Now I know a lot of you without even reading this are going to make your judgments and go all smart ass on me or just go holier than thou but seriously I give a rat's ass to that.

I am going to say my piece here which I would have had it been for anyone and not just mistyrains but before that I want to make it clear I didnt vote in this contest, I certainly didnt participate and I hold no grudge against the author of the contested entry (which I had to check and read through by the way and then I remembered reading it as a part of this contest and I think the author posted it separately once the contest was over too)...so yes no grudge against you mints23 and I hope you take this in the right spirit and nor am I taking the side of the TM, the judge etc.

All I am doing is putting forth my POV which people are doing in abundance here anyway.

"Love is..." is not a good story grammar wise in any case. I dont want to pin point instances here and embarrass anyone but you guys who are levelling charges against people you know nothing about have taken this argument down to such a level that one has to be harshly objective here and for that I am truly sorry mints and I hope you can forgive me and take this as a positive experience.

The grammar of the story is severely flawed. It has incorrect sentence constructions, lack of use of full stops and commas and relies heavily on ellipses. It also misses out on connectives a lot of times.

And these are all mistakes that can easily be fixed with time and practice but what you guys have done here is cloaked character assasination and are being backhanded in your 'questions' to the TM and the said judge. The TM was very clear about readers' vote being a bonus and judges decision being final, why forget all of that just cos your fav story didnt win?! Thats just preposterous and not to mention kindergarten-esque behaviour.

Also if one just wants to start trouble by comparing the judges scores and what not, why not point out discrepancies in scoring of another OS (Entry 2). BUT no one should not do that because Zehra had her reasons to score it low just like mistyrains may have hers. Who are we to question their authority or their subjectivity?!

Also if you are looking at one/two particular discrepancies, why not also take into account the fact that the judges have scored all the other OS' more or less the same?! Its just plain unfair and stirring trouble where there is (or at least should be) none by highlighting only things that benefit your view.

Again, not taking any sides and just putting forth my view.

And once again, I am terribly sorry mints if this hurts you but please dont take it otherwise. You wrote a beautiful OS which could have been even better with a little more care and that will come from practice and never giving up after failed attempts :)

*Added

Apologies to the TM, mistyrains and anyone else who may feel offended that I took up this issue the way I did.

Sona, I know you wouldnt want me here but I am not doing this for you. I am doing this because its wrong to paint anyone in such a bad light just cos you didnt get what you want and discount all of their talent and morality in the process.

And to question the TM about posting judges name beforehand...are you serious?! I bet the same lot would have been questioning her about not posting them had it been the opposite! Its just a case of sour grapes as I see it and in this little smear campaign, you have completely discounted the TM's efforts. Good going.

Hey AT!

I really dont know how exactly to respond to this comment. It was sweet of you to take the time out to read the said entry and respond to it. Though I understand you didnt do it for me or any of the people here who had questions, you did it for your friend. Fair enough. But you made an effort and that counts. Seriously. However, the point is I had raised the question to the TM/ Orange Judge. Though your post is insightful, it is not helpful since you are not the TM nor the person who judged the said entry.

Coming back to what you posted. I will be the first one to admit that my knowledge of the English language is fairly limited. With that limited knowledge I came across only two instances of grammatical errors. AT if my intention was to indulge in character assassination of the said judge I would have read every OS which was scored more and even with my limited knowledge I would have tried to list down how every other OS was grammatically worse than the one scored low. That would have been questioning someone's efforts and integrity. I didnt even read any other OS. I had no 'hidden agenda' of proving some point here.

I wouldn't do the above also because not only do I not function that way but also that would mean questioning Judge Orange's sense of judgement and fairness. Judgement- The fact that she has been chosen to judge says a lot about her. Also, (if it might count) I read her damn it! I know she writes well! I have asked her to get published. She doesn't listen! Fairness- This OS contest is no National Express Highway's government's tender where if Judge Orange decides to pass over one quotation over another she would be in a position to win favors. I know today if she logged in from her usual account, tomorrow she won't be logging in from some premium account making us shield our eyes from the blinding light of her profile 😃. I know she has no reason to be biased/unfair.

All I did was ask a question about how scores for grammar at least have been allotted. I just wanted that for my understanding. AT tell me, TM/ Judge ko nahin poonchu toh kisko poonchu?

If by asking a question I have raised a finger at someone's character then that was not my intention. Her character, anybody's character, is far more important than all the OS contests on IF put together. *Edited: Actually IF is not even a speck in comparison to someone's character. Koi comparison hi nahi ho sakta.*

AT one final thing. Now I am not talking about myself but the other people who have raised issues or questions. I haven't seen the whole thread. This is based on what little I have seen. I don't think anyone here was questioning her motivation to give scores in a particular way. They had doubts. They only asked for clarity. Bas...

