Nice post Lazy.
I hate when an author stretches the story needlessly. And also when a writer posts new stories everyday without completing the old ones.

Another thing which annoys me a lot is irregularity in posting the updates. Thanks to my Ghajni memory I don't even remember what happened in last update and I am too lazy to go through the last chapter.

And that thing you said about writers who post rude notes, I completely agree with you. Because of this thing I have left a lot many stories which I loved reading initially but lost interest because of writer's annoying behavior and yes constant demands of long comments and like.

I cannot connect with a story that hasn't been updated for months. Since I read so many stories, it becomes difficult to keep tab.

I don't like to read stories belonging to certain genres like horror and also those which mainly focus on sex. It sometimes gives me a feeling like I am watching po*n.

I start reading a story only if I am impressed with the language and writing style.

Too much of description is a no no.

It is difficult for me to read hindi dialogues in English. It's kind if weird.

I am biased towards barun and hence I find it a little hypocritical to appreciate works of author who bash him but write undying love stories on Arshi, because I have this habit of visualising the scenes I read in a story.

I don't like when an author starts to write on IF and after a few updates shift their work to a blog and share the link only to those who have commented regularly. I don't believe in writing just 'awesome' in the comment, when I don't find myself adequate enough to make critical comments on the genre (eg, English literature, politics), but enjoy reading it.

I too don't like when authors start elaborate chat with certain readers, who are mostly writers too, making the others feel less just because they can't/don't write.

Oooh interesting topic Zehra!

Here goes my list:

1) I will not read stories of authors who are rude to their readers, no matter how good the story is. I always feel like the author is looking down at me in a condescending manner even if I try to read those stories, as if I am not "intelligent" enough to interpret his/her stories, or incapable of leaving meaningful comments. So yeah, rude know-it-all authors notes are a big turn off.

2) Absolutely cannot read non ArHi pairings, especially those where Arnav or Khushi are actually in love with a third person, like true love, hamesha wala. Call me shallow, but I just cannot bring myself to read such stories. I can read stories with tragic endings, or where both Arnav and Khushi have been/are in relationships with other people, but they have to be in love with each other ultimately.

3) Demand for a certain number of likes/certain number of pages. If your work is good, I will be compelled to leave a comment, if not for every chapter than every few chapters at least, you don't need to arm-twist me into doing so.

4) Extra violent Arnav. I am sorry but there is nothing "hot" about rape and abuse. I cannot read these kinds of stories at all.

5) Irregular updates: See for this kind of stories, I just wait till the author completes the FF before reading it 'cause I don't like the idea of waiting more than a month for each update.

No offense intended to any author whose work I have commented on, if you have seen a comment from me in your stories, then I absolutely adore your work. I know I am a bit stingy with comments too, but that's only because I don't like commenting unless I have something substantial to say, which only happens every 3-4 chapters. :)

That was a much needed topic
We as readers need to connect with the characters and the WRITER also cause IF being an interactive forum lets them interact !It is not like we buy a book and read it !
So if the writer does not let us know about her absense from the forum or does visit regularly but has not updated for a while , it feels rude !
Also if the writers keep on putting conditions which are unrealistic puts one off like if a writer is getting a number of likes and then she starts mentioning that no update till double the likes .
Keeping a time limit is acceptable because we all have a life outside IF too .
I hope it all made sense

@Nice Post Zehra! 😃 But I don't agree to all your points so commenting on each! 😛

a. Updating Regularity:Here I agree totally..Some writers, start ton of stories and then don't give updates! 😕 I've come across to a writer who starts new FFs every week, leaving the others behind with 1/2 update! So I don't read the writer's stories anymore! Of course, not everybody can update every day but at least once a week, except if he/she gives a proper reason i.e. exams or personal reasons!

