a. Updating Regularity: If a story is not updated regularly, I tend to either not start it or leave it midway because I can't wait for a very long time. But if the author puts up regular notes for his/her absence, I will stick to that story because I feel the connect! And I understand everyone has a personal life and not everyone can update every other week but a constant link with the author always helps :)... depends on the story... if it is grippy and worth a wait i dont discount it. and here everyone one has their own life. I am not defending myself though...

b. Format: Honestly i cannot read SMS lingo... because while figuring out the actual word the whole excitement is gone. 🤔

Also, if the story is written in the dialogue form, without it being a play, I can't read it either :
Oh well SMS lingo is a big turn off for me as i dont understand a word without vowel and the whole interest in reading is gone treasure hunting.

c. Hypocrisy: If I know a particular author asks for likes/comments/reviews/encourages the readers to speak up in each of his/her updates but silently reads other authors' works (by only pressing the 'Like' button) then I will not read anything by him/her. Yes is it one of the very solid reason why i dont read some stories which have these particular clauses. except one or two i dont read. no matter how good they are.

d. Once bitten twice shy: If I know that a particular author has left one story incomplete, I will never pick up another story by that author because I know that that author only starts new stories without ever ending them! Doesnot really matter to me as far as there is good grippy storyline.

e. Bias:
I am a human and I tend to be biased. I can't be neutral always. So I have a tendency to not read a story by an author whom I do not like. I know it is not correct on my part but I cannot help it :( no that can never be a criteria... for me prologue/teaser and chapter one is all that hooks me to a story... i used to read someones work whom i never got along with.. me not liking that person doesnot stop me from appreciating her/his creativity.

f. A non-ArHi story: Sorry, I can't bring myself to read a story which is not on ArHi. a big yes on IF... i dont read a non ArHi story. thought i have started a non arhi story. but there the character names are different. but while writing i imagine B and S and so does my 100 readers 😆

g. Blogs:
I am not comfortable commenting on blogs. So if a story is on the blog with no corresponding IF thread on it, I won't read it... never thought on those lines. never read a blog story... except OS by desi...

h. Illogical:
I have left a lot of stories (even completed ones) if they don't follow logic anymore. I know, no story is perfect but I cannot help but get focussed on that one particular big glaring mistake in the story :( I am not picky... i would like to read mostly romantic stories... but if the narration goes down the hill them erm! well i dont read... but sometimes fantasy world is integrating

i. Rude: I can't read a story by an author who is rude to others/readers in general. I know his/her attitude has nothing to do with the story he/she is writing. But if I find rude notes above and below the updates, then no I won't read the story! YES

j. Plagiarism: If a member has plagiarised once, there is a tendency that he/she will do so again! So I won't read anything by that member. I know we should believe in second chances but I can't bring myself to do that. I hate people who steal... i will defo stop reading.

k. Acknowledgement from the author:
When I comment on a story, the least I expect from the author is to press the 'Like' button on my comment to let me know that the extra time I took out to comment (instead of being silent) was worth it. And if not that may be a scrap once in 5 comments! If I see my comments are not acknowledged, I will stop reading (because I would rather not read and not comment than read and not comment)... erm! yes and no... to me i do that coz it is an acknowledgment and to let them know that their comments are valuable for me and that i read their comments. but if i read someone elses work and comment i dont expect them to read. it depends on them how involved that person is with his/her readers.

l: The Author's Bias: If I see the author having a gala party at his/her thread with his/her friends, ignoring the other readers, it is a total turn off for me. I feel bad! never faced it so cannot tell. i generally ignore non important things.

m: Complicated sentence construction:
I can't read a story which uses overly non-regular words so that every time I read a story I have to sit with a dictionary! And I don't like too much of metaphors! Yes kind off... as i dont have a good grasp in english... so if i dont understand line formation and words...i cannot open a dictionary beside me to refer 😆.

