@Faiqa~
thank you so much to find time to read my nonstop bak bak.
I agree with most of your points what you said about Anji baby. Actually her character was fabricated badly.
So you think she wanted to hurt herself by that scissor. But if she had a plan to suicide, why not at home! why she created drama in the hospital.
So do you think barun gave his paper, that's why they rushed with the script. may be you are right. But when Barun gave his final notice then they didn't ponder it. rather showing good stuff to end the show properly they showed all the crap of mrs. india and sheetal.
I want to rectify one line in my take. I said Arnav should be less realistic with Anjali. It's wrong. I meant Arnav should be more realistic with her. Let me just edit that.
I always complain that arnav carries anjali or eevn Anjali touched his cheek and all. haha, this is my fun, you know your naughty little sister. she is just a petulant child.
I absolutely love that you mentioned this line.

Less said is better about Anjali in those episodes. In quest of maintaining drift between two love birds creators spoiled the most sweetest SIL character on Indian TV.
My biggest complaint was how come this Nari who believess in so much puja path did not go away with her hubby? If she was ready to kill her child due to her husband and all how come she was in the same house as the person who threw her hubby out? Aren't wives supposed to be following hubbies especially the blind follower like Anjali?

IPK Showed 3 couples all in love but behaving so different during the time of crisis.
First one being Arshi who would hurt eachother yet were the biggrst support system for each other.
Second Akash/Payal all lovey dovey showering respect and sweetness beyond ones imagination but stopped communicating when things did not go their way.

Last but not least Anjali and Shyam. Do I need to say anything

Fabulous post. You reminded of things that were discussed a lot those days. Why Anjali didn't go along with her husband, ideally should have. She knew her husband didn't have a roof over his head, perhaps she didn't want become that bojh on him. Interestingly she was never really shown to have gone through any flashbacks of his being away, ring, Khushi's fianc being Shyam, I mean there are a million proofs rather potential red flags if one is willing to consider. Would have been nicer if she considered all and then some how arrived at the conclusion he is not at fault.. she was reluctant to think any, only hanging on to her dependence of him.. she can not live without him.. doesn't matter who/ what he is...that was regressive...
and, there is so much of asr clout portrayed even domestically, as much as he is younger to most of them, everyone respected his decisions whether they liked or not.
Nice contrast drawn between the three couples.
Every relationship, involving genuine people, may have a rough patch, for ASR- Khushi it happened at the very start, for akash- payal may be in the middle
anajli- shyam none or all... becos he wasn't genuine to start with..

Bhavii very interesting thoughts.

And all the three couples and the different faces of a relationship. IPK sometimes felt very life like. And that is the inherent reason it hits hard.

I did not think of this earlier, but how true.. Anjali could have chosen to go away with her husband.

She was such a great character to begin with. And her relation with ASR was portrayed beautifully. Fresh and life like. Both teasing and supporting each other. So many fun interactions between the two. No harm in making Anjali weak, but then atleast show some character growth. Here she became childish and self centered, and when finally the maha reveal of Shyam happened after post marriage they almost quietly brushed it away. Even if it was all about screen space there were a million better ways for the truth to gradually sink in which would have been much more effective and made her character arc positive and not sink into oblivion like it did.

episode 294

"wow khushi kumari gupta singh raizada ko sharmana bhi aata hai."

okay, let's see, how low, almost guttural, husky, playful and heady with desire can you make your voice. actually, no need, we are passing out anyway.

i am missing my regular ipk watching and writing fix. so today am determined to do a short one if need be, without edits if that's what tricky computer i can't figure out wants, a really quick one if that's what the packed sched will allow... but write i will... it's diwali and this is my treat.

happy diwali, everyone. can't say that slanting play of lips by the diabetic was a bad thing to start diwali on. mithai most perfect.

