NON ARSHI FFS...
DARK FFS ( they scared me)...
ON HOLD FFS...(I can and I do wait for 2/3 months but more than that just kill my interest)
TOO LONG STORIES like over 50/60 chapters
but more than anything the story has to attract me...I read only those I find interesting
p.s : also if it's fully written in hindi...few lines are ok..otherwise I can't read it properly

Mainly I dont identify with -

a. I lose the flow and then it gets difficult to get back to the story.Adding to it, if it's a story I absolutely love I may forget details but remember the basic...so will re read the last chapter and continue.

b. Cannot bear to read the sms language, dont understand it and dont like it both. I need it to be written well. I lose interest otherwise. I like a mix, some dialogues are required as then the narrative sometimes get too boring!

Too much hindi dialogues are also difficult for me to read and appreciate I need translations!

c.Does not apply to me

d.Yes, not matter what the author says, once they have left a story incomplete, difficult for me to start another story by that author!

e. I am guilty of that too! That makes me human too!

f.Non Arhi is a no no for me too

g.As long as I dont have to comment on the blog I am okay with it too, too need an IF page.

h. Yes yes...I agree... The story has to all fit in, you know how I love that, when everything comes together.

i. yes putting off, but I have still read some of those! Hate the threat and demand for more comments, likes or else no update!

j I too will not. It is cheating and I don't like to be cheated!

k. very important for me now earlier it did not matter, but now I feel I have taken the trouble to comment regularly and would hence like some acknowledgement from the writer or will read a writer who appreciates and values me as a reader.

l. I have just stopped commenting on two authors for exactly the same reason!

m. I hate big words just intending to impress when they really dont fit in,the same with metaphors and symbolism...if not used in the correct place they are an obvious attempt at trying to show off. Sometimes some words which are big words will go well and with the flow of a certain type of story and on another type it looks misplaced.
Effect writing also happens with simple words if used correctly. I tend not to want to read such writers as I feel they are full of themselves!

Sometimes I see the story line changing to suit the readers, be it with more mature scenes or with the track changing thereby changing the characters from what were first written which to me make no sense...to make a story more popular or well liked I dont agree with that!

nice post Zehra...I am glad u make it...
Well its not even 7 months I read stories in this site...so may b I am not in place to say a story is good or bad...but I cant just read a story to which I cant connect...that I cant visualize whats happening...and which I dont feel real...
I prefer to read those stories updated regularly...but if I love a story very much, then i hold onto it even not updated for a long time...otherwise I just left it...
I did some mistakia by starting some on-hold stories without noticing, which taught me not to start any story before knowing if its ongoing or discontinued...
I am one of those reader who go back to own comment to see if the writer responded or not...so if I see there's no response(like from the writer) automatically i dont feel like making long comment in next update...
I cant read a story, where Arnav is rude...hurting Khushi over and over again, without any regret...and Khushi suffering only...then forgiving him just like that...Its harmful for my peace of mind...
I skip those stories where Arnav is shown sleeping around with girls...I cant see him like this...
Lastly,I cant read a story written in small fonts...its my fault, with the power of my glasses and with the tiny font sized writings in my books I have to read daily, its just not possible for me to read small sized writings any more when I am supposed to relax...

Okay I have no idea which story you are talking about.
For me the first and foremost reason for reading a story is - Arhi. It has to be ArHi.
I joined IF around mid of last year, had no idea about something called fan-fics. Got to know about it only through twitter. (And I'll be grateful to them forever for this).
I really don't understand half of IF working even now. I started reading the stories which I got link of through twitter.
I don't know how some people find new Arhi FF's here. 😕

I have left reading few stories mid-way and the main reason is I lose interest, can't feel connected to it. And then if its combined with irregular updates - I'm totally lost.
I can't read someone's story if he/she is rude. and plagiarized never.
Incomplete or on-hold stories are a big no. The first ever FF i read here is still incomplete and the writer doesn't even respond to PMs or scarps if she is going to complete it ever.

Sometimes it happens, mostly because I am still kind of new and don't understand IF much, that I start a story when it's in a very advanced stage like more than 25-30 chapters, so I bookmark it keeping it for the time when I have enough time on my hand because for me both reading and commenting needs peace and time. In such cases my pace is really slow and it takes me months sometimes to get to the latest one. There are still stories like these and I feel so guilty of not reading them.

Another reason is that sometimes when a story starts it seems to be simple & light-hearted but then it turns into something very dark or abusive. Dark is not everyone's forte and I have to say there is so much crap on the name of this genre here.

If writers doesn't send PMs (here or mail) I get no idea when it's updated.

Lately I have been busy so it takes me time these days to check the updates. I really can't read it without sharing my thoughts with the writer. This just not feels so right.

