I do agree with you here, Arnav did manhandle Khushi, I darent say this Shyam at the time treated her with more respect... However, I suspect the motives are one of self loathing, Arnav hating himself and confused at the same time, after all he was a boy,who was emotionally stunted, where as Shyam did it to gain her confidence.However, the clip showed him holding on to her even though she was crying, NO MAN should abuse his physical capabilty over a woman like that. Lets not forget she was supposed to be a naive 17/18 year old, who didnt understand what was going on at the time she must have been scared out of her mind.

It all changed when the truth was out and it almost bacame the other way. I cannot forgive him for treating Khushi the way he did after the elopement, making her sleep in the cold was torturous to watch, that with the unadulterated hate he felt for her at the time was so sad to see. Again I think he was battling with himself and what he had seen on the terrace and his own attraction towards her.

I watched the payal scene above and it and the whole episode reminded me how slick the show was, Baruns face of utter shock, hits me as to why he was wanted elsewhere. If only he had held out a bit more.. enough said me thinks especially as the only version of the film I'll get to watch will be on dvd...

Re manhandling of khushi by asr since I was not able to particapate ibn that discussion on bftp, I will say my bit here.

There are some rare beautiful people who have gone through hell in life, but have not turned into hard, cynical people. Again there are some who have surfaced with wounds always fresh and who angrily blame the world. Society has and always will sympathize with such persons and rightly so.

Asr obviously falls into the second category. People like these develop their own defence nechanism to deal with the world. Anger is one such. The other is snatching power and respect and wealth from others by intimidating them for they really believe that only domination works and it is theonly way to get back at the society that hurt them.

So if you see asr is an intimidator whether in the house or in the office. He sets the rules in the house, good or bad, as he does in the office. The problem does not arise when he is intimidating and manhandles a businessman(he does slap.one and is arrogant with all others) but when he what you call manhandles a woman.

To be fair to him, I dont think he is a sexist. If he was raging mad with some guy for whatever reason, you have rightly mentioned his frustration to overcome his attraction for khushi etc. He would have manhandled him in the same manner. He does not have different set of rules for men and women. We scream equality but society believes women should be treated in a way different from men . We are confused and endorse the same traditional view sometimes I think. Asr rises above all that. He is a true liberal, so. In advance of his times that we fail to recognize it. If his mother had betrayed his father he would have hated his mother, not his father. Period. There would have been no concessions for her just because she is his mother and a woman. He was harsh on his Dadi, Nani(re: live in with La) and also his Di(when she insisted she wanted Khushi back in the house). The same man also forgave Garima when he realized she had done no wrong. If Shashi Gupta hada relation with his mother he would have forgiven him in a similar manner. Gender was not important. It was how he saw a person.

As far as Khushi is concerned its true what you say he was frightening her away to keep his shell intact, to continue to live in in the only way he knew...dark, cynical, angry, intimidating. He was not deriving pleasure out of physically intimidating her. If we think it was sexual intimidation it makes us sexist not him!
