Welcome back :)

d. Incomplete stories are the most painful things ever... Its like reminding me of how IPK ended abruptly... without giving me a closure... So I would never read any of that authors other stories... and go through the same incomplete feeling... Not worth my time!!

Only so many non-closures can a heart take 😭

f. It will always be Arhi! Bas!

Aur kuch padhna hoga toh I have lots of books on my bookshelf to be read...

And those books rarely come off their shelves 😛

l. Kyonki har ek friend zaroori hota hai... I agree to this point... where over the top ganging up is absolutely ridiculous... But at the end, you will tend to have a few good friends on IF who would want to be the first ones to res on your story... or they think that they have a right to use their friends story thread to chat for a while... ab iska kya kar sakte hain as long as the writer does not ignore the rest of the readers and welcomes them equally in the conversations...

This is the main point - as long as someone doesn't feel ignored!

Its not a battle with scope for dislikes and feeling offended...

Well said :)
It is our sapno ki duniya... so lets just relish and relive our Arhi in these stories... 😃

Thank you for speaking in such great detail about each point and adding yours too :)

Oh yes, I forgot to mention this!

Writers don't press like button at all sometimes and give a collective acknowledgement in their next chapters for all the comments... I am okay when this is done...

But some writers don't like the ''uncomfortable'' comments of the readers... they leave out ''liking'' the specific comments and only ''like'' the rest.

I for one go back to my comments and see if the writer has liked it...

Somehow I feel that the writers should take both the criticism and praises in a balanced way... Both are sides of the same coin which can never be separated.

Well...for me there are only few things which put me off a story ...
1. If there are too many mistakes in the language then I find it difficult to get involved in the story. That does not mean that one has to use very difficult words etc...
2. Formatting ... The way author has used the font, size, colour ..differentiating the ideas or thoughts properly ...somehow all caps or white on black font makes it difficult for me to want to read
3. Continuity ... Of course the most common factor as stories being updated after a very long duration
4. Blogs ... Do read on the blogs only find it difficult to comment there

Earlier I used to be a silent reader hence now that I try and comment I never go back and check if the author has liked it or not and incase I have anything specific to convey I prefer to pm :)

I logged in after a long time and saw this post and i wanted to drop in my two cents.

a. Updating Regularity:
Well I know there are authors who just disappear but that might not always be intentional. IF tends to give a one a false sense of accomplishment. If the writer wakes up to reality and realizes that they have a life then its not wrong and if the reader feels strongly against the writer for discontinuing, then it is a sign that that READER should get a life.

b. Format:
No one is paid for writing. people write, despite of not having a command over their language because of their love for the show. It doesnt give anyone the right to point out that their work is a major turn off. Writing is their prerogative just as reading it is urs

c. Hypocrisy: As long as the reader doesnt ask for pms for a story, they can follow it without even liking it. Just because u buddy a writer so u can read her story doesnt mean she should read urs too. She has every right to demand response from people she takes the troube to pm

d. Once bitten twice shy: *points to A*

e. Bias:
If the story is good and has a soul then the defination of BIAS will change to ' i read this story but dont comment or like because i'd kill myself before apprecating my enemy.

f. A non-ArHi story: Why would someone write a non arhi story on ipk forum??

g. Blogs:
Fair enough

h. Illogical: Not the brightest crayon in the box right now.. i dont know whay u r implyin

i. Rude: You are right, this has nothing gotta do with the story but with the behavior of the writer and isnt moralpolicing against forum rules.

j. Plagiarism: agreed completely

k. Acknowledgement from the author: Fair enough

l: The Author's Bias: Are we still on the same page..?? What has a writer having a good time got to do with the story they write. If you expect them to acnowledge you everytime just because you have graced their thread with your comment then here is a pointer for you- get over yourself.

m: Complicated sentence construction:
Use of metaphors shows how good the writer is and as far as the language is concerned- listen yo urself. You have a problem with writers who dont have a proper sentence construction and you have a problem with someone who does.

I dont have anything against you but i replied to this because this is no contest. people have a life. Everyone cannot be a shakespeare but it doesnt give any right for anyone to point out publicly the dos and the donts because everyone might have their own reasons for doing all the things mentioned here.

I agree with a lot of points here.

Specially points such as the writers getting busy with their lives or just plain tired or non interested and honestly that's their prerogative and perhaps readers should be more understanding of the possibilities, specially when we arent aware of tthe details of each other's lives.

About formats, to each his own, I guess.

About blogs, honestly I have given up trying to explain this point to a bunch of readers who will not comment on the update because of whatever reason but all hell breaks lose if a writer asks for some feedback. Also tired of explaining the plagiarism pov here and the fact that it's more of a step to wake up IF than anything else but I guess some readers and some writers want to see it for something else and no alternate view can make them even think of an alternate.

About bias, I link it to the clique system where if your friends say something, you will blindly follow it (you being a general term here lest a MU follows) without so much as giving the other person and your own grey matter a chance.

And honestly where the reader doesnt like the writer asking for comments or likes, the same readers hankering after likes on their comments sounds a bit hypocritical to me.

Regarding spacing, sometimes IF messes up with the format

Actually this was in a story I started reading on a blog, but I just could not read beyond first chapter. Then I read another story on the same blog, and same thing.

I think the author never bothered to proofread. I mean they don't always have time, so that happening sometimes is ok. But if they want more readers they need to consider that.

I may sound childish, but I want to be the first commentor or on the main page of the update of a story that I really love. I remember requesting two authors (though we are not friends) to let me have the first res and they let me. Mostly I don't have them PM me as my stalking skills are pretty good 😉 I do that too, if someone tells me that we never get a chance to be on the update page, I usually drop them a scrap stating the time of the update (no matter they are my friend or not). Its a different matter that I always end up being an hour or two late than the time I had mentioned And obviously my friends will know that I am going to update so they already stalk. But I always change my status before updating telling everyone when the update will be posted. But if this puts off some readers, I wouldn't mind rectifying that by not giving my update schedule at all (not that I have a schedule anyways)

Well, my reason to be able to post after an update is slightly different. That or other posts on the same page as the update has the probability of being read by more readers. So if there is anything worth for others to read, I definitely wants to use that opportunity. Not that I have much to say to others too often. 😉 But this could be the case with other readers too.

Thank you for your honest response :)

😳.
All I can say is when it comes to your SS/FF, the readers should get a fair chance solely based on how they are as "readers". There could be someone who is bigger stalker/ admirer/ critique of one's work than their friends. I definitely am not a good stalker as I mostly end up reading the updates during my lunch break at work 😆