"khushi, it's high time ki main tumhari taraf aaon, toh tum peechhe jana band kar do... in fact, tumhe mere saath aagey badna seekhna hoga..."

high time you stopped walking backward he says to his wife, as a signature backward forward steps thing gets going... there by the poolside where it's always romantic and somehow just right. she looks up startled, she did not see his pause and sharp look as she started taking steps back almost by force of habit.

now while i don't think a woman needs a man to "save" her or make her better in any way, and any hint of a i know better and let me teach you guy gets me angry and hissy, this i felt was absolutely lovely... these are the little things that are not so little, that make the character of asr very significant for me. he in no way wants a seven steps behind companion. he wants the woman in his life to be his equal... not a cent less. actually, his attitude to women is utterly refreshing and i do absolutely thrill to that. not even a trace of that patriarchy that is in the dna of our world. and no disrespect for the woman. yes he can be overbearing at times, a bit over protective, sometimes a little supercilious about ha i know the real world and you don't... but that makes him human, and cute. especially because you know, if you prove him wrong he'll be pretty happy and downright proud of you, uff that "khsuhi kumari gupta singh raizada," in the godown surrounded by lallan and his not merry men.. there is no need in this character to have clingy people around him, just so he can feel mighty and strong.

however, he is clingworthy i must say and me forever klingon.

mere saath agey... with me take steps forward... that sense of being part of each other's lives, of growing together... said simply, that sentence doesn't sound thick and heavy, just lovely. the matter of fact way of speaking asr has was just so right on those words.

and barun sobti and sanaya irani surely did the sweetest little nonverbal utterly man woman communication during this interlude. little looks, lids up down, smile coming and leaving before making an entry, an eyebrow about to rise but the eye dashes up then the lip lifts instead, a foot here, a shoulder turning, startled eyes, knowing eyes, the shyest smile, the most loving gaze, look, look, look once more... the seconds ticked by, i wished this would go on and on some more.

1:34 reads the counter...

and i have already written so much?

she looked back before leaving. did she understand why he did what he did? he said to himself, that's what i wanted, that you should smile once. i can't blame him, she has been looking most unlike herself with that morose sad expression past few episodes.

couldn't help wondering, so asr, you take care of everyone's smile... who takes care of yours?

there is a solitariness in the character of this man that is peculiarly touching. i think it is in his being, a part of him. it makes him who he is. even the way he takes charge of his life shows it, without leaning on anyone, without opening certain parts of himself. an "alone" in him that makes him strong and makes him vulnerable, double edged this way of being.

and who is this new hari prakash ji?

ah, the form changing hp... there is more to the forest of peace and its denizens including gust of wind, poolside, curtains, etc., than mere science will ever be able to explain.

i tried my level best to watch the next bit objectively, but could not.

did khushi just tell anjali that she must forget shyam ji, and it was her beeta hua kal? her yesterday? every word khushi spoke sounded off, wrong and not appropriate to me... to the point of being objectionable and insensitive.

that she came into the room, i would still have understood... that's khushi... fools rush in attitude coming from her clean good caring nature, she can't bear to think of di hungry and wants to help... wants to soothe, wants to love.

okay.

but what's with the talk? di must instantly forget everything and start being happy because otherwise arnav ji feels bad? huh? and it's all khushi's fault so be mad at me? a bit me centric wasn't that? the woman has just seen her beloved husband being thrown out of the house, she is strangely obsessed with her husband... still not clear to khsuhi who understands everything? or even if she doesn't... why all this long lecture?

incompetent writing now happily messing up two characters.

because if khushi is sanctimonious and irritating, anjali is unbearable and selfish and lunatic.

where is that girl's essential fire? where is the woman who tells her bro to be strong the first time we meet her... and leave the past behind? where is the upbeat girl who interferes and organises other people's lives albeit lovingly so you forgive her?

and how mopey is this exactly, sitting on the bed and flipping in slow motion through albums replete with pictures of shyam ji and herself in their happy days? was anjali brought up on a heavy dose of meena kumari movies? and if so, sorry, bland is not the flavour to opt for then... go all the way to broken voiced high drama...

this scene was just so not ipk.

how long does it take to check if di is at home or not? suddenly shantivan has expanded and many minutes of a twenty minute episode must go by pointlessly while everyone runs about yelling di.

in all the drama, i must say i loved the raging asr shouting at the new hp... how could you let her go, why didn't you stop her... i would be exactly in that state...

and i also liked the way he stood by himself, his worry becoming thicker... tinged with fear maybe, a sixth sense. that was a nice touch in direction.

