. Sometimes things just work out this way. If in their case it would have been, time shall had tell.

However, she didn't want him to go. No, not at all. But he refused to listen her. Who doesn't have fights? A couples fight here and there, she wished she could say this, one year of their marriage they had spent together was mostly fighting.

She hugged her knees tightly. The room without him felt lifeless. She thought the walls of her house will eat her away. To her no life existed, not even she herself. In the big mansion only she herself alone.

It had been a week, they hadn't talked to each other. She had no idea how Arnav was doing, and so do he himself had no idea how was she. Didn't matter how much they tried to call each other, just they couldn't. They would get them to dial each other's phone but never found the courage to press the call button.

"I beg off you, don't even dare to call me!" he said, "as long as I am away from you in peace!"

"Why the hell I will?" She cried. "Just go and have fun!"

She was too mad at that time to realize that what it would really feel as he would be going and they won't even be in touch.

Oh, she felt terrible. Why didn't they just sought out the differences they had back then?

Her stomach hurt as she hadn't eaten properly since week, without him she felt no need to take care of herself, as she wasn't sure if Arnav had eaten anything or not.

She hated herself for not controlling her anger, if Arnav couldn't, despite knowing it was his habit. And he was out of habit never learnt to control his anger. Then why she was such a way?

More she thought of the fights they had in the past one year of their married life, more bitterly she cried.

"Arnav, I want a child!"

"Right now, I don't!" he fumed. She didn't know if he ever had learnt to answer in a nice way. "My life has just started! Our life together has just started, you want to ruin it with kids," he explained his own reasons.

Did they ever try to be on the same page? If one liked red, the other liked black. And fight would start, if one wanted the things this way, the other, wanted it the other way.

Now she understood how hard it actually was to stay away from him. Now behind their fights they saw each other's love.

It was stupid how on every little thing they fought, and gradually they started rifting apart. Then all of sudden, it felt like they didn't even know each other.

In the dark room only her sobs echoed. She had no count of hours she had been crying. They just seemed not to be stopping in any way.

"I won't fight again!" she cried and deplored. "Please, Arnav come back!" She laid on the rug floor and so wished she was in the arms of her husband. Her eyes slowly shut, after sometime she had no idea where she was.

God knows after how many hours she woke up, her head hurt. Her eyes were swollen.

She found herself on the bed when she remembered she actually had laid on the floor, how did she end up on the bed?

It was still dark outside, seemed like it wasn't much long she was sleeping. She checked the clock, it was just 8:00 PM.

"Khushi you up?! Arnav said as he walked into the room with a plate of food in his hands, and a big smile on his face. That she hadn't seen for quite long time.

His voice and his presence made her heart jump in happiness.

"Arnav!" she cried, with a gush of relief in her voice.

"Oh god, look who is crying?" he said jokingly.

He put the plate and the glass of water on the night table. As he was finally sitting on the bed. Khushi jumped to hug him.

She wailed until feeling so much relieved. "Arnav, why did you take this long to come?"

He smiled and rubbed her back. "Bas...Khushi...don't cry!"

She wasn't going to listen to anything. She missed him. She was afraid she was dreaming. Physically he wasn't there, she thought.

"Arnav, tell me you are here. Tell me this is not my dream!"

Arnav felt the indescribable pain in her words it punctured his heart. His wife truly had missed him, so much that she must have spent hours crying, regretting, in their room. Probably on the floor, just the way he had found her, when he was home. First he was scared, wondering if she was okay or not. Then when he checked her she seemed to be sleeping. He had taken a sigh of relief.

If someone asked him how was he? Worst! Spending a week without her, was daunting then the fights they had.

"Arnav, I will never fight, please don't leave me ever. Arnav, I would die."

"Ssshh...Khushi. Please do not say so...I have realized after being apart for this long, how much importance you keep in my life. Khushi, I love you. I am sorry I hurt you. Left you alone here. And look at yourself how weak you have become. Hadn't you eaten anything?"

She shook her head against his shoulder. All the while he caressed her hair, rubbed her back simultaneously to make her feel better. "Arnav, without you, breathing also didn't come easily to me. You are my life, Arnav. After living apart for a week I realized what you mean to me!"

"I know, Khushi, now enough you have cried! Eat something!"

She just wanted to be in his arms. Feel the warmth of him. That she was deprived for exact hundred and sixty eight hours. But it was worth it, they both realized. This separation indeed was much needed.

Arnav had tightly hugged her, oh how much he missed his wife, the smell of her hair, the embrace of her arms around him. Her voice.

"Khushi, please eat something, I am going no where!" he said. He didn't get any response from her. He was scared. He pulled her back carefully and she came crashing in his hands.

"Khushi?!" he called her softly. Fear engulfed his heart. "Khushi, open your eyes, what's wrong? Khushi, look, don't scare me!" He was getting restless. "I am sorry, for what I did, Khushi, it's my promise I won't leave you ever," he patted her cheek.

But he wasn't getting any answer from her. He laid her on the bed and was going to call the doctor when he saw her opening her eyes.

"Khush...you okay?!" he asked as he threw the phone away.

She smiled, and took his hand in hers that cupped her face. She kissed it. "Arnav, I missed you!"

Arnav immediately leant closed to her, touched his forehead against hers. "Khushi, you scared me!" he said.

"I am fine!" she replied. "If you hadn't come, I would have..."

Arnav immediately sealed her lips with his as he knew what she was going to say again.

He kissed her slowly, then gradually with full devotion.

This was the only thing they needed in their relationship.

Understanding, love, and care.

Slowly she was kissing him back, tears never stopped coming out of her eyes.

He was kissing her madly although, she had difficulty to match the passion he was pouring in the kiss, but she tried.

Just to express the emotions that was too hard to put in words for both of them.

Khushi had cupped his head, her fingers danced in his hair. She missed her husband and in no way she wanted, a long week which in reality was one year, as they were together but always far; to just end in few calculative seconds.

"I will fulfil your every demand, Khushi. Never ever I will think of even going away from you!" he promised. And kissed her every single tear.
"Now get up, and eat. If you are not really hungry even after passing out, let me tell you I have not eaten for the past 24 hours and I am really hungry!"

"Why, Arnav?" she asked as lines of worries formed on her forehead.

"Just because I knew you hadn't!" he said before kissing her once again.

They questioned themselves, why didn't they give these little things a consideration before, why they had let their ego come in the way of their relationship to an extent they needed a time alone from each other? Why it wasn't us, then me, me and only me?

Well it was never too late. They both had realized their mistakes and ready to start fresh.

He helped her sat up, tugged pillows behind her back so that she could sit back comfortably.

Arnav dipped morsel of chapati in the dal and brought close to her mouth to feed her. But first she made him eat it. They took their sweet time. Talked about what they did in the past week.

They were on the same page, despite, missing each other, and trying to understand where did they go wrong. They had done nothing.

As they both were done eating. Arnav laid her back and shortly he joined her. He embraced her in his arms and kissed her forehead.

"Khushi, sleep, you are tired!" he said.

"I have slept a lot, Arnav, it's a time to wake up!" she said. "It's time to make every wrong right!"

Arnav pulled her even closer to himself. They talked late, until they both dozed off in each other's arm. With a hope that from now onwards every night and a day would bring only happiness to their relationship.