I agree with you about if a readers who write a long comment then it is important the writers do replay back because it is important for the reader to know that the writer do read and will replay if the comment is a long and good:)

but I dont think a writer can replay every single comment...

Some writers ask to readers long comments. But what I think if update is deserved the comments will definitely long. Sometimes when I write to comment words will flow easily. Its just because of that update.

Another thing some stories to increase number of chapters. I don't know why ... I feel irritated.

If I don't like story line or way of writing ... I won't its amazing.

Once I read a story. I had read her previous works and always comments. When she started a new story I found its concept repeated. Even the dialogue a d atmosphere I didn't expect it from her. When I comments I told frankly ... but reply was too rude.

Well I personally cannot read stories if its not updates regularly otherwise I forget what the story is about. However if they do write a note then I don't mind. At least we're not left hanging.

Also the story has to be written well and flow. I have read stories that are jumping from so many different places I'm left wondering what the hell is happening. Obviously I wouldn't carry on reading those.

And the comment thing. Well I think it's only fair that the readers comment after all writing and then pming is quite time consuming. And personally it's my way of appreciating the writers talent and thanking te writer.

I don't mind reading on the blog but if the IF link is not there then it's quite a hassle commenting.

Oh and it has to be an Arhi story fr me otherwise NOT interested!

For me it will be lack of updates

I remember there was this author who used to start a new story every other week.
After starting a new one she used to forget the old one and never used to update it. Her stories were of suspense genre always so readers were always left wondering as what will happen next???

I have very bitter experience with that particular author
I have read 4-5 stories of her incomplete stories.

I hate when a writer is rude and it makes me to stop reading her work...the writers should be nice with the readers and if they are starting a band new story they should tell to their readers that in the beginging so everyone knows...

Thanks Lazyleaves for this post as this was needed.

I love reading stories on my two favourite fictional characters-Arnav and Khushi. I am not generally a very demanding reader and enjoy most of the Os,SS, FFs on IF but few I do not touch with a barge pole. They are :
  • Stories where I cannot relate to the Arnav and Khushi of the show.I mean,to me ASR is a macho, suave, rich, handsome, man of the world...a college going ASR ??😕--not my cup of tea. Call me traditional, regressive auntie -I don't mind. Similarly,a rich, domineering Khushi --😕 To me KKG is the epitome of goodheartedness and sankapan.😊
  • Stories by writers who start the story on IF and then shift it to a restricted private blog to which I don't have a link and is refused when asked for the same .It leaves us, readers hanging.I know plagiarism is an issue on IF but then why advertise or start the story on IF ??? Is it to tantalise us ? If you have a private blog and your own set of loyal readers, post there and don't advertise on IF.We,those who don't have access feel very bad and cheated. Most of us are not plagiarisers and such rudeness hurts.
  • Stories by those authors who don't update regularly.I know most of them are busy and they take time out of their busy schedule to post, but if you don't update regularly, readers lose track of what's happening. If an update comes after 2-3 months..sorry,you lose most of your readers.
  • Stories by authors who are aggressive and demanding...you know... "no comment,no update" or "300 likes/20 pages of comments and then you get an update". I mean, even we the readers have busy schedules and take time out of asli duniya to read..at least be polite to your readers.Sometimes life is too busy to write detailed comments and we just peek on to IF to read the latest of our fav stories and such cases where you are threatened, leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
  • Dark FFs where ASR is brutal. ASR in our show was a softie,a velvet inside that steel like exterior--I like it that way.
  • Proper English with a good style of writing is a must. Some of the writers do not have a good grip on the language and I lose interest.I usually prefer the English versions than the Hindi ones even though I am quite proficient in Hindi...just an idiosyncracy of mine😊
  • Arnav or Khushi married to someone else and meet afterwards...separate from their respective spouses and unite with each other...not for me.I am a regressive auntie who believes in the sanctity of marraige.
There,I got it off my chest...maafi,if I have hurt anybody's sentiment.I am just a hardcore fan of Arnav and Khushi and love reading the various angles/views to their story.😊