he had to rush out of course to go find his sister... in character. and when he said he would find di not to worry, nani believed him... this time though, she stopped khushi from accompanying him... a poignant reminder of 65, the beautiful episode where brother sister and a girl looking on found their tales getting inextricably intertwined. the episode where nani had commanded chhotey to take khushi bitiya along on that search for anjali while he snarled and hissed.

delhi's auto riskshaws have their unique palce in ipk... and so it is that a three wheeler driver came to the raizada mansion demanding his meter charge, just as the most worried, distracted and gorgeous of all raizadas anywhere on earth and the entire universe, his stubble and hair style changing a wee bit in every scene, began to drive out not in a white suv. the gh stay and kidnapping had long lasting effects on the show... the suv never ever returned, except for in shots repeated from stocks.

there was this wonderful ad for timberland back in the eighties or nineties i think, that went, "we stole their land, their buffalo and their women. then we went back for their shoes." here they stole his suv first, the rest would come... slowly, painfully... his gussa, his office... and yes, his woman.

anyway, thanks to the auto man, asr got to know where his sister had traipsed off to.

as for that whole abortion plan. bizarre. violent. what happened to the god fearing thaal wielding anjali? how does this fit in with all her faith, belie, and ideas of piety? ah never mind. it was perhaps a sign of things to come, soembody didn't like babies obviously.

and alas, looks like they have stolen his sister already.

Lovely writing all over indi. Did I ever say, before IPK I never really heard the last name Raizada, unlike Gupta or a Jha, which are very familiar. So yes he would remain the quintessential Raizada for me..
Then I came across a Raizada, in my own field, and was reluctant to accept his name! Why this back story.. OH yes...cling worthy.. let me KLING too.. please...
Yes, solitude is his identity to even ornament, but the beauty is he didn't shun his duties .. perfect case of Detached attachment...
The never to return SUV needs/ deserves a full pledged mourning .. an essential part of the character..
Loved connection to 65 and naniji's timely interference whether Khushi bitiya should accompany or not..
Anjali, what to say.. no thought into what this earlier sensitive and sensible woman was saying/ doing... there was an forcibly imposed screen space ... almost how Khushi was pushed onto the stage in the first epi and didn't know how to walk/ what to do...she fell down.. what happened to Anjali's character...

Sorry for the delayed response.
Anjali as a woman was a very weak character. She was sweet but did not have courage to face reality of life. She always was in the dream/perfect world. She always took things as per her own perspective. She was so gullible that can not add up 2+2 =4.

You are right she should have investigated further by herself as to what the truth is but the trouble is she was not just physically handicapped but was emotional handicapped too. Her life revolved around 2 pillars namely ASR and Shyam and to make things worst one pillar was the reason to get rid of other(Atleast that is what she thought)

I think this may be the very reason why ASR was so much protective about his didi. From childhood he must have found out how weak her di was?

I also had complaint on ASR for not investigating the truth even after Khushi told him everything. He should have just gone to the GH and maholla and asked everyone to ensure if Khushi was right or not. So you can see both siblings share the same trait. They both jump to conclusions when it comes to their better half.

She was a little lost, worried about di, his health, everything else happening in the house. Even when repeatedly they came in each other's way she did not catch on the hint of a smile appear on his face. Then her eyes found his and she realized he was blocking her way deliberately.

The wind had found a reason to blow happily. The poolside was a joyful witness of her first playful interaction with her husband, after they have been through hell and back together, after he declared he believed her, after a night of torture seeing di in agony and being forced to let her bear it alone.
Well said. the poolside was Arnav and Khushi's eternal heaven, sometimes Shyam and Anjali's romance spot too; though the pool was not tycoon's house style, nobody ever swim there. By the way who will swim in three feet deep pool. May be Arnav and Khushi's baby. Before that they have to purify the water, cause I'm sure the water must be toxic. I can write more praising verses about that pool, but you may faint after a good laugh, so let me stop.

No, he is not angry with you, and surely when you are in front of him how can he not smile in wonder and that inherent naughty raizadaness that we go completely crazy over. As long as your are with him, every pain is bearable, there is strength and joy in your presence in his life.
Uff my sweet S, It seems you will stick to him till the end. I'm very short tempered you know. When he will say you mean nothing I'll perhaps leave him.

