I try to stay away from the controversies surrounding this forum which are more times than not leaning towards a side stupider than stupid but I came across this issue today and lo and behold what do I see it involves a dear friend and a brilliant author in her own right.
Now I know a lot of you without even reading this are going to make your judgments and go all smart ass on me or just go holier than thou but seriously I give a rat's ass to that.I am going to say my piece here which I would have had it been for anyone and not just mistyrains but before that I want to make it clear I didnt vote in this contest, I certainly didnt participate and I hold no grudge against the author of the contested entry (which I had to check and read through by the way and then I remembered reading it as a part of this contest and I think the author posted it separately once the contest was over too)...so yes no grudge against you mints23 and I hope you take this in the right spirit and nor am I taking the side of the TM, the judge etc.All I am doing is putting forth my POV which people are doing in abundance here anyway."Love is..." is not a good story grammar wise in any case. I dont want to pin point instances here and embarrass anyone but you guys who are levelling charges against people you know nothing about have taken this argument down to such a level that one has to be harshly objective here and for that I am truly sorry mints and I hope you can forgive me and take this as a positive experience. The grammar of the story is severely flawed. It has incorrect sentence constructions, lack of use of full stops and commas and relies heavily on ellipses. It also misses out on connectives a lot of times. And these are all mistakes that can easily be fixed with time and practice but what you guys have done here is cloaked character assasination and are being backhanded in your 'questions' to the TM and the said judge. The TM was very clear about readers' vote being a bonus and judges decision being final, why forget all of that just cos your fav story didnt win?! Thats just preposterous and not to mention kindergarten-esque behaviour. Also if one just wants to start trouble by comparing the judges scores and what not, why not point out discrepancies in scoring of another OS (Entry 2). BUT no one should not do that because Zehra had her reasons to score it low just like mistyrains may have hers. Who are we to question their authority or their subjectivity?!Also if you are looking at one/two particular discrepancies, why not also take into account the fact that the judges have scored all the other OS' more or less the same?! Its just plain unfair and stirring trouble where there is (or at least should be) none by highlighting only things that benefit your view.Again, not taking any sides and just putting forth my view. And once again, I am terribly sorry mints if this hurts you but please dont take it otherwise. You wrote a beautiful OS which could have been even better with a little more care and that will come from practice and never giving up after failed attempts :)
*AddedApologies to the TM, mistyrains and anyone else who may feel offended that I took up this issue the way I did.Sona, I know you wouldnt want me here but I am not doing this for you. I am doing this because its wrong to paint anyone in such a bad light just cos you didnt get what you want and discount all of their talent and morality in the process. And to question the TM about posting judges name beforehand...are you serious?! I bet the same lot would have been questioning her about not posting them had it been the opposite! Its just a case of sour grapes as I see it and in this little smear campaign, you have completely discounted the TM's efforts. Good going.
Hey AT!
I really dont know how exactly to respond to this comment. It was sweet of you to take the time out to read the said entry and respond to it. Though I understand you didnt do it for me or any of the people here who had questions, you did it for your friend. Fair enough. But you made an effort and that counts. Seriously. However, the point is I had raised the question to the TM/ Orange Judge. Though your post is insightful, it is not helpful since you are not the TM nor the person who judged the said entry.
Coming back to what you posted. I will be the first one to admit that my knowledge of the English language is fairly limited. With that limited knowledge I came across only two instances of grammatical errors. AT if my intention was to indulge in character assassination of the said judge I would have read every OS which was scored more and even with my limited knowledge I would have tried to list down how every other OS was grammatically worse than the one scored low. That would have been questioning someone's efforts and integrity. I didnt even read any other OS. I had no 'hidden agenda' of proving some point here.
I wouldn't do the above also because not only do I not function that way but also that would mean questioning Judge Orange's sense of judgement and fairness. Judgement- The fact that she has been chosen to judge says a lot about her. Also, (if it might count) I read her damn it! I know she writes well! I have asked her to get published. She doesn't listen! Fairness- This OS contest is no National Express Highway's government's tender where if Judge Orange decides to pass over one quotation over another she would be in a position to win favors. I know today if she logged in from her usual account, tomorrow she won't be logging in from some premium account making us shield our eyes from the blinding light of her profile 😃. I know she has no reason to be biased/unfair.
All I did was ask a question about how scores for grammar at least have been allotted. I just wanted that for my understanding. AT tell me, TM/ Judge ko nahin poonchu toh kisko poonchu?
If by asking a question I have raised a finger at someone's character then that was not my intention. Her character, anybody's character, is far more important than all the OS contests on IF put together. *Edited: Actually IF is not even a speck in comparison to someone's character. Koi comparison hi nahi ho sakta.*
AT one final thing. Now I am not talking about myself but the other people who have raised issues or questions. I haven't seen the whole thread. This is based on what little I have seen. I don't think anyone here was questioning her motivation to give scores in a particular way. They had doubts. They only asked for clarity. Bas...
