I think by rishta wahi soch nayi, they were reffering to the fact that Khushi is in fact not your average good girl

I mean, look at it this way. Her name isn't Ganga and she cannot sing in the Asha Bhonsle voice. For a production house whose soch nayi thought process goes at the speed of zero point five milimetre per year, this is an achievement. Clapping karo everybody.

A woman clad in a white chooridar kurta is obviously sexually naive, and will cry about having bouts of acidity and dhak dhak. Liberal minded indeed.

PS- I am hoping this makes sense😆

since you brought up cocktail.. what was the ultimate bullshit was Gautam assumes, his mother wont like Veronica as she is in typical sense "modern" and instead says Meera is his girlfriend who is your typical desi chick who prays in the morning, doesnt drink and wears salwars.

Now there is nothing WRONG in being any or all of the above. But this is what Imitiaz Ali--> a mainstream bollywood filmmaker thinks of indian women and stereotypes them as such for a) revenue b) revenue c) critical acclaim.

My point is: when films are made like this, TV will follow suit, as such movies become HITs, it gives a chance to TV producers to rape this, as there is an ready made audience for it!

Honestly, guys watch Cocktail, for a nice sum up of all thats wrong with the society and what they subsequently show in soaps. Oh! and for Deepika's performance.

Cock worshipping syndrome?? Really??? Wowowow!! Lol!! What an amazing name! Describes the whole disease in a perfect way!!

Who is this Maha person, please tell me!

I think its the opposite actually. TV soaps were doing it already, and Imtiaz ali just needed to make a quick buck. Hence, cocktail.
oh btw- HEY TVIN! :D

It's so refreshing to read this discussion on the forum - thanks Munchy.
Similar points of view to mine have been intelligently articulated already in the previous posts. I will say that it is incredibly disappointing that a production house headed or in some way controlled by a woman chooses to portray a stereotype of a "modern" woman. The fact of the matter is the personality traits portrayed by Lavanya and Khushi don't have to be mutually exclusive. It is a disservice to women everywhere to assume that being "modern" automatically defines the type of clothing that woman wears, whether or not she believes in marriage, children, whether she is religious or not. There was great scope/possibility to portray Lavanya as an example of a professional successful woman not tied to age-old conventions without resorting to imposing a negative connotation on her choices - the production chose the traditional stereotypical route, perhaps because it did not have sufficient knowledge/ability or because it decided to kowtow for the sake of trps. Is it too much to ask that production houses actually formulate a character on the numerous examples of women who are leading successful professional and personal lives in real life? I guess so.

Very Interesting...esp cos i have yet to watch COcktail...
looks like a clear cut dicotomy was made...so V likes sex and booze and G went out with her but took M home to mummy...(I wonder who V was having Sex with...G may be...so what does that make him)...I love the name and the religeous connotations too.
Saying that I have to put in this is not a complex that occupies only Indian society...but all societies...a virgin on the arm and a s**t in bed...
Also the part of no attention from parents...made V randy...well it aint all bullshit...cos it happens...negligence is negligence whatever form it takes and the human psyche craves to be loved...craves for the attention...

Sorry to intrude in the conversation , but I wanted to say that this is the sole reason I did not want to watch Cocktail. When I saw the trailer and came to know that the movie is by imtiaz Ali, I was sure that atleast in this film, the main lead will be the character played by Deepika. I was not aware that even IA had bowed down to meet the so called 'Public Demand' and achieve commercial success. I have no problem with thepositiveportrayal of the goody 2 shoes girls, but I object this being done at the cost of all the other girls who are different !