ASR let love come and claim him today. He allowed his heart to feel happy. The sight of her safe and sound, taking care of him, in his room, is enough to give him a moment of respite. And he lets it come to him.

Most probably this lightness, his attention, was least expected by her. It is almost like how Khushi Kumari Gupta would deal with a problem... making jilebis was her way.. Flirting with his wife, is his way.

The smile does return on her face, which he claims is what he wants, but Mr Raizada, in case you did not notice, the smile returned on your face as well.
That's what we want to see, right?

He gauges her reaction, a playful amused smirk on his lips. His dear jhalli girl, all grown up serious one minute and then transitioning back to the coy, inexperienced, in love, new wife. Flustered because of him, unsure of how to deal with a playful husband. "Wow Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh raizada ko sharmana bhi aata hai.." .. A husky pride in his low tone, that he gets to make her shy.. She is his.. he knows it. And revels in it.
beautiful thought.

The talkative girl has no words.. But jab tum chup hoti ho tumhari aakhen bolti hai Khushi Kumari Gupta Singh Raizada. He moves towards her.. Wonder what he wanted to do? From habit, a dance step that is well practiced by now, she falls in sync, stepping back. Unsettled. You can almost feel the breath leave her in nervous anticipation.
yes when they both talk less, their eyes speak volume.

Only this time he does not want her to move back or move away from him. It's high time she stopped going back. She should move forward with him... together. No mincing of words.. No flowery words.. In short simple sentences ASR speaks of what he is ready for.. He is ready to face the future.. with his wife by his side.
Do you think he only meant that? But my naughty mind actually veered to some other direction, you know where, if you can't, ask me, I'll PM you.😉

And though she says not one word, her lowered eyes and shy smile tell him all he needs to know. That she is as thrilled as him, and ready to be right next to him, in this wondrous journey of life.

I cheered loudly the first two minutes of 294. And as he blocked her way one last time I declared to myself everyone needs a little teasing and flirting to brighten up their lives.

Wish the lightness had prevailed and persisted for the remaining minutes of the episode. The rest left me disturbed and upset and for once even the suave Mr Sobti could not save it.

On Anjali's anniversary many many episodes ago a fresh young girl had spoken about what a marriage truly meant. She was just a stranger, on contract to serve sweets in the function, yet her words were not interfering, but beautiful and heart warming. Today however the well intentioned caring Khushi came across as a bit preachy to me. She meant no harm, only the very best for her di, but still maybe it was the timing. It irked me.
OK I think what she said was practical thing. Her timing was wrong as Anjali was acrimonious to her, so any nice words from her mouth would sound bitter. but what she said was absolutely correct, that this time of crisis only this baby can give her the happiness and reason to live. she was not having food, she forgot that she needed food not for herself only but for the baby too.

ASR is pragmatic enough to realize di might not want to go to the doctor with him. And without much ado the younger brother steps up to take the responsibility of di. Quite often one doesn't need to talk much with someone you are comfortable around.

Then started the panic of the missing di. Nani was again a little off character, atleast to me it felt that way. Perhaps, her worry for her granddaughter made her lose control. And mamiji was unforgivable and rude towards the Gupta sisters. Though grudgingly, I have to admit she did have a point. It might have helped Anjali more if Khushi had brought mamiji to take care of her.

There was one split second which was profound.. Khushi wants to accompany Arnavji.. And nani stops her.. ASR consoles her with his hand on her shoulder. A subtle but powerful gesture. He is a man of action. No point in arguing and hurting nani in the present state, he knows his wife is sensible enough to stay back, but he also knows it must hurt her. And so in that gesture I saw him support her. Tell her he understood, but he needed her to stay calm and be strong.
I absolutely loved both of them, just a sign of good life partner, a perfect husband-wife connection.