So I got kind of angry. That's that. No hard feelings with you. Now when I think of it calmly, I shouldn't have posted that whole message only.

I was actually about to respond to your note when I saw this.

I am about to tell you something. You have every right to ignore what I just say. I have been a full time elder sister for close to 24 years. At times, it is hard to step out of that role. However, I understand that I am no one to you and you can choose to just pass by this post of guru gyan. I won't mind. Really.

Some wise man once said, "The first pancake is always lumpy" You can snort and tell me that I am not in your shoes. I didnt go through what you did. You know, recently I started learning how to ride a scooter. I am someone who doesn't even know how to ride a cycle. I didn't know the 'b' of balance. I fell a couple of times from a moving bike, my clothes were ripped, I got gashes, I bled (all in public), I cried (this I did in privacy)... and I experienced one of the most horrifying experiences of my life when an active bike twisted around my legs. But you know what was worse? Every other person on the road coming up to me and telling me 'do this, don't do that'. Actually the worse was when kids half my age and height coming to me and telling me that I need to do this and that. I would have only one answer, 'I am trying. I actually am'. The only reason why I shared this with you is to let you know though our experiences differed, the underlying structure is the same. So, I understand.

Everyone over here who gave you suggestions (not instructions) knows that it is easier said than done. They offered in good faith, hoping that you will accept in good grace and that it will ease out the process the next time you try. Whether you will try the next time is up to you. I will say, why not? Isn't the first pancake ALWAYS lumpy?

I have more to say. Please feel free to ignore. I won't mind.

Your note made me feel that you regretted both posting the results and to a great extent, even starting this contest. For the former, who is to say that 'the road not taken' would have resulted in a better scenario? Who has ever satisfactorily answered 'if only'? For the latter, isn't the first pancake always LUMPY??

Can I say more?

People are putting forth to you their questions/ issues/ doubts/ suggestions/ random discussions because you are the organiser of this contest. Are they labelling you as evil or incompetent? No! Hum sab itne hi himmatwale (On IPK forum you need himmat more than any other personality trait 😃) hotay toh khud contests na shuru kartay? Are they questioning your credibility/ veracity? Hell no! All of us had something to say and we said it to you as you are the karta dharta and annapurna of this thread. Some people request while others demand answers. Peg it down to individual differences. Nothing more. I am sure no one had the intention to harass you, including me. I have not been a part of this contest at all yet I can see you have tried your best to keep everything as transparent as possible. All of us know it was your first time and isn't the first PANCAKE always lumpy?

Lastly the last thing. If you read everything so far then please excuse more of my intrusion.

I get you were getting fed up with the Entry 20 Brigade (no offence to anyone, I m a part of it too). DND, look at it this way. You made people feel. None of us here know each other. Different people from different parts of the world converged in their praise of that one story. Feel proud! You think we went overboard? Sorry for that. Par yeh toh dekho, in today's world where apathy is the norm, people took out time to speak about something... anything... Even members who up until yesterday weren't voicing out their opinions which were contradictory to the trend on the thread for Entry 20, were speaking yesterday. 'Only dead fishes flow with the current' and you brought out all the live and kicking fishes out too. So, all in all don't be disheartened. Isn't the FIRST pancake always lumpy? ( I know the last line doesn't mean anything here. But I had said it for all the pointers. So here too 😃)

Phew! I am done. I am sorry it got too long and preachy. As I said before. Ignore if you want to. I will seriously not mind.

@ Manjari, I'm sorry for let you feel like that, but put yourself into the writer of entry n. 20 or the entry that got 15 votes from the reader or into the shoes of those readers that took the time to read all the entries and vote whole heartily for entry n. 20. How you will feel seeing an entry that just got 2 votes and win something? I'm not against the writer, I know her.

You said it from the beginning that the judges' votes are more important, okay, I know that, and I would have said nothing if the list of the awards was would have ended after the best OS of each category, because in this way the judge did their job, they done everything which was fallign under their responsabilities, for me their job was over. Okay you wanted to mention also those stories which got a lot of points, okay no problems, but why you didn't thought about the story that was the Run Up if we keep in mind the readers vote, why again just thinking about what they got from the judges?

You know what I felt seeing it, that why the readers had taken their precious time to read and vote when their vote is not that much considered. I know I sound harsh, but this is the reality.