I do agree with most of your points :)

Grammatical errors, lack of punctuatitions, sms language(can't decipher it at all) are some of the frequent reasons I don't read a story. In other cases, they are plain uninteresting.

As u said people always discuss about why they like the story but never mentions anything for their dislike. I am glad that u have prepared a post where u give a platform for the readers to express their reservations.

I agree with most of your reasons since i have also had almost the same thoughts and feelings for my dislikes.

I understand that asli duniya does not always support the writer and people have their own personal life and work. But atleast they should have the courtesy to prepare a note and inform the readers about it . I am also a human with limited memory and i can remember things only for some period of time. So if a writer fails to update for a longer time , i also tend to forget the plot. I believe people here are either working or studying and this forum helps them to relax and spend their limited free time. So no one has the patience and the time to go through the previous updates to get on track.

Formatting - Yes it helps in making the stories reader friendly but i have not made a fuss if there is not an index only when the story enthralls me so much or i feel the writer is new on IF . I am also new to this forum and i tam also unaware of various rules and stuff , so i think this can be compromised. The story should also be grammatically correct and enable the readers to understand the plot. Communication is very important for the success of a story.

Hypocrisy - Yes i have seen various threads where the writers demand for 'n" number of likes and "x" pages of comments if we want the next update. I understand that they have also invested their time and effort in writing it and long for recognition. But i think this is not the way to recognise their talent. Nothing can be achieved through such tricks and even if they get so many likes and comments , i dont think that gives them the satisfaction and happiness.

Yes i have also not read any stories if i find that the writer has many incomplete stories in their list. Now a days i am reading only completed stories and following only limited on going ones where i feel the writer does justice to each update and promises more fun and thrill in the coming ones. But i have book marked many on going ones with the hope of reading them in the future when it gets completed. This is also due to another reason where i feel if i read too many stories on a similar genre , i find it difficult to remember the plot and gets confused with the other stories.

I joined this forum only for IPKKND even after its closure as these stories portrayed ARHI so well that i fell in love with them again. So i too cannot read a non Arhi story as i am not able to connect with the characters. I know i am missing many beautiful stories because of it but still i am ready for it .

Blogs - My Arhi journey started with blogs only and i wasnt very vocal at that time. I read the stories and just moved on to the next one. But now i feel that i could have said atleast one word about the story which helped me to kill my idle time and brought a smile to my face . So right now i am not following much blogs and for the ones i follow i try to comment atleast once in a while. What i find difficult is that u should have a wordpress, google plus or gmail for u to comment in it. I know they are doing it for security purposes but many people like me will not be comfortable in sharing the personal details. So it becomes difficult to comment as well. Not many blogs offer this "Anonymous " mode where u dont need to disclose any details.

With regard to logic I have found many stories where Arnav begs Khushi , Khushi forgives him just like that (as portrayed in the show) even after so many humiliations and insults without his redemption. He even abuses her and brutally handles her but still she forgives him just like that. I understand this is fiction but i feel there should be atleast an ounce of reality in it. Nobody would forget their pains so easily and everything has a timeline.

I havent actually checked whether the writers acknowledge my posts but i really feel happy when they scrap and tell me how they felt about my comment. But i do scrap some authors after i write a comment because i know they will get back to me . Simple acknowledgement leads to good relationships which in turn may be a strong foundation for the virtual friendship!!!

Two more reasons apart from the ones u have mentioned :

a) I understand that mature content also adds a zing to the story when it is written at the proper time and in a subtle way. I too have read many passionate stories about Arhi where the writer narrates it in a beautiful way where u dont feel awkward or disgusting while reading it. On the other hand i have also seen many threads where the writer feels that they can attract more readers and get more likes and comments only when they write too much about the make out sessions , sex and stuff. This makes no difference between a movie where there is only skin show with no logic and a proper storyline and provides 3 hours of torture and crosses "100 crore mark" . I seriously think there are other ways to make the story enjoyable and engaging and hook the readers to the story.

b) I dont think the readers should always praise the writers. If i feel the story a little bit out of the line or slow paced or was not enjoyable for me , i should have the liberty to say it. Criticism alone helps both the writers and readers for shaping a good story and it should be taken in a positive way than making a fuss about it.

*Phew* A long essay indeed 😆 Zehra i dunno why u always make me write so much !!!!!!😳

It's been very long time since I stopped reading stories in IF. now I am back trying to find some completed SS, of my favorite writers (especislly u) become more impatient can't wait for every update :) Nowadays I prefer more of OS. Read so many FFs before so I don't find anything new in new FFs 😕

Avoiding dark FFs nowadays. Prefer something short and sweet 😊