Another lady was anything but strong, however. Anjali's decision to kill her unborn child, the very child she has longed to hold in her arms, is not just a symptom of bad writing, but a result of decades of women all over forgetting to live for themselves. We love with all our heart, work with all sincerity, and in the midst of this we tend to forget ourselves. Our worth as individuals is what that gets lost. Sure it is extreme in Anjali, who was brittle from inside. And sure this course of story was uncalled for. Still she has needed validation of her worth in the adoration she thought she received from her husband. And the very things and the very life that was precious to her lost its meaning when she thought she was alone. She was no one alone, and that is the most heart breaking tragedy.

The writers could have shown ASR's di a strong woman. Somehow that would have felt more in character with the smiling sophisticated smart woman we met in the beginning of IPK. The woman ASR had called on stage, full of pride and love. But both the children of Ratna Mallik had suffered scars from their parents death. For one it was visible, he wore it almost like a talisman, it propelled him to achieve, to fight for survival. The other hid it behind shrouds of belief in the almighty and goodness of people around her. For the brother, the more people tried to break him, the more he took charge of life refusing to give up. But the sister, she broke down and lost herself when faced with the unthinkable.
very insightful thought Rhea. Anjali lost so much in her life that she preffered to live in her delusional world or Arnav on the other hand was too pragmatic and became overprotective to his mother like sister. but in this whole scenario Anjali didn't seem weak only, but seemed very selfish.

By the way, a trivia, and thanks to google I checked this, in Indian law a wife does not need consent from her husband if she decides on an abortion.

nice take Rhea.
the begining scene was surely a treat to watch. I always enjoy this flirtatious ASR. But Anajli's drama was a bit too much.
Good that you found out the laws of abortion. But what abortion? So far I know abortion is not possible at the stage of 7th month of pregnancy. she actually had to kill the premature baby inside her womb.
All the blue lines stood out for me.
My comments are in purple.

Anjali, what to say.. no thought into what this earlier sensitive and sensible woman was saying/ doing... there was an forcibly imposed screen space ... almost how Khushi was pushed onto the stage in the first epi and didn't know how to walk/ what to do...she fell down.. what happened to Anjali's character...

thanks, indu.

fabulous comment on the anjali situation, indu... yes... a forced and spotlit screen space with script written for exactly whom no one knows.

i have never met a raizada too, i think i read somewhere it's the name of a clan/community belonging to gujrat, rajasthan somewhere there... well, mine is a delhi boy and no other raizada is allowed to happen in my life... ha ha ha your poor real world raizada...

solitude... and detached attachment... both there and make him beautiful. a curious selflessness almost... so clean from the inside, you can take this character anywhere yet he will remain pristine. the actor who got that and worked to convey this... i do hope he gets a chance to be all he can be in this zalim ad.

Bhavii,

I agree to an extent, although I see Anjali more as ziddi , stubborn, than as weak, If she really wants to do some thing she can.. how she was introduced to us initially. She would bring back Khushi knowing well her brother absolutely cant bear her sight, and even balckmailed Khushi with that 3 lakh contract, She does lover her bro and care for Kh, but did it nevertheless becos she thought it was the right thing to do.
She wouldn't really mind expressing her deepest displeasure at asr- KH sudden wedding. Why I am saying is, she wants to take things the way she LIKES than the the way they ARE...
asr'sis almost a fatherly protectiveness for her.. if she wanted to see what Shyam is.. she would have.. she just wants to be in denial.. enjoyed that..

Was interrupted while typing this, came back to edit.

Agree, asr should have investigated, not just when khushi told him but much earlier to that when shaym told him he didn't love rani sahiba at all. ASR had all the time, money, resources in the world to investigate what all shyam had been doing last few months, years between their hate wedding to Laxmi nagar terrace revelation, he didn't do... he just married her brought her home.. and did nothing...I didn't like that either.. unlike what he did for Sheetal over night later on.
In between the two siblings, where as anjali unfortunately came across as very self absorbed for NOT considering their claim that her husband was her brother's abductor, he was being sacrificial in sacrificing his love for his sister's sake.. he came close to loosing Khushi twice becos of anjali / or her marraige, where as she had complained her brother to be swaying in his marital bliss . i see them poles apart...
and, Anjali needed a full blown proofs to know about her husband . he didn't need any...

But yes, both siblings are stubborn in general.. a royal air in that...