And yeah maybe doing all this I hurt the winners, but frankly speaking, such ko kabhi shupaya nahi jah sakta, if I would have got that, I would have never been happy to get something that someone deserved more than me, we live in a democracy and in a democracy the voice belongs to the people (readers)

And yeah I'm saying it here, because I don't fear saying what I feel, because I don't live on others money but thanks to God. So I'm saying it again, from my POV the score of judge n. 3 were random, if this judge wish to clear my doubt then I will be more than happy to know that. Because giving to a story 5 when the other two have given 9 and 8 it seems unfair.

I started it and I stopped it.

So my advice let's stop it here.

And Manjari, everyone does mistakes, I'm the first one, but the best thing is learning from them not crying on them, I know you didn't did it on purpose, as you were doing all according to what you were having in your mind, so I don't have any grudge against you and the same goes to the other.

For hurting you I'm sorry.

See, I'm not hurt. I am just disappointed and yes, pissed but there is a valid reason. You are NOT the judge. you have posted things against our judges. You have given your opinion where you shouldn't have! If you don't remember let me show it to you :

My opinion:

the run up and the winner should have been selected considering solely and exclusively the readers vote, because they took the pain to read all the OSs and vote too.
And the special mentiosn should have been given by the Judges, not always to the same stories but to the stories that didn't got too much votes but they deserved a few words

P.S. if you think that i'm not able to take the effect that i didn't won then you are wrong because i was the most happiest person when i got to know that i didn't won, and mera Rabb gawa hai iss baat ka, because i would have never loved to win with something that i personally didn't loved that much.

Secondly, you blamed me for not running this contest smoothly? Don'y remember? :

I think the biggest mistake that was made by the organizer was to say the names of the judges the day the contest was announced.

I think the right thing to do was not to say who were the judges, so no one would have known, and no one would have had doubts.
And the organizer should have told to the judges to not disclose to anyone that they were judging the contest, so that everything would be gone smoothly.

You would have been the first to tell me the names of the judges!

AND the WORST thing you could have said was in this comment.

@Red, bold.

HOW could you say that for a judge? There is a code of conduct for participants. you cannot question the judge and to say that a judge randomly scored the entries is intolerable! you are accusing a judge of foul play! She spent her time on this and rated it acc. to her and you are directly tell her that she is WRONG? What authority do you have to say that? this is wrong.

You said you started it so you would stop it? But you didn't stop it. You just said WHAT I SAID IS STILL RIGHT. It doesn't matter what you think. That's what you just said.

@Bold.Blue.

My contest. my rules and I will run it the way I want to. Did I say I would give the votes of readers equal importance as judges? NO. I had said that judges scores will be given ATMOST importance and that's ALL. Votes are a bonus! I still added a separate award for the votes! I cannot just change the way the contest was going! If you wanted a contest where the readers decide then this isn't the place for you! That's what I have to say.

ALL OSes were nice but you cannot just get stuck on one OS and just because you liked it so much it doesn't have to win!

The writer of the OS is happy. She has no complains. She accepted the scores and will improve. You are making matters worse and accusing a JUDGE!

hey!
Manjari, you did a really good job. please don't be disappointed!
this OS contest was very well organized. I enjoyed it all over. All the 26 os's were extremely good, some funny, some tragic, some romantic. :)
these type of discrepancies occur in every contest. winning posts few, participants many. so ofcourse there'll be some tu-tu main-main right?!

Im not completely aware of this issue so won't comment on that. But from what I get, judges, or even the readers were not aware of which os belongs to which writer. right? it was only during the results we came to know. then how can there be any partiality? maybe i have missed something. correct me if im wrong.:)

So please do not be sad or disheartened. you did a wonderful job. yes, im saying that again.and its completely true. so smile. 😊

@ Bold brown: this is pubblic forum and all of us has the right to say what we think, and i have nothing to add to this.

@ bold brown underlined: i didn't get you. and if you are talking about that thing that i said you need more then 2 judges then i didn't remember myself saying chose this jugde or the other one, i just said 2 were really less. Is you are refering that i would have asked who are the judges then you are wrong because i would have never.

@ bold brown italic: see i said what i felt, and i would have said it even if i was not a partecipant, and secondly, have you ever saw shows or contets in TV, well check them because even there people have the right to voice their opinion so why we cannot here, and let me say you something more, i as not the only one who thought that..

@ bold brown italic and underlined: Got it next time will keep that in mind. We just asked a question and wanted just an answer. we were not accusing you and believe me, if my posts were offensive yous are not the less.
And with this i really want to close this chapter here, if someone is not ready to got our POV to them what's the need to waste our time, you we didn't aked you to change the things but just a question, that's it. And we got your POV too, this matter could have stopped when you would have replied saying something "okay guys next time will keep this too in mind" nothing more. And i think this is not even offensive.
