I agree the TV audience is heterogeneous hence some thing clicks and something does not...but a show runs for long because it has a dedicated viewership that it had drawn in initially. One of the reason why IPK ran even when it kept slipping in trp charts... because it's USP was to attract a genre of viewers in a nascent market called overseas... it has achieved the purpose to make inroads into homes for people to sample their other/future offerings...
IPK has served it's purpose which logically ends with the completion of the UK gala...if it continues beyond the few days in December it will be because the channel has seen some thing else it can achieve... which at the moment we are not privy too...
Bollywood was never in the scheme of things as a tangible path to alter IPK's direction... so I did not mention it...and I disagree with your statement that BW doesnot need TV.. the television and movie fraternity know the reach of the idiot box .. it is not a poor cousin to be seen wth contempt anymore... it is an important mouth piece for bollywood to make the viewers aware of their offering and for the channels to have bollywood celebrities in their programmes to get more eyeball for the episode and sell it more to it's advertisers.. it s a win win situation...
Heterogenous indeed and I completely agree TI that, INFACT there are no expiry dated with shows but with love stories it needs mire creative efforts.
As for the BW thing u got me wrong, I was talking from an actor's POV...whatever u have written well true n applies but not SI well here.
For instance, say if I have to launch myself in BW, I need to taro ally detach myself from TV for a while...then whether I return or not even for promotion is a different ball game altogether. I hope u get the point...
The contempt part also plays for industry insiders , people will always say...oh u r from TV...
love stories does need more work to keep the novelty up...but IPK changed directions to a family love story few months back.. subtly then.. the pace now has increased for it as the male protagonist gets ready to leave...
I did include the actors to in the bollywood fraternity😳.. BW is a place where connections matter to get into the right place...it is a tough fight with a fresh face and a tv face which already typecasts u strongly in the viewers mind...and today's actors are smart enough to know that...and they will be there for the promotion of their films...they are bound to it..and a newcomer into the scene cannot act pricey.. he will do whatever his employers demand .. that goes for IPK actors too..
