Zubeen Garg’s death case: Singapore police says 'The SPF does not suspect foul play'

Following the death of Zubeen Garg, the Singapore police have released a statement regarding the ongoing investigation. Based on preliminary findings, they have found no evidence of foul play. The police also addressed the spread of "speculations" and "false information" on social media concerning the singer's death, urging the public to refrain from sharing unverified details.

What exactly the statement reads

"The case is currently being investigated by the SPF, in accordance with Singapore's Coroners Act 2010. Based on preliminary investigations, the SPF does not suspect foul play. Upon completion of the SPF's investigations, which may take up to another three months or so, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore, who will then determine whether to hold a Coroner's Inquiry ("CI"). A Cl is a fact-finding process led by a Coroner, who is a Judicial Officer of the Courts, to establish the cause and circumstances of death. Its findings will be made public upon conclusion," the statement read.

"Despite the fact that SPF is still in the midst of its investigations, on 1 October 2025, it extended a copy of the autopsy report of the late Mr Garg, and SPF's preliminary findings, to the High Commission of India upon their request," it added.

"The SPF is committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the case, and this takes time. We seek the patience and understanding of the parties involved. Meanwhile, we urge the public not to speculate and spread unverified information," Singapore Police concluded.

About Zubeen’s death and case

On September 19, Zubeen Garg tragically passed away. The singer was rescued from the sea by the Singapore police and promptly transported to a nearby hospital. He was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where medical professionals provided critical care and monitored his condition closely. Despite their best efforts, the singer succumbed to his injuries. Garg had traveled to Singapore to perform at the North East Festival, with a performance scheduled for the day of the incident.

  • The Assam CID's Special Investigation Team (SIT) is currently investigating the death of Zubeen Garg. As part of their inquiries, they have questioned several individuals connected to the case. The five individuals accused, including the main event organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, Zubeen Garg's Manager Siddharth Sharma, his cousin Sandipan Garg (a suspended APS officer), and two PSOs Nandeswar Bora, were remanded to judicial custody and are currently held in Baksa jail. The investigation continues as authorities gather information and evidence.