b. Format: I do not agree completely here..😆 There are some writers who can't write really nicely like you and many others do but they want to write and share their fantasy with others. I think be reading their works, you encourage them so I don't mind reading dialogues stories but if the grammar is really bad.. I stop at a point. If you check the first chapter of my first FF.. it has many errors 😆 bit with the time passing.. I realized my mistakes and corrected them! 😛 So the format is not the main problem.. if a story/concept is nice.. I read the story! 😃

c. Hypocrisy: Umm.. yup! I don't like when a writer asks for a particular number of likes and comments and if she/he doesn't get.. no updates! 😕

d. Once bitten twice shy: same here. I don't like incomplete works at all! 🥱

e. Bias:
Umm.. I agree! 😆

f. A non-ArHi story: Sorry, I can't bring myself to read a story which is not on ArHi. COMPLETELY AGREE! I cannot imagine any other couple while reading or writing! 😳

g. Blogs:
Nup.. I don't mind reading on blogs but I comment on IF. 😛

h. Illogical:
Umm.. yah. Every story should be a bit realistic.. few stories are beyond my imagination! 😆

i. Rude: Agree!

j. Plagiarism: TOTALLY AGREE.

k. Acknowledgement from the author:
Well.. a writer cannot reply to each comment but I press like button and dedicate every chapter to one of my reader to let 'em know I always read their comments. 😃

l: The Author's Bias: First of all.. the writers shouldn't. The story thread isn't there for spamming.. I came across few threads where they chat and ugg.. I don't read the story anymore!

m: Complicated sentence construction:
I agree! 😆 I like to read when someone describes a scene or so but when it's tooo long.. I skip! 🥱 Some writers.. don't add dialogues so it's impossible concentrating on the story if it's full of plain words without dialogues! 😆

@To your end note: I guess I mentioned two writers (hints) so I apologize 😳 but it's true..
@To EVERY writer: Please finish your stories and then start new (except if you start a short Story, updating other stories regularly) and don't chat in the Thread!

U RAISE SOME VERY GOOD POINTS.

SOME GOOD TIPS FROM THE READERS POINT OF VIEW

I HAVE TO SAY THAT THERE R A FEW VERY TALENTED WRITERS AND I SAY A FEW CZ I SIMPLY DO NOT HAVE TIME TO FOLLOW ALL STORIES THAT R WRITTEN
(IM SURE THERE R PLENTY MORE TALENTED WRITERS OUT THERE THAT IV NOT COME ACROSS YET) WHO'S WORK IS SO WORTH THE IRREGULAR UPDATES.

ALSO I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT THE ONE THING THAT PUTS ME OFF READING A STORY IS IF THE LEAD CHARACTERS R TOTALLY DIFFERENT TO THE SHOW.
THIS IS NOT TO CRITISISE THE WRITER OR THEIR WORK. THERE MAY BE OTHER PPL WHO LIKE TO READ THAT SORT OF STORY BUT ITS NOT MY CUP OF TEA

ONE PARTICULAR NOTE FOR URSELF, SOME OF THE STORIES IN THE 'STORY OF THE WEEK' SEGMENTS WERE VERY GOOD STORIES. IT WOULD BE REALLY GOOD IF U COULD CONTINUE WITH IT.

For me, my reasons would be option B, F, H and J. All of these play equal parts in why I stop reading a story, or don't even start reading the story.

Firstly i dont read a story wic is written in hindi. Because i cant understand.

If i read a story of a new writer (its old writer but its my first time following her) i will never send her buddy request..

A story wic is written by barun's basher 😕 always prefer staying a way..

Sometimes like button dont work.. N its happen with me always.. If im following that writer i prefer putting a note

P.s. My like button not working..

But sometimes i do forgot to put such notes 😕

i dont like to read a story wer a writer quoting her friends n ignoring her readers comment. It felt hurt bze my comment been neglacted 😭

Only readers on Arhi FF - which will be my first and last.. Hope so😆

Im highlighting this

[When a writer saw a big or popular writer start to follow her story.. The writer will be on cloud nine n all her thread or updates dedicated to the famous writer. Even she will highlight the writer name.. Oh thanks for reading my story n so on.. Yaar she jz forgot her 60+ reader for jz one famous writer.. 😕 ]

Number of thread increase not with the comments of the reader but quoting each other..

Wen i find out a story been discontinue i will prefer spamming her thread rather then pm-ing her. Who know later she scold me if i insist her to continue 😆

And im not a regular reader like others.. But still i read story on arshi but only selected one.. Which is full of twist n turn wic can never predict.

i like to read a story wic is MATURE... Not full with mature stuff/content.. But with Mature concept.

Always prefer staying away from the writer who has more then 10+ stories but still coming up with new one.
